My wife and I have stayed at this hotel twice in the last 4 years (2010, 2013) and this is the first and only place I would look to book if I were going to be in Rome. Our room in the Dependance was really comfortable, spacious and the A/C and lift worked great - these are the things I value on a trip to Rome in summer. In my opinion, this hotel is in the best location in Rome (near Campo di Fiore) as it is a 3 minute walk from where the #8 tram drops you off and you can literally walk to every major place you'd like to go if you've got good shoes. About a 30 minute walk to Vatican, 20 minutes to Colosseum, 10 minutes to wedding cake, Forum, Piazza Navona,Pantheon, and a main bus stop/taxi areas from which you can get everywhere. Book this place if you can, you won't be disappointed with this hotel. Just make sure you visit Roscioli Forno (the shop right next door to Dependance entrance) for what might be some of the best pizza in all of italy.

Room Tip: Don't be put off by reviews that reference being "put" the Dependance. It is literally...

It is very close to many attractions. I loved the rooftop area where I relaxed and read. The breakfast was outstanding. The room was clean and pleasant. I appreciated the service and friendliness of the staff. I would stay there again.

After a very bad experience at Caligola resort, Smeraldo was a breath of fresh air and tranquility. It was just what me and my husband wanted - a quiet, clean place with a good breakfast and nice people at the reception.

Room Tip: Choose the rooms further from the street if you want a quiet place. We stayed in 204 and it was grea...

More than 15 years ago, we found the perfect hotel in Rome -- the Smeraldo - and we stay there every time we visit. We love the Campo dei Fiori neighborhood -- a short walk to Trastevere, Navona, Pantheon. Close to bus stop. Nice neighborhood restaurants and shopping. The hotel is clean and comfortable and the air conditioning never fails. Staff are great.

Hotel is in a fantastic location with in easy walk to all major sights. Cannot be beaten for location. We walked everywhere , close to river which has out door restaurants on the bank during summer months only I think. Hotel rooms are clean and well serviced . Ours had no view but you don't spend much time there any way. Staff a generally helpful but you need to push a little for answers. No tour desk but ask them to arrange tours to places like Tivoli gardens and they will do this. We stayed 4 nights but only had breakfast once as it was very average. We walked to a square only a block away and had breakfast there and watched as the stall holders set up daily market. As other reviewers have said Location is what this hotel is all about.

I strongly second the review by A D S. This is an adequate hotel in an excellent location. It is close to Campo di Fiori, Piazza Navona, Pantheon, Trevi, Spagna, and Largo Argentina from which you can catch a bus to anywhere in Rome. From Termini station, a quick ride on bus 64 or 40 (watch your pockets) to the Santa Maria della Valle stop or Largo Argentina. While close to all these locations, the hotel is at the intersection of two very quiet streets, and the rooms are well insulated with typical Italian air conditioning and well sealed windows, therefore very quiet. Breakfast is typical hotel fare, fine for a quick bite as you are leaving for a busy day of sight seeing. Staff is accommodating if not social, and the price is right.

I highly recommend this hotel. The location was perfect...between Campo di Fiore & Piazza Navona & an easy walk to both the Pantheon & Trevi Fountain. The room, tho' small, was very clean & comfortable. But the thing that really made our stay most enjoyable was the staff. The front desk personnel was probably the most helpful I've ever encountered. They couldn't do enough for us which certainly more than contributed to a wonderful trip to "The Eternal City".

Room Tip: Just tell them what you want & need!!!
