My wife and I stayed at the Smeraldo for two nights. The hotel is good value for money, serves a great buffet breakfast and above all, it is in the heart of Rome if you are sightseeing. We stayed in a small double room which was very clean. We would definitely return to this hotel.

Smeraldo Roma is a 3 star hotel in a wonderful location near Campo de' Fiore and I have stayed here 4 times in the last couple of years. The rooms are clean and tiny and the bathrooms even smaller, but the breakfast is good and served with a smile and the housekeeping staff keep the rooms and public spaces shining. The gentlemen who work at the front desk are always a bit quiet but if asked are very helpful with dinner suggestions or transportation needs. Walter, Claudio and Eugenio were very patient with our many questions and did their best to make our stay comfortable. Thank you gentlemen!!

Unfortunately have to write this; I was even surprised that I didnt read it in previous reviews.
At the beginning positive - yes, the location of this hotel is great, really convenient to reach all the places worth seeing.
The day we arrived it was my sisters Birthday so I previously nicely asked the hotel to give us the nicest room within the price range. However they didnt pay any attention to that at all and we were given room on first floor. It was sooooooooo noisy! I can understand that there comes a noise from the street but such loudness I havent experienced anywhere! The window is such a poor quality that it even didnt seem big of a difference - opened or closed. And even worse was the noise from nearest rooms - when somebody flushes toilet or uses any water system - then the tubes or water boiler or whatever makes this crazy noise for about 10-15 minutes! And could hear everything else.... I have never been in hotel which such a poor sound protection! Maybe other floors are better however first floor is terrible and will never ever come to this hotel again.
Breakfast was rather poor as well, but ok; I didnt expect much anyway. So I dont complain about that.
Positive - free wifi; and since you log in for the first time it works all your stay (not like many other hotels which ask you to log in again every hour).

We stayed at Smeraldo hotel in August-September 2012 for a few nights. The room was wonderful. And we were amazed at the bathroom - very big and convenient :) There was good choice of food at breakfsts.
Even though the staff at the desk were middle-aged Italian men, who didn't express much will to talk in English, help with directions or give any other helpful info, there were take-away leaflets and brochures, containing useful info anyway. Also the Hotel is in the very centre of Rome, so we could explore the historical city centre only going on foot, no need to take any kind of transport. We'd definitely recommend this place to stay.

We were at Hotel Smeraldo in June 2011. Really a good value and excellent location in Rome in the old city near Campo dei Fiori. The rooms were very clean, rather small, bathroom small too but nice - however with the city of Rome exploding all around you - who needs such a spacious room? You're there to "live and enjoy" glorious Rome, which is happening all around the hotel. Everything is in walking distance, which has value. Air conditioning functioned fine-not "ice cold" as in the USA, but absolutely OK.

We used the hotel's airport pick up service - that was an excellent choice since Rome in this area is a convoluted maze of twisting streets; wonderful! Breakfast was fine, adequate protein: meats and cheese, coffee, juices, cappuccino, fruit etc.

The staff was very helpful giving tips and tricks, advice, answering all our questions.

Our room was right above the entrance, across the street from 2 restaurants which means we got the loud conversations from the people in the restaurants late at night. Advice: if you want a quieter room request one which maybe faces the inner court (but then of course no view - but who cares; you are there to be "outside in" Rome)

Use the internet to book museums, art galleries, Collesium etc in advance !! Rome gets crowded - so plan in advance !!!

We would use this hotel again.

Room Tip: If you want quiet - request a room on the inner courtyard or not across from the restaurants. The st...

This three-star hotel is located on an alleyway two blocks from the Campo di Fiore, which offers a daily open market. It's five minutes from the Pantheon, ten from the Piazza Navona, five from the Largo Argentina where one can catch trolleys and buses everywhere. In short: just where you'd want to be to get out and see the old city. Floors are marble; bathroom walls are, as well. Everything kept sparkling clean. Rooms small but perfectly adequate, with a little balcony for taking the sun (or, on my visit, taking the rain and cold wind!). Breakfast buffet nice, and included. Folks at the front desk very helpful. Internet access free. I will definitely choose this place when I return to Rome. After five nights there it felt like home.

Room Tip: Rooms in the main building are perhaps more interesting than those in the Dependance, which is aroun...

This hotel was an awesome experience for both my girlfriend and I. We stayed one night here and could not have asked for any more for the 79 Euros we paid. The rooms were fine (although on the smaller side) and the continental breakfast was an added amenity. Fantastic location; walking distance to most all of the major tourist sites (lest the Vatican). Overall, I would definitely recommend staying here!
