A pretty basic hotel but in a good location within walking distance of everything there is to see in Rome, withouth beeing to near the most touristic parts. Cleaned roomPwith new sheets every day, air condition (a bit noicy though), good but small breakfast at the nice roof terrace and helpfull staff.

Priceworthy and location made the stay at Carmel Hotel pleasant.

we've been in this hotel at the begining of july and we enjoyed very much our staying there. the room we stayed in was large and convenient, very good air condition. there is a very nice veranda, the breakfast is served there.
about breakfast - they give small frozen roles heated in a microwave, they are not tasty. i would expected fresh roles, it seems to me that it should'nt be a big problem in a city like Rome, especialy where there are many bakeries and even a market near by.
except this the hotel and its enviroment are very good and most of the receptionists are willing to help.

Room Tip: we stayed at room no. 5 that has a direct access to the balcony.

we stayed here early june 2012. the room was kind of ugly and worn out looking -seemed sort of clean but not extremely clean (bed spread was a bit stained and we found open soap in the bathroom). had a decent breakfast (basically just buns, jam/butter tea/coffee, and OJ) and pretty friendly staff who helped us arrange airport transport. it had a fridge which was nice. location was excellent and very safe feeling for walking around at night. we walked to pretty much everything in Rome attraction-wise with here as our base. lots of restaurants and bars nearby. good selection of books to borrow on their shelves. nice patio off the breakfast room to sit in at night. quiet room. staff speaks English well.

We really liked this place (super nice owners and staff!) and the breakfast on a lovely patio is a nice touch! Rooms are clean, as advertised.

Would totally recommend this place for a couple traveling on a budget. Very reasonably priced, and a short walk to the heart of Rome (and Vatican City)!

Two thumbs up!

Room Tip: Very nice budget hotel!!!!

I stayed here in late May for three nights. I chose the single-bed room (and single beds in Europe are just that!) so it was tiny, but hey-it's Rome. They have other, larger rooms as well. Breakfast is included and they have a decent-sized and comfortable breakfast room/lounging room with some comfortable reading chairs. They also have a spacious outdoor patio which is wonderful for breakfast or just relaxing later in the day.

The location is excellent, just down the street from some local restaurants and a small square where you can people-watch. A few more blocks away is a slightly more touristy area in another, larger square (Trastevere Square) where the main attraction is the church of Santa Maria. Restaurants that look in on that square are more expensive than the ones on the side streets so poke around if you want more options.

I walked everywhere in Rome from Hotel Carmel--to the Vatican and a nearby spacious park on the Hotel Carmel side of the Tiber, and on another day, to the other Rome attractions (the Coliseum etc.) on the other side of the Tiber . What is great about this place is it is close to everything but away from the main and crowded tourist areas on the other side of the Tiber.

If you need a 4 or 5-star hotel and need to sleep in the same neighbourhood as where hordes of tourists wander, this is not for you. But if you're looking for a clean, well-located place with friendly, helpful staff with local flavour, you can't go wrong. By the way, they do have internet, at least in the main breakfast/lounging area, which also worked in my room which was right beside that area. Not sure if it works in other rooms. But it is there. Also, make sure you wander up the hill behind the hotel. You'll discover some lovely homes, monuments to Garibaldi, and also a spectacular fountain and an open view of the city.

This smal hotel, is placed in the real heart of Rome. At walking distance fro all the best sighseeing of the city and, at the same time, close to the best part of "Roman Movida": Trastevere.

I really reccomend this hotel for couple and tourist. The rooms are fair, with very good breakfast in a nice terrace.

It's not a 5 stars, but the general enviroment is very friendly.

Room Tip: I have seen only 2 double rooms, and was identical. The zone is noisy due to the night life. But wit...

I've spent three nights in this comfortable and nice hotel for a work holiday and I found it perfect for me. The hotel is small, 10 rooms, but it has all what you need. The bathroom and the rooms are clean, the staff is friendly and they answer to you to every question you have, helping you to find the right bus to go wherever or a nice restaurant or just a fast tasty pizza. The area is the best in Rome: Trastevere. It's THE area, but the Carmel Hotel is in a small street, so you can just enjoy Rome without the noise of the center.
