“Comfortable and convenient place to stay”
4 of 5 bubbles Reviewed November 22, 2012

I stayed here for two nights and had a very pleasant stay. Hotel Apli is a wonderful hotel, close to Termini station; about a five to ten minute walk, so convenient for getting about the city. I was able to check in early which after a long stressed flight and sweating in the July Italian heat I was very grateful for.
The air conditioning was fab but at one point we had to turn off as we got too cold, which I certainly was not expecting! The interior was wonderful- lovely pale green and pink colours. I loved the furniture and wanted to take the desk in my room home! The beds were very comfortable, the room was clean and the staff were friendly and helpful.
The only downsides were the safe in our room didn’t seem to work, I managed to get it open but it wouldn’t lock. Also when using the shower there was a gap between the partition and the tub so when you got out there was a whole stream of water on the floor which I tried to dry up but ended up not having enough towels!

My husband I stayed here with his parents in neighbouring rooms on level two. We found the staff to be very helpful and cheerful. The breakfast was excellent every morning. Although the area surrounding the train station does not hold many attractions, there are a few nice restaurants on the side streets nearby to the hotel. It is easy to use either the hop-on/hop-off tourist bus to get around, the metro is easy to navigate and cheap however it gets crowded at some points during the day, taxis are easy enough to use and not too expensive. My in-laws had a great room which was very spacious with a lovely bathroom. Our room was also nice, but a little cramped. My one complaint was that our shower head inthe bathroom did not have a wall bracket and so we had to awkwardly hold the shower head while trying to shower, or have baths. Other than that, the hotel was great.

If you know Rome, you know there's nothing of any interest near the train station, but hotels are more reasonable and it's the best location to get to other places, which is why we booked this place. It's about a block away from the station, on a quiet side street (realizing "quiet" is a relative term in Rome).

The description in some of the negative reviews doesn't match our experience at all. The hotel and the room were very clean and modern, and the bed was remarkably comfortable. We thought we were over our jetlag by the time we got to Rome, but we still found ourselves sleeping nine or ten hours a night because the bed was so nice (and we were also exhausted from sightseeing, of course). They also most definitely have an elevator, albeit a tiny one. Internet was free, although it did seem to stall occasionally.

There is a nice breakfast buffet, with more variety than you'll find at a lot of hotels in Italy. The staff were very friendly, and all spoke excellent English.

We quite accidentally stumbled on an added bonus for anyone interested in science or science history. If you walk away from the station on Via Castelfidardo, and take the first left, you'll be on the Via Gaeta. A short way down the block, at 4310, is a plaque noting the birthplace of Enrico Fermi!

This hotel is a comfortable hotel. We have a balcony and it's really nice at night. They serve complimentary breakfast and the staff in the breakfast room are friendly especially Alfred. It is close to the Termini and yet quiet. The staff are friendly. But we are not happy with the bathroom. It has spots of mold in the tub area and water from the shower is going literally hot and cold. The hair dryer in the bathroom is crappy. Every time we use it, it smells like something is burning and the handle gets too hot. The bathroom deserves only one star.

I just spent three nights at the Hotel Alpi. I had booked and payed for a superior room, with "exclusive design", however when I arrived I was ushered into a filthy, old room, with age-long carpets and furniture and an indecent bathroom. Obviously I pointed out that there must be a mistake, and showed the text of my reservation. But the reception refused to do anything because "the hotel was full". After a certain amount of discussion they offered to move me the next day. Which they did, moving me to a room where the exclusively designed bathroom door would stay open! It is a sliding door that does not slide into a slit but floats and stay open, offering full view into the bathroom for anybody in the bedroom, as it became clear when my partner joined me on the second night. So anybody who values privacy and decency might want to think twice whether to book at this hotel.
Other issues:
- the balcony door did not close properly and it felt like sleeping directly in the piazza below because of the extreme traffic noise,
- the room had an internal door connecting to another room, and again the noise level was extreme when at 3am the guy next door started an internet conversation that we could follow all the way through,
- the reception staff was rude and unhelpful.

The kitchen and room staff however was delightful. This has been the only nice thing about this hotel.

Room Tip: Rooms on the street side are extremely noisy

Visited at the start of November for 5 nights. Staff were very friendly, entrance lobby nice and clean. The lift is a bit interesting!
This hotel is so close to Termini and yet is very quiet at night, very little noise from the rest of the hotel or outside. This location is perfect for walking to the metro and bus stops around Termini.
Also within reasonable walking distance of the Collosseum, The Forums, Spanish Steps and the Trevi Fountain. Metro to Vatican was pretty quick - the metro ticket machines need change - and take a maximum of 10 euro notes (dont take a 20!) and make sure you book your Vatican tickets online before you go... queues in the morning are horrendous!
Paid extra for the luxury room which had a tiny little terrace which was very useful. But there is no kettle/tea/coffee in the room (have to order room service for refreshments) however there is a minibar fridge. The shower was fantastic. The aircon was not so good (yes it was needed in November!) - not sure how good it would be in the summer... The electric sockets seemed to be a smaller version of our EU adaptors - some of the adaptors worked, some of them didnt.
Breakfast was absolutely fine - was continental food so no hot food available. Plenty of restaurants in the surrounding streets for breakfast, lunch and dinner. Check out Est est est restaurant, very reasonably priced and good quality food which is about 10 minutes walk away.
Really enjoyed our stay, was helped along by a relaxing hotel which was so brilliantly located.

Room Tip: Pay extra to get a terrace, so worth it!

We stayed here in October '12 and booked this hotel because of the great price we got, it's very close to Termini which is a bonus. The lobby/foyer is very nice, staff extremely pleasant, we were "upgraded" to luxury room which was fine, not very big but we had a decent view from the balcony. Mini bar was well stocked and not too overpriced. Nice bathroom. The only downside to our "upgrade" was the TINY lift we had to get to get to our room! Barely enough room for two people and if you were a bit claustrophobic it could be a problem but we did appreciate the thought. Breakfast is very good with lots of choice. A big plus for this hotel is the lovely terrace bar, it's a lovely place to sit and have a drink after a long day's sight seeing. Again the price of the drinks was really very reasonably and the bar man very friendly. I would have no hesitation recommending this hotel, it really is a great little quirky and comfortable place to return to after the day in Rome.
