“Wonderful mosaics”
5 of 5 bubbles Reviewed January 25, 2013

Though much of this church is baroque - and nothing wrong with that - our reason for visiting it was to see the 9th century mosaics of the apse and triumphal arch, and the little chapel of St Zeno whose walls and ceiling are completely covered with mosaics. The church has a stately feel and you can imagine yourself back in the time when Roman citizens of some status would be coming here to worship.

“A hidden gem”

Behind the unprepossessing facade, a block from Santa Maria Maggiore, awaits a surprise: stunning gold mosaics, over a thousand years old. Free and worth iy!

“Off the main route but worth finding”
5 of 5 bubbles Reviewed January 19, 2013

A small gem of a Basilicca 2 minutes from Santa Maria Maggiore in a small back street. Not so grandiose as the major churches but wonderful artwork and incredible mosaics. I rather enjoyed it's quiet non touristy ancient and very atmospheric feel as a contrast to the other larger and better known Basilicas and think it is well worth searching out.
