Visiting the tomb and the gate was open to slip into the church. By far the most detailed and beautiful I have seen!! Don't miss this one.

Santa Maria d’Aracoeli is between the Monument to Vittorio Emmanuel II on one side and the Roman Forum on the other. There are a seemingly endless number of steps (“only” 124) from street-level to the church. The tortuous climb was well worth it, however, because the church was so incredibly beautiful. Magnificent marbles, frescoes, and paintings were everywhere. It was gorgeous.

This Church houses one of the most venerated objects in Rome during Christmas- The Santa Bambino! Yes, this small staue of the baby Jesus has his own chapel and during the midnight mass he is unveiled! After mass the Bishop them take the holy child and lays him in the prespio. Wonderful. This year, they had the Roman Capitol Police Chior singing the mass, and they were amazing. Go to St. Peters square at 10 to watch the Pope, then get over to this church by about 11:15 if you want a good seat. The Bambino has a long history, which I suggest you read before going here. It's easily found on the web.

The climb up the 124 steps is well worth the effort because once inside, the beauty of this magnificent church is breathtaking from the numerous side chapels to the altars. I found it a bit unsettling to be walking on the church floor that was the final resting place of many people. From the ceiling to the walls to the floor the church is clean, bright, and well maintained. An absolute must see when in Rome.

It's impossible to decribe the glory, the magnificence, the splendour of this church. Very ancient, full of history, with dozens of shining lamps pending from an impressing ceiling! Is no surprise that a lot of romans and tourists try to marry here. If you choose this option, you have to be very lucky: the church is really fully booked for a long time! Inside you can find a copy (the original being long time ago stolen by stupid [--]) of the Baby Jesus of Aracoeli, who is said to be the answer for couples not blessed by babies. But the real miracle is the magnificent view you can enjoy once you have climbed the ripid stair to the hill: the Capitol, and the big square are your reward, especially in a sunny day.
