“View from the window and view from the breakfast table were magical!”

We liked some things a LOT about this hotel and other things were marginal, but bottom line, we would go there again. It is fairly centrally located, and we walked (with a wheelchair) to all major sites.

I could not get enough of standing at the window and watching Trevi Fountain - morning when the crew came to sweep out coins to lights at night. Second favorite thing was the breakfast room. It was light and airy, open and overlooking the fountain from the third+ floor. What's more, the selection was good, as was the quality.

The hallways were black and close. The elevator was tiny. The entrance/check-in area was tiny, old and worn, dark and slightly uncomfortable.

The bed was king-sized with a good mattress and linens. The building was old, so it goes without saying that you have to be prepared for a little old-ness: paint peeling, etc.

My husband is in a wheelchair, which they knew as the chair was parked in the lobby/hall because it probably would not have fit in the elevator, and there would have been no where for it to sit in the room. The desk clerk made reservations for us for two tours and took a tip for doing so. He didn't confirm that the tours were acceptable for wheelchairs, and both tours, when we met them, turned us down. That was very poor service, in my opinion.

Room Tip: We did not see rooms other than the rooms-with-a-view, but I suspect they resembled closets.

We picked this hotel due to its fabulous location right by the Trevi fountain, with a breakfast room that looks out onto it. Although we did enjoy such a close up view of the fountain, there were many things about the hotel we did not like and would therefore not stay there again.
For one, the elevator was in disrepair, so we had to drag our luggage up to the 4th floor.
The bathroom was impossibly tiny. The bedroom had very high ceilings but the floor space was minimal. The staff attending the guests in the breakfast room were unpleasant and even rude.
Breakfast itself was not bad. When I politely asked for an espresso since the coffee was so disappointing, the server brought me the same coffee but in an espresso sized cup. I pointed this out to her and she got really offended. She went back to the kitchen and I could finally here the espresso machine being put to work. The hallways were dark. There's nothing I can say that was good about it except for the location. As said, I would not stay here again!

Room Tip: If you insist on wanting to stay at this hotel, ask for a room with a view onto the Trevi Fountain...

First of all they hold your passport like a prisoner. The shower was only a plastic box 2x2 feet wide, incredible, surrounded by a very thin curtain. Filthy. Breakfast buffet was soo poor, the only good thing was the view to the Trevi Fountain from the breakfast place. I will go back to beautiful and historical Rome, but not even for free to that hotel.

Room Tip: Dont waste your good mony in a hotel like this. You can pay less for a much better hotel away from F...

Very small room, noisy at night, not a lot of amenities, but what a great location. It is the closest hotel to the trevi fountain and walking distance to everything. Breakfast overlooking the fountain included.

We couldn't be any closer to the Trevi Fountain than this hotel. We loved the location. The noise level will always be loud because of the crowds at the Trevi fountain. It didn't bother us. We wanted to be in the center of all the action. The staff was not helpful and was given the wrong information for directions. Breakfast was OK. Nothing great. The view is the best thing about this hotel. So the Excellent rating is for Location and view of Trevi fountain.

This hotel has the worst customer service possible. If you request anything, it's as if you are irritating the staff. Our air conditioning did not work. It was very warm for October making our room uncomfortable and sleeping difficult. The T.V. did not work. The beds are extremely uncomfortable with horrible pillows. There is no room to place your luggage. I asked were the ice machine was and the front desk clerk said, "no ice!" I would not accept there wasn't any ice in which a bucket with a few cubes was delivered to our room. The toilet literally protrudes under the sink and the shower is about a foot wide. Upon asking for directions, the staff would just point and would not elaborate. It is an uncomfortable, unfriendly hotel. There are several hotels in the area, stay some place else!!

With this being our first trip to Rome, we decided we would like to be in the middle of everything that was on our initial itinery. Hotel Fontana fitted the bill to a tee. If you want a plush ultra modern all singing all dancing hotel, Fontana isn't for you. The word that sprang to mind immediately was "qwerky". It is Rome. The atmosphere is unique, but the service was as we wanted, very good without being pushy or snobby. Each return after trekking round the streets was friendly and interested. Each morning at breakfast the day ahead was asked about and suggestions given if asked for. To add to this it was like staying in the Trevi Fountain. The hustle and bustle was ever present. A definite return trip to Rome will include Hotel Fontana.

Room Tip: pay the extra for a room overlooking the Fountain just for the added atmosphere from 07:30 through t...
