This church is fascinating for two reasons, firstly it was built on the ruins of Diocletian's Roman Baths; secondly it was designed by Michelangelo. Although the church is huge, it only occupies the central hall of the Roman Baths (the frigidarium - cold plunge room). This is the only place in the city that provides such a clear idea of just how vast were public baths in ancient Rome. As well as the thought provoking contrast between the ancient and medieval buildings, the church is a delight in its style, architecture and decoration.

Be surprised by what lies behind the exterior and come inside to this treasure of history, art, astronomy, science and humanity. You will be happy to spend time within these remarkable walls of time.

Outside this basilica does not look very special but inside it is interesting. You can find there some art, pendulums and other science stuff and after all it is church.
