Owner description: The Markets of Trajan are an archaeological complex of uniqueness in Rome, perhaps even worldwide. They represent an area that has experienced the evolution of the city from the imperial age to today; an area that has been constantly recycled and transformed. The markets once the strategic administrative centre of the Imperial Forums, successively became a noble residence, a military fortress, a prestigious convent and a barracks... a continuous evolution.

We walked along the Forum streets and the history was oozing out of every pore. Must stop at the place where Julius Caesar was buried/cremated as well as the Curia - the only building you can go into and fully functional - still!

History fans can't miss this place. The statues are impressive. Great gardens and small water fountains around the place.

While there is't a lot of detail left of the Imperial Romans and we can't go in the imperial palace just to the east, it was a interestig place to see and gave us a sense of how the landscape of Rome had changed over the centuries. There was an active archiological dig going on while we were there, which was quite interesting, it was like watching people trying to put together a very large puzzle without knowing what it was suppose to look like in the end. Fascinating.

Well worth a visit, especially if you have even a passing interest in history. Would recommend getting a guided tour as there is minimal signage and without a tour it's hard to know what is what.

The imperial forum is at the center of some epic events in european and world history so it must be worth a visit.

We had a tour that included commentary on this area. Even if you can't afford a tour you should still visit and walk around on both sides. It is amazing what is left after all these years. Watch out for the gypsies.
