“Quaint respite”
Reviewed June 28, 2014

Interesting and unique place in Rome. Well worth the stroll across the bridge to look around the island for a few minutes if you're in the area, but nothing exciting to go out of the way for. Interesting that there is a hospital located on the island. A couple of shops and not much else, but fun to look around and watch the river roll past.

“worth a visit”
Reviewed June 22, 2014

well worth a stroll over to the island, as you enter from pontio fabricio stop off in the square to the bar/tables on your left, nice place to sit and enjoy a drink and watch the world go by, friendly waitress and reasonable prices, plus a few specialty beers on offer.

“In the middle of Rome, an island of quite”
Reviewed June 9, 2014

A lovely walk along the Tiber, particularly on the Trastavere side, will bring you to the Isola Tiberina. We were there on a beautiful Saturday afternoon, and while there were a number of people there, not that many actually walked around the small island and enjoyed the views of the city and the river.

“Aesculapius in Rome”
Reviewed June 6, 2014

This tiny island in the middle of Rome can be covered by foot in ten minutes; that ten minutes covers two millennia of Roman history. Start by crossing the Ponte Cestio (the first bridge to link the island to the mainland) and find the carving of Aesculapius and his serpents. The sick of Rome have been coming here since ancient times; wealthy roman matrons still give birth in the medieval San Bartolomeo Hospital. The hospital buildings cover most of the island, along with the remains of a gothic church and an ancient mill, used for grinding flour.
The Isola Tiberina remains a delightful place to simply sit and relax, when hectic ice of being a tourist proves overwhelming.

“It's part of history, but there's not much to do here”
Reviewed April 14, 2014

We walked down to this bridge/island on our last day in Rome, because my husband wanted to see it due to it's age. I wouldn't go out of my way to go here, but it was a pretty little spot on the river with interesting views of the city. History at its finest.
