“Great hotel in Trastevere”
Reviewed March 18, 2013

We stayed for 5 nights and found the hotel to be very pleasant. Great location - we were able to walk everywhere; and clean. Staff were very friendly, and breakfast included different types of bread with cold meats and cheeses, tomatoes, ricotta, scrambled eggs, croissants, pastries, fresh fruit, coffees, etc. etc. The hotel is also very quiet. It is not a cheap hotel, but it is worth the money if you are after a clean, well-managed hotel in a great neighbourhood, in the centre of Rome, with friendly staff.

My husband and I have just come home from our travel to Rome where we lived in the marvellous Hotel Santa Maria. We got a very personal reception and the room, the garden, the staff, the breakfast, the happy hour were all excellent. The hotel is very quite, even if it is situated in a busy area. Trastevere is a very interesting part of Rome and it was possible to walk to all the museums and archaeological sites we wanted to visit. We really want to stay there again! We were impressed by the reception the new pope got by the people i Rome.

My daughter and I booked the Residenza Santa Maria, the sister hotel to the Hotel Santa Maria, and then decided to come to Rome a day early. They found us the last room they had in the Hotel for a single night stay, and we were sorry that we couldn't stay there the whole time. In fact, een though the Residenza is rated more highly than the Hotel, in our opinion it's the reverse.

The hotel is on a quiet street, behind locked decorative doors. We were given room #19 but because it smelled like smoke we were immediately and without question moved to the room next door, #20. It was on two floors. The main floor had a single bed, small desk, light, TV and small window. The second floor had a king bed, TV, small window, small refrigerator, and bathroom with bath/shower combo. The bed was extremely comfortable and it was so quiet at night and during the day you would find it hard to believe you are in Rome. The ceilings on the second floor were low. No problem for us (we're both 5'5") - in fact, we felt like we had a little extra luxury having two floors. The rooms were spotless and nicely decorated.

There are lovely tables and chairs in the middle of the piazza at the hotel, and a great breakfast/bar/sitting area just off the main driveway. Unfortunately, it was too cold when we visited to sit there comfortably. Free breakfast consisted of traditional European breads, salami, cheese, ham, sweets, cereal, pre-cooked scrambled eggs, juice, teas and coffees. It was lovely and the staff in the breakfast area and main reception were wonderful.

There are no metro's nearby but there are buses to take you into the main part of Rome and if you are up for a short walk you can use one of two bridges 5 minutes from the hotel to get from Trastevere to the main part of Rome. Lots of fantastic, and very reasonably priced restaurants in the area. Our daily budget for food has dropped by 50% moving from the Vatican City to Trastavere and the food is easily as good, if not better. If I return to Rome, I would opt to stay here instead of anywhere in main Rome because of the lovely atmosphere, incredible staff, and wonderful location.

Room Tip: Room #20 is on two floors. Single bed downstairs, king size bed upstairs. Good if you're trave...

This hotel was more than I expected. I had done my homework and read the reviews but I was still blown away by how lovely it was. The desk managers were kind and helpful. There were different people there depending on the time and day but all of them were excellent. Our room was cozy and warm -I was worried as it was brisk out when we went in mid February. Breakfast was a nice variety and by our second morning we were automatically served a cappuccino as we sat down. The neighborhood surrounding the hotel is one of the nicest in Trastevere. We were close to the Tiber and able to walk everywhere. We were also close to some excellent restaurants. Overall I can say this is one of the nicest hotels I have ever stayed in and would stay there again on any trip to Rome.

Room Tip: I think all the rooms are good.

We booked this hotel based on tripadvisor reviews and were not disappointed ! It's lovely and peaceful. Alittle haven tucked away amongst the cobbled maze that is Trastevere. The staff were very pleasant and helpful and the rooms were spotless. Breakfast was excellent and the staff in the breakfast room were lovely. Plenty of good restaurants nearby to choose from. Sit in the Piazza de Santa Maria in Trastevere and watch the world go by with a glass of wine, wonderful after a long day sightseeing and stroll back to the hotel, which is a stone's throw away. I would definitely stay here again - here's hoping I return to Roma !! :D

I really can't add much that hasn't been said already. We had three great rooms. The one tag along spouse was over the moon with the atmosphere and charm, The breakfast is among the best I have ever had and the staff is soooo helpful.

I advise you have their driver pick you up at the airport as this neighborhood is a real maze to negotiate. The cost is comparable to a taxi. We rented a car and after just three or four days and a Garmin voice in our ear could find our way back to our parking spot in the courtyard, It can be done, It is also a pedestrian's paradise to just wander the quarter, but take your map.

It's hard to describe LaTrastevere. It's very lively and crowded with locals and tourists, But, there are few touristy shops. Lot's of restaurants, several small grocery stores, tobaconists, etc, No souvenir stands. Makes you feel like a local.
