The church is located right next to Vittorio Emanule Monument. We walked into the church by accident but it was such a gem. The church is not big, but very old and full of beautiful decorations and details. There's something about the church that impresses me so much. It is not huge, nor glamorous like more famous churches, but utterly charming and peaceful.

A hidden gem with great views outside. The inside was intricate and not busy. Untouched and very peaceful except for the beggar standing right in the doorway pretending he was raising money for the church. Very beautiful inside.

Looking up the vast Aracoeli Staircase this truly looks to be the "altar in the sky". We walked up the adjoining less steep Cordnata Staircase and entered the church by the rear door from Palazzo Nuovo. This is a very tranquil and peaceful church, most famous for its icon of the Santo Bambino, a 15th century olive wood carving of the Christ Child (which is said to have miraculous healing powers), normally kept in the sacristy but at Christmas time is placed in the centre of the crib in the nativity chapel.
The views over Rome from the Piazza del Campidoglio are spectacular,

This church is tucked behind the Tomb of the Unknown Soldier. It has a very plain facade, which tends to make one think it is not worth visiting. Nothing could be further from the truth.

Inside it is peaceful, restful, beautiful, soothing .... the adjectives just keep flowing. Walking over the many tombs on the floor (there are so many you can not avoid them) adds to the humbleness of this place.

We have visited many churches in our month-long trip to Italy, but to me this was the best one I have been in. And yes, there are many, many chandeliers.

This church dedicated to the blessed mother is the only one in the Capitoline Hill. The impressive staircase leading up to the church, which comprises124 marble steps (the two bottom ones shorter than the rest), was designed by Lorenzo di Simone di Andreozzo in 1348, and donated to Our Lady by the people of the city as a thanksgiving for the deliverance of the city from the plague. This church is so beautiful and of a great spiritual significance. If you have any kind of mobility problem will be very difficult to climb those stairs. I suggest you visit first " Carcere Mamertina" the prison where Saint Peter and Saint Paul were incarcerated , and from there you can enter the church by its back side avoiding the huge staircase. Impressive beautiful church, memorable spiritual experience.
