“Loved hotel and location!”
5 of 5 bubbles Reviewed September 22, 2013

My husband and I traveled with another couple to Rome in Sept. and stayed at Hotel San Anselmo for 2 days before a cruise and 1 night afterwards. We booked deluxe rooms both times and couldn't have been happier. The hotel itself is beautifully decorated and each room is different. We were lucky enough to get rooms with balconies both times. Our first room was 825 and had a small balcony overlooking the street at the front of the hotel. Our second room was 830, which had a very large balcony overlooking a quiet, residential street. The bathroom in this room was very small, but that was a minor concern to us. We had requested rooms with showers and I think the bathrooms with tubs/showers were a bit bigger. If that's a concern for you, just request a larger bathroom. The other couple had larger bathrooms with double sinks, but they didn't have a balcony.

We loved the location of this hotel because it was in a quiet area on Aventine Hill, which was nice after spending our days in the more congested areas. We ate dinner each night in Testaccio, which is a short walk and had numerous restaurants to choose from. It's not like other areas of Rome where restaurants are abundant, but they were very helpful at the front desk in giving us recommendations and making reservations for us.

We were able to walk most places from the hotel and covered a lot of ground our first day - from Aventine Hill to the Spanish Steps and back. For those not as fond of walking, the taxis were reasonably priced. We didn't take the metro or buses so I can't comment on that.

The hotel had a good breakfast each morning with an assortment of breads, meats, cheeses, cereals, eggs, and what I thought was really good coffee. They also offered a bar at night with wine and other beverages and had plenty of seating outside in their courtyard.

The staff at Hotel San Anselmo were wonderful - friendly and helpful. I highly recommend this hotel if you're looking for a quiet place, a little off the beaten path, in beautiful surroundings. I wish we could've stayed longer!

My wife and i stayed at the hotel for two nights as part of my 40th birthday celebrations and after much deliberation when booking we chose the room named Mille et Una Notte as it looked very nicely designed with a free-standing roll top bath, separate bathroom with walk in shower and a balcony overlooking the square. To be honest all of the rooms on the website looked nice so we were spoilt for choice and we were not disappointed on arrival, the room is beautifully decorated and furnished with very nice bedding, towels etc. Compared to some of the centrally located hotels for the standard of accomodation this is a really well priced hotel. The hotel is situated in a nice quiet leafy suburb but within easy walking distance of the historic centre and the metro at Pyramid which enables you to explore further out quite quickly and cheaply. The staff were extremely friendly sending us Prosecco, strawberries and chocolates when my wife mentioned it was my birthday in passing. The breakfast served in the lovely garden terrace has a great choice is geat and really enjoyable setting us up nicely for the day. There are other nice places to sit and relax around the hotel. I really can't recommend this hotel any higher.

I stayed at the San Anselmo for three nights last week with my boyfriend and my parents and it was everything that we were hoping for. We booked a car through the hotel to collect us from the airport and a charming lady was waiting for us on arrival and drove us to the lovely Aventino Hill location. Our arrival was warm and welcoming with refreshing drinks and even a bottle of Prosseco and strawberries delivered to our room. The service and staff are wonderful. Our rooms were great, well presented and my parents had a glorious room overlooking the courtyard garden whilst we looked over the piazza. The bath in my parents room was amazing. The breakfast buffet was varied and bountiful and we had lovely sunny breakfasts in the garden. And long evenings and after dinner drinks too. If only they had a restaurant it would be more than perfect! This hotel is beautiful and the location, just far enough from the City to feel tranquil, but close enough to everything. Taxi rides to central Rome are 10-15 euros and well worth the convenience. Just a short walk to the City Tour bus stops near the Circus Maximus and the Roman Forum and Colosseum close enough. The hotel have several restaurant recommendations within a short stroll, we particularly enjoyed enjoyed coffee at The Depot at the bottom of the hill at some nice places along Via Albania. Would go back to this hotel time and time again. Don't forget to look through the keyhole!

From the minute we arrived i was impressed. The location of the hotel is peaceful and surrounding areas are very green. It is within walking distance of all attraction, vatican 45 mins, colloseum 15 mins, panatheon 25 mins. In side the hotel was very cool and has a really chilled atmosphere. Breakfast is served in the garden and has something for everyone. There is a bar with seating inside and out. I am very fussy with hotels and spend hours on tripadvisor and could not fault this. Its just beautiful!!!!

I travelled to Rome for a conference and stayed in the hotel as it was one of the nearby hotels recommended by the organizer. The hotel turned out to be very good. I enjoyed the calmness of the area and as other reviewers have said the breakfast in the garden is a very good way to start the day. The room itself was not big as the kingsize bed is quite imposing; however, the bathroom with the sunken bath/shower is something out of the ordinary. The staff were aslo very helpful and friendly and you never get the feeling that you are in a crowded hotel. Very well worth the stay.

We absolutely loved this hotel. The attention to detail was fabulous - everywhere you looked was beautiful. There were some lovely touches like a beautiful big chess set out in the bar room downstairs for early evening distractions. The breakfast options were plentiful - I stuck to fresh fruit and coffee, both of which were delicious.

Walking distance to the Colosseum (about 15mins).

Staff very helpful generally.

He is so nice and friendly, he made us felt so comfortable staying at this hotel and provided us with lots of information about best places to visit in Tuscany.
