“Great location for seeing Rome.”
Reviewed August 21, 2011

We stayed at the Abruzzi for 3 nights. We are a family with two young children and booked a triple room and paid for an extra bed. We booked directly with the hotel a few months ago and received an early booking discount (I think it was called The Early Bird discount). We requested a room on the fourth floor after reading Trip Adviser reviews that that would make it a quieter stay.

The room was a actually two bedrooms with a bathroom. They called it a suite. Room no 401 and 402. It was at the end of the corridor and on the 4th floor. Tea and coffee making facilities, mini bar and tv (Itallian).

The room looked out on the Piazza del Rotunda which is where the Pantheon is located, which is free to get into and dates back to Roman times. Breakfast was at the cafe across the square.

The hotel does not have a bar or restaurant in it. It has a very small entrance lobby and then you walk up the stairs to the first floor, which is where the lift goes from or you can just walk to the top.

It was perfect for us.

Room Tip: Request high floor like the 4th floor as it is quieter.

This is one of only a handful of hotels that overlook the Pantheon. Other reviews on Tripadvisor warned that they take your money and then set you up in a sister property down a side street from the Pantheon itself. Wary of this, when I booked the hotel I specifically reserved a room in the main hotel overlooking the Pantheon piazza. When we arrived the receptionist tried to force us into the sister property and I refused showing him my reservation with specific instructions about staying in the main hotel. He then said that it was full. I stated that it could not be full as they had taken my reservation understanding that we required to stay in the main hotel. He then stated it was not full but the only available room had a water problem in the bathroom. When I asked what sort of water problem, he didn’t know. At this point he suddenly forgot how to speak English and left us with the porter who explained the only option was to use the sister property. When we got there, there was no electricity i.e. no lights (and you have to walk up a flight of stairs and down a long pitch black corridor by touch to get to the rooms), no AC, no refrigerator, no working room safe. It was a nightmare. My strong sense was that the staff were lying and probably go through this routine with guests on a fairly frequent basis. Avoid this hotel.

Room Tip: Make it absolutely clear that you want to stay in the main hotel - even then don't expect to

It terms of sightseeing, it seems like Rome was built around hotel Abruzzi ! To get more central, the hotel would have to move from across the Pantheon to on top of it. Excellent location! What the hotel lacks in size, it makes up with service and staff knowledge. Got more insights and history from the staff than I did from the tour guides. Great value. Will definitely stay there when I am in Rome again.

I found this hotel to be very central in Rome and the staff were amazing.
As it was my frist stop, I had a lot of questions which were all answered promptly and in a friendly manner.
The staff at the hotel were very helpful, which is something I did not find in other Italian hotels where the staff seemed disinterested.
The hotel were able to let us check in quite early which we needed as we had just gotten off a 25 hour trip from Sydney.
Will definitely stay here again.

It would perhaps be hard to describe any accommodation in Rome as bad, due to the simple fact that it is actually located in this beautiful city… So writing an unbiased review will be nigh impossible…

What do the real estate agents say other than “Location, Location, Location”. And that is exactly Hotel Abruzzos selling point. Wake up, peek through the curtains, and look directly at the entrance of the Pantheon, you simply cannot demand more… Most of central Rome is easily accessed on foot, and when you start out in the center of the center, it is as good as it gets.

Our room (#02), almost triangular in shape, but with ample space for two, was located in the annex, meaning we had keys for the street door of another building – we only saw the receptionist at check-in & -out. But the little we saw of them gave nothing but a good impression. Cleanliness was also impeccable. We were a little worried that traffic could be annoying in the mornings, but that turned out not to be a problem, at least with the windows closed (AC). The announced wi-fi (paid) was however not available in the annex. Another little snag was the total lack of TV in a language resembling English.

The hotel serves its breakfast as coupons for one of the restaurants at the piazza. Eating almost inside the Pantheon is of course a good way to start any day, the food itself was not worth a rave (Rome breakfasts seem to be of varied quality…), and stay away from the black coffee (we suspect it is brewed two days in advance). Order a fresh coffee, or visit the coffee shop across the piazza after breakfast :).

Would we come back here another time? They stand a fair chance.

I took my family (2 grandmas, myself and 2 children) to the Hotel Abruzzi and returned last night... Couldnt wait to put up a top notch review. The location, hands down FANTASTIC. The staff went above and beyond.. When we left too early to make the included breakfast in their selected cafe which overlooks the Pantheon, they made sure that breakfast for 2 was sent to each of my 3 rooms the night before departure. Thank you Antonio, who was a wonderful front desk manager and handled our every need. The rooms, 405, 404, and 106 were fantastic. 404 was the biggest with 2 beds and a very large bathroom, while 405 and 106 had fantastic views. The transportation they set up to and from the airport for 3 different arrivals and departures was like clock work, and the drivers were also fantastic. They had maps and information, recommendations and great staff. The rooms were clean, and well worth the incredible rates. Will stay with the Hotel Abruzzi every time i am in Rome. Great Job!

Unbeatable location in the historic center of Rome for this family-run hotel. Right in front of the Pantheon, and within a pleasant 10 minute walk to must see sites like the Fontana di Trevi and Piazza Navona etc. The rooms are clean and comfortable, with unbelievable views of the Pantheon and the fountain in the piazza. The friendliest and most helpful staff I have ever had the pleasure of meeting, starting with Valentina at the Reception Desk, who always greets you with a lovely smile, to Antonio and Nicola who go out of their way to make certain everything is OK. The maids and the restaurant staff always ha a cheerful " Buongiorno!! " for the guests.I truly enjoyed my experience at this hotel and would recommend it to anyone.
