We booked a 1 bedroom and a 2 bedroom for our group of 7. We were allocated rooms on the ground floor both were dark and faced the street. That said they were very clean and the quiet location meant that there was very little noise from the road. The rooms are large and although dated quite comfortable.
The location is a bit out of central rome but only a 10 euro taxi ride from most places. The pool is a real bonus in the heat of the summer and great for the children. Breakfast was suprisingly good and staff all friendly and helpful. A good choice for families who like a bit of space and a pool.

The pool:
We chose the Aldrovandi Residence City Suites for the swimming pool. The idea was, that with hot summer weather, we would do the site seeing in the morning and then again in the evening but spend the hottest hours of the day by the pool. We were really glad for this, as summer in Rome is hot indeed. The pool is nice and big and was surprisingly uncrowded.

The room:
Our room (junior suite 505) was fantastic. Big room, comfortable and firm matress, nice bathroom, living room and kitchen with everything we needed. Good aircon. Our room overlooked the main street but was so well insulated that we couldn't hear anything. It is a tranquile area anyway.

The staff:
They all went out of their way to be friendly & helpful. English is widely spoken. In particular, Enrico was fantastic. He speaks perfect French.

The location:
Top notch residential / embassy area. OK, it is not central, but that is the price to pay for a great swimming pool. It is really not that far. Walking through the Borghese park into town is a nice 20 minute walk. Also good public transport, especially for Vatican. See below.

Public transportation:
Tramway 19 and bus n°3 stop right in front of the hotel. Tramway N°19 will take you directly to the Vatican. Going in the opposite direction, you can ride either tramway 19 or bus n°3 (faster) to "Policlinico" and from there connect with the metro (B). Bus n°3 also continues on to Trastevere. One ticket (1,50€) does it all. There is also an electrical bus (116) that you can catch from inside the Borghese park that will take you into town.

Taxi:
We paid approximately 10€ when taking a taxi back in the evening. From the airports, there is a widely advertised flat rate with all taxis of 30€ to/from Ciampino and 50€ to/from Fiumicino. However, this only applies to any point within the Hadrian wall which is not the case of the Aldrovandi suites. From the hotel to Ciampino, we paid 38€ for a prebooked taxi, (approx 35 minutes on a quiet day).

Self-catering:
One good point was also having a fully equiped kitchen in the room. If you are staying for severall days, you probably don't want to eat every meal out. We found a "tigre" supermarket on a corner, at "Policlinico", at the point of transferring from the metro to the bus. Room rate includes a very good breakfast buffet.

So all in all a great choice, especially on a hot summer day. Perfect with kids.

The front desk is manned 24 hours by courteous and efficient staff that seem happy to help with your needs . The room we were given was fine with a quirky tiny spiral staircase that just adds to the experience . Ok it's slightly out of the way but to us this was a huge plus with the park to stroll through to either the Barberini area or Spanish Steps area with the metro within a 15 minute (nice) walk . Finish the day with a swim in the pool and dry off in the Roma sun on the sunbeds which are attended . The pool bar provides drinks and a couple of basic snack options and is in the expensive side but if this is the price of having the facility then so be it .... When in Rome . You may need to do a bit of walking or , as we did , spend a few quid taxiing so if you want to do cheap then maybe look for somewhere located in central Rome . You only live once is my motto !

We enjoyed our stay in het hotel. The hotel is situated on a beautiful location.
In the morning we walked to the city centre, in the evening back we had to take the taxi (because of the park).
The swimmingpool was very welcome in the warmth of the summer.
The service was very friendly.

The service didn't know much about the metro/ tram and busses. We had to find this out ourselves.

The breakfast was not spectacular, more basic.

We were in Rome for 10 days, originally very central with 26 friends, then out past Trastevere for some relaxing-however were let down by the accommodation so moved at last minute. Found Androvandi via last minute search and so glad we did!!! The hotel is lovely, with the added advantage of the kitchenette in each room to keep water cold and snacks available. We probably had one of the worst rooms on the ground floor with the road directly outside, but that didn't take away from the high ceilings and lovely rooms that made us actually feel like we were in Rome rather than any hotel in any part of the world. Breakfast was delicious, the pool area amazing, but best of all the staff were fantastic and so friendly compared to the other places we stayed-special thanks to Alessandro and Luigi!! The location could be considered slightly out of the way, but is only a 10 min walk through Villa Borgese to the Metro and Piazza del Popolo or €10 in a taxi, so don't let that put you off. Definitely the best of our 3 hotels in Rome!!

In summer, in Rome, the size of this pool makes up for any perceived idiosyncrasies about the strange split level rooms or the very dated decor or the distance from the centre. There a several good restaurants within a 15 minute slow, safe walk through this expensive residential area of Roma. Tell any taxi to take you through the park, rather than around (an expensive detour), and you'll be in the old quarter city wall in no time.

My husband and I stayed here for two weeks to visit our son while he is at a Canadian University studying architecture in Rome. We wanted to have a kitchen in our room so that we could prepare some meals if we chose to. We chose the junior suite so that we could also have a sitting area separate from the bedroom. i have travelled a lot in Europe and was very pleased with the hotel and our rooms. The pool area was wonderful just to relax in after a day of sightseeing, and the beer is ice cold. The staff are very friendly and were able to steer us to local restaurants and a small supermarket, all within walking distance. The breakfast is truly outstanding. Rapael packed us an excellent "box breakfast' for a very early morning meal when we took a bus tour to Tuscany for the day.
Rome is a fabulous but of course very busy city and to walk through the park after being in crowds all day was heaven for us. Sometimes we would spend the better part of our day or evening there. There are places to eat, drink and just watch people walking their dogs in a huge area where the dogs can all play together. We took many evening strolls there as well, just stay on the well lit roads. I felt safe in the park, even when I was alone during the day feeding the ducks in their small lake or just sitting on a bench reading.
We walked everywhere, the Coliseum, Capitol Hill, museums and churches, only taking taxis at night if we wanted to go for dinner in the city centre.
We would not hesitate to return to this hotel!
