“The pool - worth every cent!!”
Reviewed August 4, 2013

We had a very narrow / defined wish list for our stay in Rome, in the heat of July for our family of 2 adults / 2 children. We wanted 2 bedrooms (with separate beds for the kids in the 2nd bedroom), a full kitchen, located in or near the main central part of Rome and above all, we wanted a swimming pool so the kids could cool off after sightseeing / walking in the heat. I could be wrong, but I think Aldrovandi Residence City Suites is the ONLY hotel that met these objectives & we could not have been happier with our choice.

Some things are a little odd - such as needing a new / different password every day, for each separate device, for the free wifi - and it might be getting a little old - but for the important things, the hotel is perfect for families

1. Our Maxi Senor Suite was huge - 2 separate bedrooms, courtyard, large lounge / dining room & kitchen (although the 2nd bedroom was a little tight - basically just 2 single beds, nothing else)

2. Kitchen was adequate to allow us to at least have one meal in - it was not needed for breakfast as a fantastic breakfast buffet was included in our room rate.

3. The hotel is on Villa Borghese, just out of the central part of Rome. It was a leisurely 15 minute walk through the park to the Metro at Piazza del Popolo and also never more than 10 Euro cab fare when returning from sightseeing or a restaurant. The front desk staff also pointed us in the direction of an excellent supermarket (10 min walk), which was also near some nice restaurants. We tried the Brazilian one next to the cinema (cannot remember the name) - it was very good.

4. But most of all - the pool is sensational. Rome can be very hot and also very tiring. The pool was a god send with the kids and well worth the few extra Euro's staying here. We had two very long days - one on foot around Rome & one by bus to Assisi - and so we said the next day was for our 9 year old to chose what we did. We never left the hotel / pool!! It was a great day re-charging the batteries, about half way through our Italian adventure.

If you are a family, visiting Rome in summer, this is a perfect base to explore the city but also to relax & unwind when not dealing with the hussle & bussle of the city.

We had a senior suite (Dining/living room and kitchen on main floor, master in loft, bathroom and bedroom with 2 twins upstairs) on the main floor. No view from window. Lots of space and quite comfortable. Sofas have a wooden "arm" under the upholstery that makes lounging uncomfortable but otherwise ok. Bathroom does not match the rest of the room as is small and a little out of date.

Pool area really great and a nice refuge from the Roman crowds and summer heat. Breakfast is good. Staff competent and friendly.

The hotel is located across the park from everything - so a 10-15 minute walk was necessary. Park feels safe even at night. This is not a central location but it is located in a lively higher end residential area populated with many embassies. Was a little hard to find a place to eat at night we could walk to and from that was not too far away. Tram #19 (stop very near the hotel) goes straight to the Vatican.

Room Tip: Rooms at the front face the 4 lane street with busses, the tram and cars. Quieter in the back.

4 night stay for 3 of us in mid July in a junior suite, number 108, on the lower ground floor at the back of the building. This room is comfortable, cool, clean and convenient but not somewhere to choose if a view from the window is something you need. We found the pool clean and quiet and the hotel staff were reliably helpful and obliging with nothing too much trouble. Trams to Vatican and Colesseum stop outside and taxis to the centre arrived in a few minutes and cost us about 10/12 Euros. Several times we walked in and back from the city centre across the park which, even late at night when deserted, seemed safe. Would we stay again? Don't think we would look anywhere else. Easy hotel to recommend highly.

This hotel was realy nice! The service was great and even the hotel is not in the center of Rome, it was a perfect location. In a 15 minutes walk (trough a nice park) you are in the center of Rome (Piazza del Popolo).
Every morning they served a nice breakfast with the best espresso. After breakfast you could have a nice swim in the swimmingpool before going in to the city.

I really would recomend this nice hotel to everybody.

This is not a Mediterranean oasis. It is noisy and the city view is that of a tram stop plus grafitti. The rooms are also tired. I would rather have stayed in a travel lodge. It is certainly not worth the money.

Dear Guest

thank you in advance for your review. We are sorry you didn't enjoy your stay with us. I understand you didn't like the view of your room that was facing the street but our residence has also rooms with garden/pool view. I apologize if we couldn't offer another accomodation but we didn't recieve any complaint or request of change during your stay. Our Residence is mostly considered a fine, quite and relaxing destination in the hearth of Roma with a beautyful and peaceful pool area that remind and Oasis considering the position and exposure. Our rooms provide inlaid-wood furniture and elegant finishes. I believe our room style didn't match your expectation but i would not consider this "conned". I would be extremely happy to have you here again soon and show you another accomodation with a better view.
Best Regards

We had a wonderful 4 days in Aldrovandi Residence Suites and found it to be an ideal location. The staff were very friendly and helpful, the breakfast was delicious and the swimming pool and garden was a great treat in the center of a busy city. The suite was large and well furnished, ours had only one bathroom, which was a bit of an inconvenience given we were a party of 3 adults. The location is great, just a walk across the Borghese Gardens from Piazza de Popolo. The neighbourhood is safe and transport is close by. We found it to be great value for money and would stay again when we visit Rome

Room Tip: Would recommend room overlooking the pool, away from street (tram) noise.
