The hotel itself is okay (free wifi, free breakfast, pretty clean room considering the building is old) and the staff are very friendly but the location SUCKS. If you're staying for a short time in Rome, you will hate yourself for staying here. I am an American student and me and my friend (we're 2 college-aged girls btw) were in Rome for 3 days, and our commute to the actual city and sites took us about an hour each day- shuttle, bus, metro, all the works, and the hotel shuttle and bus are very unreliable. They say they'll come at a certain time and never will. The location is also what I call the "Detroit of Rome"- the minute I arrived to the hotel, I was welcomed by a group of legit prostitutes on the side of the road. Do yourself a favor and don't stay here. You can find a better location and it'll be worth the price if you can get to the city quicker.

Room Tip: Remember that in Rome they charge you a City tax in cash- 2 euros per person per night. Sneak in fri...

Dear Guest,

thank You for Your review.

Thanks for your words about everything that concerns our Hotel, the breakfast, the cleaning, the helpful Staff.

This is really important for us.

The quality of the food, the cleaning of the rooms, a warm welcome of the staff is that in which we invest more.

The location is in an industrial part of Rome, obviously there is a little bit of traffic during the morning, but in the afternoon and in the evening is really quiet.

it is possible that on the Salaria street there are prostitutes, but like in the most important streets of the most important cities, and absolutely not close to our Hotel.

Moreover the building is separated from the street by our internal parking.

I thank You again for give me the chance to clarify some point, and I hope to see You again in the future.

Best Regards,

Corrado Curcio

If you're planning a citytrip to Rome, this is not the best hotel you can choose. The hotel is not bad. Clean room, friendly staff and the beds are ok. But it is not located neir the centre. We had to take a bus, a metro and again a metro to get to the centre. It took us about an hour. The hotel is located neir the highway. So if you have to get on the highway early in the morning then the location is great.

Dear Guest,

Thank You for Your review.

Many thanks for Your words about the cleanliness of the rooms and the friendliness of the Staff.

We would like just to clarify that if it takes one hour for You to reach the city center, maybe there was a special event, or You were unlucky with the bus/metro connection.

You often need less than one hour to reach the center.

Thank You again for Your stay at Romulus Hotel.

Best Regards,

I'm actually still here.. Sat at breakfast writing this! Ok the hotel itself has no great issues... 3* is probably right. Yeah there are things wrong but only the picky would complain... I'm not btw. The only real issue I have is it's quite remote from anything really.. Nothing in walking distance, it's all by bus to get anywhere, yesterday it rained all day not just a shower either a full on cloudburst for the whole day!! So walking wasn't an option. Traffic is horrendous and thus impacts bus travel, not to mention overcrowding on the metro!!! What I'm trying to say is the hotel is fine but if you want to go into the city on a daily basis get somewhere a little closer!!

P.S. the staff are super helpful too!

This hotel is very poor. The rooms are very destroy, looks much much worse than on the pictures, the breakfast is terrible, nothing to eat, terrible coffee. The worst is that they are cheeting – the free internet is depending on with who I spoke on the reception. On the morning they told me to pay 5 euro for 24h internet code (free only for 1 h) but on the late evening/night the receptionist gave me internet code for free for 24 hour’s. Don’t believe in this pictures http://www.hotelromulus.com/eng/gallery.htm ! If you find a garden around hotel you are lucky:)
I do not recommend this hotel.
p.s. location of the hotel is outside the city but with the public bus it takes 25 minutes to get to Metro station so it is not a problem.

Hotel Romulus is cheap, cheerful and has a more than decent breakfast with great coffee. And I am quite amazed/angered by the negative reviews I have read!
Why anyone in the 21st century would be surprised by a) the location of a hotel that they have booked (ever heard of google maps? Take responsibility for your own travels!), and b) prostitution and traffic congestion on the main roads out of Rome (again, research the city and country you are going to, idiots!) I cannot begin to understand.
I stayed three nights and paid a very small price. I was in a group of three male friends and although there were prostitutes around (a decent distance from the hotel, but visible,) they attempted no communication with us as we showed no interest in them. Even when returning at 3-4am we never felt uncomfortable and enjoyed visiting the exceptionally tasty burger stall (with about 50 toppings on offer!) 1-200 yards from the hotel which seemed to be an 'all-nighter'.
Romulus does not profess to be the Dorchester and makes no untrue claims re. location or anything else.
For all the people who who complained about the long bus journey and stated that this was the 'only way into Rome and full of gypsies', again the briefest research would let you know that a 15-20 minute walk through mainly residential streets (and past at least two delicious cafe/bars) gets you to Fidene metro station - no traffic queues and a frequent service. And the hotel does offer a free shuttle there if you're too lazy to walk!
All in all, I think the value was good and I am going again next Easter.
For all you nay-sayers - if you expect a high class, central hotel, pay for one! And do some research instead being passive idiots who make it sound like you were forced to stay there against your will!!

My group of six stayed at Hotel Romulous after a late arrival into Rome, which was conveniently located on the ring road allowing us an easy departure the next morning.

The rooms were clean, larger than I expected, and air conditioned. The bathroom was a little tight, and it should be noted that the early bird gets the hot water.

All in my party slept comfortably, and were quite happy with the continental breakfast provided to us the next morning.

While the hotel could use a refresh and the elevator did not work the following morning, we found it comfortable for our one night stay and would recommend it to all looking for reasonably priced accommodations on the way out of town.
