“Good Location, Nice Hotel, Poor Internet”
Reviewed October 6, 2012

We stayed at the Albergo Santa Chiara twice. The location is top notch. The hotel is attractive. The rooms ware pleasant, clean and well finished. Breakfast was decent. But the Internet was inadequate, despite the charge or 10 Euros for 3 days. It was only available in common areas, and during busy times frequently cut out, or was temporarily unavailable. And, what is just as bad, the hotel staff simply did not care.

This is a wonderful hotel - my husband and I loved our room, and the staff was very helpful. It is in a great location, and if you watch out for Rome taxi drivers who will charge tourists whatever they think they can get away with (which is anything if you can't argue in Italian!), you will love this hotel and city. The breakfast is very generous, the elevators a bit of an experience (!), and the reception staff makes great suggestions and gives directions kindly. Highly recommend it!

Room Tip: If you don't mind two elevators, the fourth floor where we stayed was lovely and quiet!

My husband and I returned to Albergo Santa Chiara for the second time. We stayed for three nights in September 2012. The location of this hotel is perfect as it is central to all of the sights we wanted to see. It is right behind the Pantheon. We enjoyed the breakfast, which is included in the price of the room. Our room was very clean and very comfortable, as well as quiet. The staff at the front desk was pleasant and helpful. We highly recommend Albergo Santa Chiara when you plan your visit to Rome.

I booked this hotel based on these reviews, and so far am bitterly disappointed. We barely rated a greeting on our arrival, had to return to the desk to seek our passports, and were given absolutely no information about the hotel: breakfast? Wifi? Neighborhood? A simple welcome? A smile? Nothing. All of guests I saw today, I including my family, were treated as interruptions. Not even a city map and a pat on the head. I still have no idea where or when breakfast can be had, and there is no hotel information in the room.

I also read about renovated rooms -- not this one. Our room is UGLY and cramped, with old 1960s furnishings, a musty carpet, an antique hair dryer, and an air conditioning vent that blows straight down onto the bed, guaranteed to make us sick. This may have been a storage room at one time. Have I made my concerns known? To whom?

Perhaps a different staff will be at work tomorrow and will actually make us feel welcome. As of right now, I will leave and not return, and I will make sure my friends know of my experience.

We found this hotel through our travel agent. Upon arrival our room wasn't ready. They served us cappucino with biscotti on the outside terrace, while we waited. The location was great! The room was large and squeeky clean. The hotel staff was excellent. I highly reccommend this hotel and will return there again.

I found booking a hotel in Rome a daunting task - took a chance and booked this hotel based on the reviews we read. We had 5 days in Rome as a follow up to a cruise. The location is fantasitic, literally right next to the Pantheon - the area has limited car access which is heaven as it keeps the noise and dust down. Our room was quiet, the bedding wonderful, the AC perfect (so nice at the end of a long hot day), some English TV, the breakfast was good, and the staff extremely helpful and professional. Having 5 days, we compared this location with others and found it really great for access to all the sites plus the reduced noise factor was a major importance. Elevators are small, but that is Europe. We stayed on the 4th floor which we hiked to but we like any exercise. Our room opened up to small interior courtyard (no balcony), it was a triple with a comfy sofa bed (set a little back from the main area) that worked well for our 16 year old. It was spotless as well. Cab ride to airport is about 50 Euros (we chose a cab for a family of 3) and airport is about 35 minutes away. The hotel can you direct you to the small, inexpensive electric buses to get to some of the sites but we walked to most places except for Vatican and Borghese Villa Museum. Very good restaurants in area too. I would definitely stay there again.

Very centrally located -- 2 minutes to the Pantheon.

Really nice restaurants in the area too.

Room was clean and quiet. Had a balcony which we didn't use -- it was way too hot to be sitting outside.

Highly recommended.
