“Great Location”

We stayed at this hotel and I will definitely recommend. The location is perfect! It's walking distance to Spanish Steps - one of the landmark in Rome. It's also located in the Central area where you can just walk along and pass by to the shopping area, name all the brands - LV, Channel, Prada, Gucci etc etc. and most of all - the owner and staffs are very friendly. During our stay until we check out . One of the staff even carried our luggages all the way to the taxi stand. All worth your money, rooms are clean and bathroom is spacious.

One close friend stayed at this hotel one time, she liked and came back with her mom...and after that she recommended me to go too. So i trusted in her and NOT in Tripadvisor bad comments. And i DID THE RIGHT THING because i loved this hotel!

LOCATION is perfect! and reason to come back if i have the lucky to go to Rome again!. I walked to the corso road for shopping, spanish steps, to the vatican, fontana di trevi, piazza Navona...it was so central that i could get to everywhere walking!!

I went last July 2010 with my mom and stayed 3 nights at the superior doble room and it was perfect!

The entrance can be scary when you arrive for the first time, the lift is noisy etc but when you get to the 2nd floor where is the hotel everything changes! The owner is fantastic, a super nice italian girl that gives you all kind of tips (even the close you must use to enter to churches), breakfast includes croissants =) fruit.

I stayed at the superior doble standard room and i recommend it as the price is really good. The rooms are just right to sleep, plasma tv and a simple bathroom--

Again :) great experience!!

This hotel does not look like the pictures shown online. We had to climb 2 steep flights of stairs (elevator not in order), were led down hall and some stairs which we had to "duck" to clear the low archway which led us to room #15, marked by masking tape on the door. Mop, bucket, vacuum, etc. outside of room. 4 beds in room (requested one queen or king), cramped, light fixtures did not work and outlets coming out of wall, missing light bulbs, bathroom with missing tiles everywhere, toilet positioned by sink and had to "sit" facing doorway, stunk of sewer + exhaust from cars in alley below window. No air conditioning. My husband had just had his wallet stolen on the subway and after an entire day at the police station and US Embassy cancelling credit cards, getting a new passport, etc., were stuck with this hotel. Explained we wanted to leave and try to fly back early, but were forced by front desk staff to pay for 2 nights, even though we only stayed one night. I wrote them 5-6 times after returning to the USA and requested our 2nd night fee refunded and received a very curt letter stating they MIGHT be able to give us credit for another night stay. We will never stay here again and do not recommend anyone else stay here. Bad coffee, melba toast and yogurt for "breakfast". Rude staff. kdm

Our room at Hotel Marcus was absolutely terrible. The lights did not work properly, the shower tiles were broken, the bathroom smelled like a sewer, and the door that led to the balcony, which was shared by other guests, was broken and would not lock. Some strange noise from the air conditioning unit would routinely kick on at night, which disrupted our sleep. Even though the location is excellent, I would absolutely NOT stay at the Hotel Marcus again. The hotel manager was not very friendly, and he actually tried to charge us an additional 100 euros for our prepaid room. This was the worst hotel experience of our lives, and we will not return to Hotel Marcus when we travel to Rome again.

When you arrive at the hotel you'll probably get the feeling that you just got punk'd. The hotel is actually at the second floor of a really old building. I mean, really old. So it's uphills from there.
The hotel itself looks really good and if you don't arrive too late (or too early) you'll probably get to know Aurora. Aurora is the receptionist that stays there most of the time and if there's good things to be said about the place, it's all because of her. She will talk to you, help you with any problems you may have at the hotel and even help you with your trip, if you have doubts as to where to go and other things.
So, after you meet Aurora you go to the rooms. If you've booked a superior room, you'll probably get to one that looks really good, is not too big, but will give you plenty of confort. If you've booked a standard room, you'll have to go downstairs (and look out for your head, cause the ceiling is really low and i've hit my head there like 5 times") and you'll see a room that is neither too big or too small, but definitely looks old.
My experience with the rooms were not without problem. Both rooms we've booked (my family and I) had the same problem: the shower leaked through the wall, which ended up wetting the floor and giving the room a strong smell of mold. So we decided to talk to Aurora and the immediately changed our rooms to other ones that had no problems (and she also called the plumber, so the rooms are probably fixed by now).
The Wi-Fi will work inside the rooms (it worked inside mine, at least) and the breakfast is good - nothing special to it, you may just as well buy something at the supermarket that is really close to the hotel or eat somewhere else.
And as far as location goes, this is probably one of the best hotel you can get in rome. Is very central, close to everything, so you won't have to worry about taxis, buses or anything, cause there won't be a huge amount of walking to do to get to anywhere. And if you intend to do some shopping in Rome, it is really close to Via del Corso (one of the main shopping streets) and not a lot of walking to get to the other 2 shopping streets which I forgot the names.

Room size was misleading. Staff was very misleading and not very friendly. Internet slow! See picture of rest room. Horrible experience.

Quiet, Comfy, Cozy hotel. Yes, the room was small, but who goes to the center of Rome to hang out int he hotel. Perfect location and the price is right. Would definately stay again in the future. Hotel staff could share basic information, but gave us all we needed.
