“Nice but noisy, great location”
Reviewed July 2, 2014

The location is awesome, just steps from the train station and the Spanish steps. For every nice feature there was a nice negative. The rooms in my opinion are as pictured, we had a corner room the sixth floor with plenty of space and a huge bathroom. The breakfast was fine and their restaurant had really good pizza, just steps outside the door, great people watching from tables lining the streets. I wouldn't stay again b/c of the noise factor. There is a bar right across the street and it was super loud until close to 4am. The front desk staff was nice and worked hard, but don't trust the free massage deal! Strange service and very demanding with tips.

I am writing this at 5.30 am and I have been awake since 2.30am. It is impossible to sleep. My room is subject to the persistent noise of the air-conditioning plant outside the window. I travel a lot on business and came equipped with earplugs, they don't even drown out the noise. The photos of the hotel and the name, are a complete misrepresentation. Tired, old and not very clean. I'm looking forward to getting on the plane in a couple of hours as it will be quieter and I have some chance of catching up on sleep.

Room Tip: Book a different hotel

Certainly not a 4 star hotel and totally overpriced for what it offers. The rooms are small and they do not seem clean enough. There is a lot of noise from the street and the restaurants. Also the service is unacceptable. I wanted to order a coffee to drink outsite in the restaurant and when I ordered it at the reception, the receptionist has asked me to go and place my order in the kitchen...imagine...if I was not the client, she might ask me to prepare the coffee myself!

I went there with my partner and mother sharing a double room (303) for 2 nights.

The minute we arrived we all commented in sync: this is certainly not a 4 star hotel. We travel a LOT and we know what warrants 4 stars. This was about a 3 star. Inside, the standard is more like a motel dressed up as high end. Nothing works properly, the carpet is stained - badly stained - I'm talking big spills have happened at some point and not been cleaned up.

Our toilet stopped working for no reason on night 1, we reported it to reception at 6.30am and it took them until 3.30pm to fix it. No toilet for a whole day!

The skyline bar was closed off.

The health spa was more of a temporary setup in a space that looked half-renovated.

The wifi was also constantly dropping in and out for 15 minutes at a time which is so frustrating when you're rushing to book vatican tickets and get there before the crowd.

Location - great
Noise - fine (our room was on the top level and farthest point from the stairs)
Service/reception staff - great
Hotel - crap.

We were thinking really, we should ask for a part refund for all the issues we had, but in the end couldn't be bothered.

But to top off our experience - on check-out, we thought we just had to hand the key back since we had already paid in full via booking.com, but the receptionist said no, we had to pay in full again and the original amount could take up to 15 days to be refunded back. So we left nearly $800 out of pocket because of their ridiculously substandard arrangement with Booking.com

Is that even legal??

Holidays shouldn't be stressful - pick another hotel.

Room Tip: If you absolutely have to stay here, maybe choose a room high up and far away from the stairs. And a...

The Good: The location is fantastic, cannot be beat and the staff is very friendly and helpful. For a city like Rome, the rooms were pretty nice; decently appointed, clean and nicely decorated.

The Bad: We had issues with our bathroom and my friend who had previously stayed there had a problem with her bathroom. Our toilet was iffy and sometimes just didn't want to flush. It did not slow us down particularly but when you start taking bets on how many times you have to push the flush before it actually does it is worth mentioning. The spa - just don't bother. We got a free massage each day for 20 minutes and it really wasn't worth it even thought it was free. The 10 Euro. manicure was about on par with playing beauty shop with your favorite 5 year old.

The indifferent: Free breakfast, not great food, but free and Rome is expensive. The staff's restaurant recommendations. We were hoping they would steer us to some less touristy places but they were hit or miss quite frankly. Some very good and some not so great you're just as well to strike out on your own.

This is meant to be GOOD review not a bad one. Americans traveling in Europe particularly Southern Europe need to be mindful that hotel star ratings do not mean the same thing as they do in St. Louis or Chicago. The bathrooms are mostly not going to be American style, the elevator might be tiny forcing you to take the stairs, the spa isn't going to be the Ritz. As they say, when in Rome . . .

I never write reviews but, after our stay in this hotel, I think people should know some facts before booking this a room in this hotel. This place is not royal nor luxury and it definitely isn't a palace. It is very hard to get some sleep here because of the busy restaurants around the hotel, garbage collectors that come 6:30 in the morning, delivery trucks, people yelling to each other.. The hotel claims on their website that the walls are sound proof. Highly doupt it, but the windows surtainly aren't. There's just one piece of glass as a so called window. It feels like you would be sleeping on the street itself.
The noice isn't a problem only during the night. From about 2pm to 10pm there is a "mucisian" playing "music" outside on the street. It's actually more like a never ending loop of all the cheesy French accordin songs. The rooms are otherwise also no where near like the pictures; the bed isn't an actual bed but one of those foaldable ones with a single matress with out any pad. You can feel the strings in your butt. The pictures of the bathrooms just make me laugh.
In addition to the noicyness, the spa is also a bit of a joke. Wouldn't recommend a pedicure or a manicure since the lady there is in serious need of glasses. She's nice but half blind.
I did complain about all of these faults during our stay. They did change the matress, but it was still a cheep plain one. As for the noice, they said that there's nothing they can do about anything so in otherwords they know the hotel is a miserable place to stay in but market it anyways.
I consider myself as a fairly though skinned traveller. I don't understand people who review a place as terrible because of a plinking fire alarm or a taxi strike or if the reseption dosen't answer right away when you call but this place is just a total sham and waist of money.

Room Tip: Go to another hotel

We stayed in this hotel before easter vacation for 3 days- The first 2 days were from 13-15 april and the 3rd one was on the 17th of april.

Location: Perfect location in Rome. It was just 1 min walk away from the spanish steps. 3 mins away from piazza del popolo- 7 min from fontana di trevi, piaza di navona.. 10 min from the coleseo.. We barely knew the touristic sites in rome so we were very pleased to realize that they were all very near to our hotel. I addition, the hotel is located in a street where there are about 5 to 6 restaurants which kept it a busy street.

Hotel -Staff: The staff were very nice and helpful, they guided us whenever we asked for help.
The hotel itself is very small but i guess it is just similar to most of the hotels in rome.
The rooms were clean and had a mini bar. The 1st 2 days of our stay our room was on the 2nd floor which was not renovated but still looked modern The last day our room was on the 1st floor which was new , i would recommend people to check in on the rooms of the 1st floor.

Offers: We were offer by the hotel a free message for every day of our stay, after finishing our messages we also had foot massages in a special machine which was relaxing and helpful especially after a long day of walking in town.

Breakfast: It was fair, had everything in it from cheese to, croissant, jam, bacon , salami, eggs. However i don't eat meat so i barely had mozarella cheese & fruits . I would recommend the hotel to add more vegetables and cheese to their breakfast.

At the end of our stay were given a loyalty card, which will allow us to have free mini bar for the next time we stay at the hotel , and other favors we cld get for each visit.
