“Excellent boutique style hotel, top notch service.”
Reviewed November 27, 2013

What a great place in the heart of the Eternal City! We were on the last leg of a two week trip through parts of Spain, ending with 4 days in Rome, Italy. All of our accommodations had been great, so we were really looking forward to the final leg in Rome – and the Dharma did not disappoint at all! Their pre-arrival emails were great as they provided all kinds of important information about the various options to get to the hotel. They also offered to arrange for a private driver who would collect us at the airport. As this was our first visit to Rome, all this info was greatly appreciated. Yes, we opted for the private driver since we were arriving quite late and wanted to just get to the hotel once we landed. The driver was waiting for us at the arrivals gate, and he took us on a lovely scenic drive, offering all kinds of tips and information along the way. As it was a set fee, we had no concerns. On arrival at the hotel, we were met by a very enthusiastic and friendly representative. He checked us in, gave us a map of the city with all the places of interest we had mentioned clearly marked, and took us to our room. I believe it was room 337. It was awesome!! Very modern, very high-end, very, very nice indeed! There was no outside noise. The bed was super comfortable – soft clean sheets and warm cozy duvet. The room was spotless, and throughout our stay was very well cleaned and presented. Under-floor heating in the bathroom was a very nice touch. Awesome, large walk-in shower, with jets and rain showerhead. It was also a steam-shower but we could not figure out how it worked, and there no instructions, but it was really not a big deal for us. The shower itself was excellent. There was a TV which we did watch late at night once we were ready for bed, just to catch up on the day’s news. There were several English language channels including Sky and BBC News. There was also a kettle, with some tea bags and instant coffee. Again, it was great to have a cuppa tea in the evening before bed, and a quick shot of coffee before heading out to get a real cup of coffee and a fresh pastry!! We had breakfast included in the rate, and it is provided by a little bistro downstairs on the street level called Cotto. The breakfast was nothing special, maybe even a little “tired” but it sure helped to get us going in the morning. The service at both the hotel and the restaurant was great. Everyone we came in contact with was always friendly, genuine, and very helpful.

Overall the Dharma hotel was excellent, and a very fitting way to end our vacation. It is perhaps a little far away from the ancient core of the city, but it was very close to both a metro line and the main train station which was a huge plus. The metro is very easy to use, and cheap. Given how close we were to the train station we decided to take the Airport Train on our way out – again it was easy to buy tickets, and very well priced at 13 Euros. I think it is even cheaper if you buy your ticket outside the main train station building. Loved Rome – it’s an awesome city and we will have to return, and yes, we would very strongly consider the Dharma Hotel next time again! Excellent boutique style hotel, top notch service, and great value.

Room Tip: We had room 337, which was excellent.

Dear NoNoise1963,

thank you for posting such a great review about your stay at Dharma Hotel. We are very happy that you wanted to rate our hotel 5/5, even though you felt like to remark some things that might be improved (restaurant).
Let me tell you, we have gone through a major restyling of breakfast and food concept at Dharma & Cotto, we are trying hard and making a lot of effort without affecting your rate.
If you are a frequent traveller, I think you are aware that if you want to have a "rich" and "top notch" breakfast, hotels all around the world ask for a generous extra fee, while we don't.
At Cotto Restaurant, You can have variety, freshness and quality every morning, mixing American, Continental and Italian breakfast. And that's for free.
Thank you for taking the time to share your review, we appreciate your candid feedback and suggestions. Feel free to return anytime you're around, you are welcome!

Best regards,

Lorenzo Macinanti

I stayed in Dharma for 3 nights with my wife before we start a cruise. The great comments was the reason to chose this hotel. It was exactly as described. Close to Termini, close to Subway, friendly staff, good morning breakfast, nice and confortable room at a reasonable price. I will for sure return to Dharma on my next trip to Rome!

We stayed in a comfort double for two nights at Hotel Dharma. Staff is very attentive - asked what time we planned to arrive and arranged pickup service from the airport for us (£50) via email. We arrived close to midnight but staff made it seem like it was not a problem at all.

Room was fairly large for European standards. Included private bath. Both room and bath were spotless when we arrived. Hotel posted pictures are true to actual experience.

Breakfast was included in the nightly rate and was provided by the restaurant next door - Cotto. Included pastries, meats, cheeses, yogurt, fresh fruits, tomato, and rocket salad, eggs (hard boiled and scrambled) and a number of beverage options including espresso. Best breakfast of all hotels we visited in Italy.

Location was good - walking distance to all major sites and close to Termini. Not my favorite area in Rome but very accessible.

Good in-room internet connection and staff will print docs for you as needed.

Would recommend to friends for future stay.

We stayed for 2 nights in the Superior Triple room and the room size was fairly big in Rome/Europe standards (from what I understand). There was a small entryway and then 2 steps down to a high ceiling room with a day bed and a queen size bed in the middle. There was also a large desk to put things like your laptop and other miscellaneous things.

The toilet and bidet are located separately and across from the standing shower. There is no true "washroom" as there is no door except the one that separates the toilets. The sink area was a bit small for a room of that size. The standing shower was big and decorated with mosaic tiles throughout and a glass enclosure. They also advertise the light therapy which is really just LED lights above the shower that can be set to change to different colours. The one bad thing about this particular room and shower is that it leaks onto the floor like crazy. We tried to be very careful, but even still our entire sink area floor was soaked. I think I read several other reviews saying the same thing. I'm not sure if it was this particular room.

