I stayed at Hotel Santa Maria only for two nights, but had a very good impression.
The hotel is well situated in a side street of the Piazza Santa Maria , the heart of the Trastevere neighbourhood.

The location is convenient to explore Rome by foot and (in my opinion) has the added bonus of being in a very pleasant area , especially during the day, where the streets are calm in comparison to the historic center of the city.

Many restaurants and bars nearby. In the weekends, during the night, It might get annoying because of young people and turists getting drunk , but the hotel is well protected from the noise.

One thing that I like is the fact that all rooms are at ground level, facing a courtyard with orange trees. I noticed some bycicles for rent, which was a nice touch too.

The room (triple) had a good size, a flower themed decoration and an excellent bathroom, with a bathtub and a real shower.

Breakfast was nice but can be improved with more organic choices, specially regarding cereals.

Overall , Hotel Santa Maria is a fine option in Rome .

I fell in love with Hotel Santa Maria di Travestere from the moment we arrived for a five day stay in Rome. Orange trees ornament the charming rustic courtyard. The staff is kind, polite, quiet, and unobtrusive. You can get a driver to meet you at the airport to take you here. A long courtyard with a gate leads to the busy winding streets of Travestere, and to me, as soon as one left the streets to go to one's room, one left the noise and vibrant life behind for peace, quiet, and rest. Breakfast of many choices (croissants, fresh cheesecake, cereals and yogurt, juices, water and hot drinks). Small but sufficient and clean rooms overlooking courtyards. Everywhere you look in Travestere, not to mention the courtyard of this hotel, there is a picture. Location pretty central to everything, and I walked everywhere (Janiculum, Vatican, Palatine, Forum, Campo Fiori, Via Veneto, Piazza Populo, Piazza Novona, etc.) I have already recommended this hotel to relatives who are travelling to Rome.

We just arrived home from our week in Rome. We picked Hotel Santa Maria based on Trip advisor reviews and were not disappointed. The rooms while small as most are in Rome was clean and neat. It was a wonderful small hotel. Every morning there was a free breakfast to eat which had eggs and an assortment of fruit, juices, croissants, cereals, and cookies. Every evening at 5:30 there was a happy hour - drinks were extra but there was an assortment of cheeses, meats, etc to accompany your drink. Bicycles are free to rent to ride around Trastevere. The location was great - Trastevere is a fabulous area with many restaurants, bars, shops and quaint little Piazzzas. We were able to walk to many sites within a 5-10 minute walk. We thoroughly enjoyed our stay and when back in Rome will stay here again. Staff is pleasant and helpful.

Despite the fact that it rained most of the time during my stay, it was still a lovely hotel to stay in. The location is just great, its quiet and the staff are happy to help with anything. I liked the bar, my room was very good. I just wish it hadnt rained so much and I could have sat outside in the lovely courtyard.

This was our second stay at this hotel and it was just as good second time round. Very comfortable although quite noisy at times as other residents and cleaning staff don't seem to be aware that people might be trying to sleep at 8am! However, the staff are friendly and efficient. The location is fabulous - this is a wonderful part of Rome, full of character. I hope to return to Rome again and this will be the first hotel I try to book.

This was the best possible place to spend our time in Rome. It was in the perfect location, an easy distance to walk to all main attractions e.g Coliseum, Vatican, Pantheon. There was also many lovely restaurants around the hotel which were very easy to find, we found the first ourselves and then reception recommended the second to us most kindly. So being in the perfect spot meant we didn't have to take the bus anywhere! We had a lovely warm suite which we all shared and it was fantastic space-wise. The staff were friendly and very helpful and breakfast was fantastic and delicious (especially the hot chocolate).

I stayed here just for one night before staying with a friend for the rest of my trip to Rome. The location was great, and the whole place was beautiful. The staff was very helpful, and the rooms were clean and comfortable, even though a little small. As some other travelers commented, the walls were pretty thin. Not realizing this at first, I was skyping with my parents, and not being particularly quiet, and my British neighbor knocked on my door and said she could hear every word...oops! (Sorry about that again, if you read this!)

To be honest though, I'd stay again. The pros definitely outweighed the cons for this hotel. Breakfast was great, too!

Thanks to Antonio at the front desk for all of his help =)
