Nonna Amelia was an extraordinary woman, and this used to be her home; a spacious second-floor Roman apartment in the Prati neighbourhood, which was lovingly converted into a 3-rooms boutique guesthouse by Amelia's three granddaughters. Old photographs, and decorative items, are part of the ambience. But all necessary modern amenities are there too.
Staying at Il Mondo de Amelia, we felt just like guests to someone's Roman home, which was exactly what we wanted. It's a world away from regular big hotels, but we loved it.
The rooms are modern but with old-world feel, very clean, bright and airy. Two out of three have private bathrooms (and small balconies). The breakfast, served in Nonna's modest but elegant living room with the old piano, was wonderful, with homemade cakes and other goodies. There was also free tea and cakes all day.
The Ottaviano metro station is a 10-minutes walk away, and there are buses to nearby Trastevere day and night. The guesthouse is also a good base for Vatican, and walking distance to the Olympic Stadium. The owners, Valeria, Stella, and Claudia, are very polite and friendly, speak great English, and are willing to help with maps, info, and any questions or needs, without being uintrusive. They were also very quick answering our e-mails.
We felt very safe, and extremely welcome. We'll definitely stay there whenever in Rome. A real gem of a place.

Room Tip: One of the rooms does not have an en-suite bathroom. Also, ask for the room with the balcony facin...

This is a place for those who want be out of big hotels, just living as a native Roman. It is located into a normal apartment complex, where you can feel the regular life in Rome! The room is very nice. Our room had a view to the street, where you can watch the beautiful sunset between buildings around. The only negative point for this beautiful room is that bathroom, even being private, is outside the room.
Staff (Valeria, Stella) are just AMAZING!!
Take a look and time at this unique place!

We stayed there for 11 nights from 27 December to 7 January, and enjoyed our stay!
Me and my spouse were in Stella room, our friend stayed in Valeria room. Both rooms pretty decorated, clean and new. Stella room is huge even for 2 people, Valeria is a bit smaller, but has balcony.
Housekeeper comes every day and she did her job very professionaly, breakfast is cozy and variable for such small place. And ladies, who own this place are very friendly and nice.
Location is very convenient, 15 minutes by walk to Vatikan and 10 minutes to metro station Ottaviano. There are also a lot of restourants around.
Next time in Rome we will stay there again, for sure!

We booked this lovely B&B because it was comparable in price to the budget hotels/hostels in central Rome, but looked much more "boutique" in style. We weren't disappointed. The hotel is three rooms in a typical Roman apartment block just north of the Vatican. We stayed in the "Valeria" room which was simply but prettily decorated, with a sofa-bed in addition to the double bed and a balcony offering views onto the street. The private bathroom is across the corridor rather than en suite, but as we rarely saw the other guests it was a minor drawback. It could also be a little noisy at night with sirens, arguments over parking and bins being emptied - however I suspect this is part of Roman life and certainly not peculiar to this hotel!

A good range was provided at breakfast and the lovely hosts went out of their way to make eggs and toast for us as they knew English guests were not always keen on the continental spread of meat, cheese, yoghurt and so on.

You do have to be prepared to be a bit off the beaten track. If you're arriving at Termini station you will have to take a short metro ride and walk for 10-15 minutes to find the hotel. It's very conveniently located for the Vatican and Castel Sant'Angelo, but getting to the Colosseum and Forum area is a little trickier - two rides on what can be a very busy metro system. There are some very pleasant restaurants and pizzerias nearby and you won't be hassled by the tiresome touts common in other parts of Rome.

Il Mondo di Amelia is an excellent option for a very comfortable stay at an eminently reasonable price and I'd certainly stay here again.

Lovely B&B with three rooms only, run by three young Italian cousins - they inherited the apartment from their grandmother, and have tastefully redecorated (we loved the Stella and Valeria rooms - in our opinion, Stella has the best bathroom and Valeria the best room!)

It's not located in the heart of Rome - best to take a taxi if arriving with luggage (there is a small lift once there). You may also want a local sim to communicate best with the girls (it's not a hotel with a receptionist/concierge available 24/7). But the Stella's mum makes the best breakfast cakes! And the girls offer fantastic service (Valeria even ordered a pizza delivery when it was raining and we were too tired to hit the town).

Definitely 100% recommended, and I can only count the days until I return!

Room Tip: Only 3 rooms so book early! Stella is perhaps the best, as the corridor separates the Valeria room f...

We found Il Mondo di Amelia on booking.com. The guesthouse (basically a big flat with 3 en-suite rooms and a living room) is located in Prati, a residential and commercial neighborhood away from all the unbearable chaos of central Rome. I say away but you can still reach the vatican in 10 minutes on foot. Being in Prati allows you have a genuinely Roman experience rather than get squashed in central Rome among big tour groups being shuttled from one site to another. There are no tourists whatsoever in the area, just Romans going about their daily business. Really good restaurants, cafes etc... The rooms of the guesthouse are beautiful, very tastefully decorated if not a bit too girly and princessy for guys. But everything is and smells like new from the bathtub to the espresso machine in the living room which turns into a breakfast room in the morning. Great great find.
