“Air conditioning not working”
Reviewed September 30, 2011

I spent two nights at this hotel, in a perfectly adequate and clean single room, probably quite recently renovated. An 'internal' room, it was utterly quiet though had no view - in fact looked out onto a brick platform and wall covered with plastic leaves two feet away! This did not bother me in the least but what did was the lack of a working air-conditioning unit in Rome with 32 degrees celsius. I had purposely chosen this hotel for its location and the air-conditioning. There are others in the area I could have chosen. I complained each time (often) I passed reception and was repeatedly told that the technician was working on the problem. Both nights the temperature in my room was 26 degrees, whereas outside it was 18. I did not want to open the window for security reasons.
Apart from this the hotel was wonderfully central and the staff, with a possible exception in the reception area, were polite and helpful, if not effusive. The crockery at breakfast had had a dishwasher problem and some of it was a bit gritty, but avoidable. Breakfast itself was quite satisfactory. There were many regular and obviously valued Italian guests. Downstairs in the public areas the air-con worked very well!
If the management had made some gesture of goodwill when it came to producing my bill I would not be writing this. Of course they did not. Next time I may go elsewhere.

Room Tip: Rooms not on the street are very quiet. It is possible that you get a better service by telephoning...

We stayed at the Albergo Santa Chiara due to the positive reviews from Trip Advisor. We left after one night. For $350 a night, it was the most minimal room we had in our two week tour of Italy. The location is excellent, but the rooms were very small, everything fake, and very little resemblance to the pictures. There is simply no reason to pay that kind of money for what you get. Quite simply, it is a total rip-off. We went to Navona Piazza and paid a bit more, but got a whole lot more. I simply am amazed at some of the comments.

GREAT location, very helpful staff, good breakfast... If you are looking for quaint this is not it, but the location could not be better, you are in the center of everything, the Pantheon, Campo dei Fiori, Piazza Navona, etc... The rooms are a little spartan, but very functional...

Room Tip: Request a street view versus the wall of an adjacent building...

Albergo Santa Chiara is in a wonderful location in Rome. It is walking distance to major sites -- only steps away from the Pantheon. It is 5 minutes from Piazza Navona and many restaurants. The hotel is clean, nice size rooms, well priced. It has a nice lobby to sit and have a glass of wine at the end of a long day. Breakfast, which is included, is very nice. I would definitely stay here again.

Excellent location (can't think of a better one), within walking distance of all the major sights in Rome. The hotel was clean and well managed, Federica (concierge) was extremely friendly and helpful. Breakfast was better than all other hotels in Italy as it actually had some salty options (hard boiled eggs, cheese, etc.) in addition to croissants, pastries, etc. There is a renovated wing to the hotel where the rooms have hardwood floors and are more modern, although smaller. Bathrooms in both wings were new and very clean. Wifi service spotty at times and may not work in some rooms. In all we were very pleased and would definitely stay again!

We just returned from 2 1/2 weeks in Italy and the last 5 nights were in Rome. What a great location...steps from the Pantheon, 2 mins walk from Sant Eustachio - best coffee, 4 min walk from best gelato San Crispino. 5 min walk to Piazza Navona. Right behind the Pantheon on a quiet street away from the crowds. Breakfast was good and they'll make you a cappucino if asked:-) Front desk staff a bit brusque but Fredrica was helpful. Being independant travellers we did not need musch assistance, so not an issue. The view of the top of the Pantheon can be seen around the corner - top of stairs at the church on Piazza Minerva, 1 block away. Enjoy!

Room Tip: We asked for a large quiet room...and were not disappointed. The air conditioning was not as effecti...

rome is not cheap, so for EUR85/night im very pleased with the hotel. like other reviewers have mentioned, it's very well located - just behind the pantheon, short walk to torres argentine bus/tram stop. room is quite spacey with balcony, bathroom is clean, staffs are helpful, wifi is available (albeit not free), breakfast is more than nice (it provides salami, buffalo mozarella, not only yoghurt & cereal like what normally other hotels provide.. upon request the capuccino is great too). it's highly recommended.
