It is walking distance from the Hotel Cecil. Check the hours because it closes for lunch and siesta:) No entrance fee, if you want to see the Santa Theresa statue illuminated you have to drop a coin in a box at the left of the chapel that lights it up for a little while. We had to wait on the church steps for a while and decided to walk around and found ourselves at the Diocletian Baths, now a church, very nice too.

Go right away to the Cornaro chapel and let your jaw drop with the perfection of one of Bernini's most famous sculptures: the Stasi of St Teresa, a masterpiece that changed a lot of things in art history. It's sensuality is almost heretic, and experiencing this feeling inside of a church, imagining how the statue shocked so may people more than 300 years ago, is certainly very exciting!

Our Lady of Victory or santa Maria delle Vittoria is a 17th century church dedicated initially to St Paul then later to Virgin Mary. Its claim to fame is of course the sculpture Ecstasy of St Teresa by Bernini to the left of the altar in the Conaro Chapel. It is indeed a masterpiece. Supposedly it portrays a momemnt when St Teresa had a vision of an angel on the left piercing her heart with a spear, causing both immense pain and joy. The contorted posture exceeded period restraint to enliven a passionate and voluptuous trance. Worth a walk over to see it.

I knew when I went to Rome I had to see Santa Maria della Vittoria as it houses my favorite Bernini sculpture 'The Ecstasy of Saint Teresa'. I had trouble finding it because it is really small and unassuming. From all outward appearances there is nothing seemingly special about this church. You could be looking for it and walk past it several times and never know it is Santa Maria della Vittoria. But the interior will leave you breathless. The vault has an amazing painting that you can't help but to stare at for several minutes. This is a perfect church to visit if you love Baroque Art. Bernini's Ecstasy of Saint Teresa is absolutely gorgeous and is very easy to get lost in while viewing the sculpture. Very small church but absolutely worth a visit. I went back on my last day just to see the church again. There is a small shop off to the right from the altar at the front of the church that is easy to miss. Great little shop to buy postcards and prints of the artwork in the church! Don't miss this church on a trip to Rome. It will blow your mind!
