This hotel is super nice, not fancy but nice. The rooms are beautiful, everything in them is wood. The beds were large and comfortable. The bathroom was also interesting, there was a staircase with a mini balcony to lead you down to it.
The location is excellent, with the fountain right in front of it. You can see it from the restaurant upstairs (where breakfast is served) and probably from some rooms. Due to the popular location, there were people all the time on the street, even late at night. Noise wasn't an issue though.
The breakfast buffet was acceptable.

What wasn't fun though was that the hotel said there's wifi in the rooms, which is actually not the case. Wifi only works on the roof in the restaurant, which was inconvenient.

We stayed for 3 nights (11-14 April) and found this hotel to be perfect for us - yes it is expensive but it is slap bang in the centre of Rome - a perfect location for sightseeing. You are not paying for the room size here, you are paying for the fact that it is on the Trevi Square and the roof terrace where you have breakfast is fantastic. Our room was small and shower tiny, but it had a very high vaulted wooden ceiling so the room didn't actually seem that small. It used to be a monastery in the 1700s so you can imagine the quirky features and little corridors, it has such character. The fountain is quite noisy but we were tired after a full day's sightseeing that we had no problem sleeping! We found the hotel staff on reception very friendly and helpful. We would have no hesitation in staying here again. You can walk everywhere from here, even across to the Vatican. Just one thing:- would have been nice to have tea/coffee making facilities in the room... :-)

We booked a romantic couple of nights and paid £340 for 2 nights here. It was awful. The room was very small and the ensuite was tiny. Seriously you could sit on the loo and have a shower!
To top it all there was no hot water for showers, so we had cold showers - not good on a romantic weekend. We spoke to the management and they were not at all helpful.
Seriously do not bother staying here its terrible. I have a complaint lodged with lastminute.com at the moment to try and get some money back.
Not a good place to stay I'm sorry to say.

We booked the room because of reviews. Bad idea. Room is smaller than a standard walk in closet. Bathroom is a joke make for little hobbit people. Service poor. Internet not functioning . Big mistake to enjoy Rome in these digs. Good location if you enjoys 7,000 people outside you bedroom window.

We booked this hotel with a little reservation....due to the mixed reviews we had read on T/A....but we were pleasantly surprised to be greeted with a smile and a good manner by Nicholas at reception....then shown to our room by a very sweet caring man Issac...we stayed here for 4 nights and couldn't fault the hotel....Yes it's a old monastery....so you expect it to be a little on the small side.....not your big modern 5 star building....the furniture goes with vintage of the building....on entry to our room it smelt lovely and fresh and the bathroom is recently updated....and works very well...great shower...big vanity basin...towel heater.....the breakfast in the terrace room was more than adequate and nothing was too much trouble for the staff.......also forgot to mention the great view of both from the terrace and our room......we were in room 306 and it was well worth the price for that gorgeous view.....as I said we were pleasantly surprised in everyway....after reading a couple of mixed reviews...should we visit Rome again in the future....we would certainly stay at Hotel Fontana.....if you like boutique / quirky style hotels.....give it a go and remember the view is the focal point....the hotel is a bonus....how lucky are we to have the privilege of staying in a ex monastery....5 stars from us.....Marie and Daryl from Australia.

The only positive aspect of this hotel is looking down directly at the Trevi fountain from the top floor breakfast room. While some might like the proximity to Trevi Fountain, the hordes of people directly in front of the entrance of the hotel all hours day and night is a definite downside. The hotel itself is old, tired and dark with cramped & smelly lobby. The single room was similarly cramped, lacked a window and could not be more basic. The bathroom was in keeping with the small and cramped theme with no place to put the soap in the shower. The included breakfast was adequate, but on check in no one mentioned that dinner had to be reserved in advance so the "chef", term used loosely, had to buy the ingredients based on reservations. While I have to give him credit for accommodating me, the meal he put together with whatever scraps he could find was prepared in a toaster oven since the "restaurant" lacks a proper kitchen. It also had no seasoning and cost 45 euros. The only reprieve was the view of the lit up Trevi Fountain and the very attentive chef whose pleasant personality made up a little for his lack of culinary skills. I did not find the other hotel staff to be as pleasant. They were not warm and welcoming as you would expect hospitality workers to be, and on checkout I felt like I was being dismissed without being thanked or asked about how my stay was. On this vacation I stayed in hotels in various cities and this was the most expensive and the worst one.

This hotel is a bargain! We are experienced travelers in Italy and typically spend about three to four weeks in-country. We always start our trip with a couple of days in Rome and the last two times at this hotel.

The location is superb although it can be a little noisy at night. It is directly in front of the Trevi. See the photo from our room. It is fun to watch the crowds around the fountain when our day is done. The rooms are clean and everything works. The staff is friendly, helpful and patient. Breakfast is a typical Italian continental and good although we often go out to a nearby cafe'. The cost is surpisingly reasonable for the prime location in the center of Rome. Everything touristy is an easy walk which is a good thing since the closest parking is an underground site about six blocks away.

Down sides: If you are somewhat physically challenged, a taxi cannot take you to the door of this hotel. You must hump your bags a block or so. I'm sure the hotel can get someone to help if you must. It is still worth it.
