Just got back from staying at The Cardinal with a group of 32 people. Well, I shouldn't say that since 6 didn't even bother to stay after they saw their rooms. I've been to Rome 25x, so I know that Roman hotels are not exactly up to American standards or what they look like on websites. However, what a disappointment this place was! The rooms were horrible, albeit they are working on remodeling the hotel (you hear the loud banging begin at 6:30 AM). Everyone of our rooms flooded when we took showers - the bar prices were astronomical - the noise from both inside and outside was unbearable - the rooms were more like monastic cells with uncomfortable beds and dim lighting. Four stars??? Somebody is crazy - the only good thing about the place was its location. By the way, the Vatican chairs look like something from a Barbie dollhouse. Do yourself a favor and stay away (at least, until they finish the rennovation).
