Great stay! Really pretty grounds and rooms. Comfortable beds. The staff was also very helpful. Loved the free bikes and breakfasts were the best we had in Italy. Also, the happy hour was a wonderful added bonus - great to have hearty snacks at the end of a long day of sightseeing.

The Hotel Santa Maria is just excellent. Small, intimate, quiet. An oasis of calm in the middle of the old area of Travestere.

Comfortable, with garden , lovely warm and helpful staff and walking / short taxi ride to everything you will want to see. The area around the hotel has a huge range of restaurants, bars and interesting small shops.

Santa Maria hotel is a gem in a pile of rubble. It is a garden paradise in the heart of Rome. Breakfast is served in the garden, shaded by lush orange trees. Walking distance to all tourist attractions. It is surrounded by excellent restaurants and squares to enjoy the quiet night life of Rome. The staff are friendly an helpful. I would highly recommend staying here.

The Hotel Santa Maria in Rome was wonderful! We went with another couple and just loved our rooms, the courtyard, the location - everything! The staff was warm and friendly. The breakfast was the best selection of all the places we stayed at in Italy (Elba, Grosetto, Venice...)
I highly recommend taking their bikes out for a spin. We had so much fun riding around to the Coliseum, the Trevi Fountain and the Spanish steps. A great way to see Rome! Yes it's crazy on the cobblestones and the wild Italian drivers and mopeds, but that just added to the excitement. I loved how the hotel was in it's own little oasis - away from the hustle and bustle - yet near it all. I would stay here again in a heartbeat.

Room Tip: Rooms away from the courtyard were quieter. The suite our friends were in - the bedroom and bathroo...

This is a great place to stay, wonderful peaceful place to come home to after a busy day in the center of the city. The square nearby is lively in the evenings when you wish to dine and watch the entertainment. Easy access to all the city has to offer but away from the noise. Very clean and good breakfasts. The staff were extremely helpful and friendly. Would love to return someday. If I ever return to Rome, I would certainly stay here.

All the other reviews are accurate, central location, service (loved the Filipino staff), and orange tree courtyard were a great break from busy Rome. We had room 15, among the larger ones, on the 2nd floor away from any noise, and with a 1000 sf sundeck for privacy/al fresco dining.
