The hotel is located in Trastevere very close to all points of interest and good to reach either by walking or by public transport. Nearby there are many good restaurants and shops. The rooms and the bed are small but no issue when the weather is fine. The roof "bar" provides a spectacular view but unfortunately there is no bar, so you can't buy any drinks. What a shame! Breakfast is good Italian standard. We would come back!

The staff were pleasant and helpful when asked for assistance - especially with ordering us taxis. However, no one was available to take us to our room or help with the luggage on arrival/departure.
The breakfast was disappointing as it was mainly vivdly coloured cakes and biscuits and the bread and fruit options were limited. Cappuchino coffee had to be requested from the bar and was not automatically offered - suprising for Italy.
Our room was dark and we had constant problems with the lights - which had to keep being fixed by staff - when available. The room overlooked a building site and the noise was dreadful from early morining to late afternoon - this was not mentioned prior to our booking. Our bathroom was light and airy and was the best feature of the room - the shower was very good. It was cleaned every day to a good standard
Overall - I would recommend the hotel to anyone wanting to stay near Trastevere but only once the building works were finished and with the above suggestions for improvement taken into consideration..

We have stayed at the San Francesco before and love its location in Trastavere. The decor is tastefully arty and if you get a room at the back your view is over the gardens of the old monastery. There are marble floors and a feeling of airyness.
The bathrooms are spacious, the bedrooms a reasonable size and beds comfortable. There are bells that ring quite early but you are in Italy after all .
Breakfast is good although the tables are only for two which means possibly not sitting together if you are a group of four.
It is not far to the river and most of the big sites like the Forum and the Vatican are within walking distance if you are reasonably fit.We never used the trams but the No 8 is the one to look for I believe.Trastevere is so much more peaceful than the centre of Rome and there are many little restaurants and bars in the area of the hotel .
It is a bit of a nuisance getting a taxi from Termini station when you arrive on the airport bus especially if you do what we did, knowing full well not to , and took a taxi which was unlicenced because the others were having a lightening strike.
We got ripped off of course with the old trick of being told we had given a five euro note and not twenty. We stood our ground and they took off at great speed when we said we would get the hotel manager.
The San Francesco is not as cheap as when we first discovered it but is still good value.Note that there is a 2 euro a day per person tax that has to be paid in cash at check out.

Room Tip: The rooms at the back are quieter and have a good view.

It was a real pleasure to stay 2 nights in this hotel. It was comfortable, the service was great, the location was ideal (just a short distance away from the heart of Trastevere, and probably quieter as a result). The room was lovely, the bathroom was huge, lots of light, good bed, good reading lights. The breakfast was served in a sunny, pleasant room, and was excellent. I felt pampered. One warning: a nearby church rings bells at 7 and 7:15 a.m. every morning - if you plan to get up then, you don't need a wake up call. If not, you might want to try earplugs. And another note: on Via San Francesco, as you head into the middle of Trastevere, on your left (right as you enter the street) is the Ripa Caffe Bar. In the back, they serve really excellent espresso - the best we had in Rome.

We stayed here for four nights in March and had a great time albeit most of the time we were out and about. The location is excellent being very close to the tram and bus stations. The centre of trastevere is only 5 minutes away and the centre of Rome is within walking distance but we found it easier to get the tram in.

The hotel rooms are probably in need of some modernisation but you could hardly fault the place for the price we paid (average of £62 per night Mon-thurs including breakfast).

The staff are very friendly, wifi is free although you do have to get a different code every 24 hours and the breakfast was absolutely fine, albeit the coffee was not up to scratch when compared to the coffee you can get in Rome.

Great location and would stay here again as we loved the location being so close to the trastevere.

We spend a 4 days in San Francesco Hotel in Trastevere and we were very pleased.
The hotel have a very good position, close to the tram station on Viale de Trastevere and 15-20 min. by foot from all the famous attractions of Rome.
The loby is spacious , nice furnitured and the reception staff very friendly and helpful. A very pleasant and quiet music is played. The room was not very big but functional. The bathroom was big and well equipped. The breakfast room is very nice and the quality of food very good.
Certainly , San Francesco Hotel in Trastevere is a hotel to be highly recommended.

We stayed at San Francesco for four nights in February 2012 and had a brilliant holiday in Rome. The location is perfect - in the heart of Trastevere with its cobbled streets and an array of eateries and plazas. There are excellent public transport links to other areas of Rome but we decided to walk most of the time as major tourist attractions such as the Vatican and the Colosseum were only a 20-30 minute walk away.

The rooms were very clean with extremely comfortable beds. The bathroom was a decent size and although the room itself wasn't that big, it was adequate for two people. Breakfast was great with an excellent choice of breads, meats, cheeses, pastries, cakes and cereal every morning.
