Owner description: Spectacular church full of breathtaking statues and paintings. Located near the Termini station in Rome, this church is guaranteed to leave you gasping in admiration.

We saw this basilica from the tour bus, and hopped off to investigate. We were not disappointed. It was beautiful inside and fascinating in that Michelangelo designed it when he was in his 80s. There is a path on the floor that traces the movement of the earth through the zodiac. As other reviewers have said, this is an amazing structure, and although they hardly mention it on the hop on hop off bus tour, it is well worth seeing.

You can tell it's huge but it looks worn down and frankly very plain from the outside. When you step inside - WOW! Absolutely huge - and the floor would be 15 feet lower when it was a bath. Thanks Rick Steves for this gem near the Termini. Absolutely awe inspiring. Make sure you see the historical information through the door to the left - there is a light box that you can pay to get light in there - very interesting. Make sure you look from the front of the church to the piazza as most of it was part of the bath originally.

The entrance to this church looks like something related to the Ancient Rome, rather than to the height of Catholicism, so you will never guess the splendor that awaits you inside. The sheer size of the church will be a shock, and it boasts magnificent paintings, sculptures and other religious attributes.

I came across Santa Maria degli Angeli by accident, I was passing from that area and found it, the church is located beside Termini Station.

Entrance is free, and the church has many beautiful paintings, and statues including The Head of John the Baptist Polish-born sculptor Igor Mitoraj, which I fell in love with.

It was amazing to discover this beautiful church especially if that was not planned.

Seeveral times passed by, as the facade does not look very interesting and I had no time for visiting the neighbouring Diocletian Baths. The Church is construed actually in part of the Bath's complex. Be not misleaded by the simplicity of the entrance - just have a look inside. You will not regret any minute spent there.