The staff, Lorenzo and the other smaller fella were extremely nice. Upon our arrival, Lorenzo welcomed us with a big smile and showed us to our room where he explained each and every part of the room thoroughly. Lorenzo is usually there during the day and the night staff, we had this smaller guy for 2 of the 3 nights and he was also very helpful, friendly and booked a restaurant for us.

The hotel is not far from Termini, but I suggest you familiarize yourself with the exact route from an exit from Termini to there. Termini, even during the day is a bit sketchy and one will try to rush through and end up getting lost on the way to the hotel. The last thing you want is to lug a few suitcases and stand in the middle of that area looking at a map or cell phone.

It is about a 10 min walk from Termini to the hotel. The location of the hotel is pretty good since it is definitely walkable to most of the attractions like Colosseum, Trevi Fountain, except Vatican. Technically, it's probably a 45 min-ish walk to Vatican, but you can walk 2 mins over to Repubblica station and take about 4-5 stops to Vatican. Most of Rome can really be explored by feet and the hotel is in a nice area to all attractions and Termini.

Would definitely stay there again in the future, the only complaint is the leaky shower. Also, as a few other reviews have said, the windows are not really soundproof and the garbage truck really does come around 1am every night and you will always hear honks and cars right till sunrise. The street is rather busy and there are a lot of delivery trucks as well. But they provide complimentary earplugs, so it's not too bad.

Room Tip: Try not to stay on the 5th floor as that's where reception is and the doors aren't very soun...

I stayed in the Dharma Hotel for 3 nights with my parent after our cruise journey on Nov 16-19th. I picked Dharma Hotel due to the great reputations from trip advisor.

Excellent location
located in city centre of roma, close to metro, 2 mins, and bus stops, 3mins by the corner. *Once you get into the Metro, it will take you to all sightseeing places...so convenience. **Get an unlimited travel day-pass from the station. Price is only euro4.00. (one way is euro1.50)
Cafes, restaurants, pubs, gelatos, cinema and shopping mall are all near by.

Big, clean, trendy Room
The room is bigger than what we expected. Lots of space to walk around even we had 3ppls and the design are so modern-good for young couples and young travellers!
Bathroom is big and trendy, and offers heated-iron board for drying towels...i really love this idea :)

Breakfast buffet included and dine at the Cafe Cotto downstair-another trendy cafe with funny italian waiters!!

Helpful and professional staff
Once i stepped in the reception area, the staff provided me with all useful information include maps and tours. They also helped me in booking my airport transfer and searching for local opera schedules.

*Thank you, Enzo and Max for all the annoying requests from us!! :))

We had a great time staying in roma. Thank you Dharma Hotel!!

Our 3 night stay in the Dharma hotel was nothing less than perfect. Our trip to Rome was for a special anniversary and the hotel were very kind in fulfilling a request made when booking the asking if they could do something to make the trip even more special for us. Hotel Dharma did not fail to delivery surprising us with a lovely bottle of presecco one evening,

The hotel staff are polite and friendly. We can not fault them on service, we choose not to use the concierge service but we did witness the hotel staff helping another group with their tours and i'm sure if we had required any help with tours or information they would have proved useful. We were shown to our rooms on arrival and given a short "room tour" to assure we knew how to use all the features available.

The room itself lived up to all expectations, opting for the room with a Jacuzzi, steam room and balcony was a great idea and worth every penny. The room was very spacious, with marble floors, air conditioning and a fire place (although we happened to visit during a very hot 20 degree November). The bed was comfortable with a nice sturdy mattress and lighting above the bed. The bathroom had matching "his and hers" sinks and was very modern, they also provided bath slippers, herbal shampoos and body wash and bath salts for the Jacuzzi. The Jacuzzi was spacious and the hotel provides tea light candles to be used next to the jazcuzzi, which also featured LED star lighting above. The balcony in our room was great, the view wasn't fantastic but it did have balcony furniture and a lantern.

The room was clean and we had a maid service everyday. Despite having relatively late starts (around 11 a.m) the maid still cleaned our room everyday to a very high standard.
Aside from room quality and service the Hotel Dharma delivers on location, being placed at an ideal tourist spot we were able to do most of our sightseeing by foot, apart from our trip to the Vatican for which we decided to use the Metro from Metro station Repubblica located 1 minute walk away from the hotel.

There is no doubt we would come back to this hotel if staying in Rome again.

Room Tip: We stayed in room 302

We stayed at Hotel Dharma for 3 nights and absolutely loved it. The rooms are spacious and newly renovated in a modern style. Our first night we stayed at a Boscolo Hotel and found the room to be very old and grimy so it was a pleasant surprise to find that Hotel Dharma was so much nicer. The staff was also very nice and provided great recommendations. The only recommendation I would provide is to request a room away from the street if you are a light sleeper since the hotel is located near a busy street. Other than that, the location of the hotel was perfect- walking distance from both Termini Station/Metro and the Republic Metro as well as the 40 and 64 bus stop taking towards the major sites. We would definitely recommend this hotel and stay here again during our next visit :)
