When we first arrived at the hotel my girlfriend told the taxi driver to keep on driving becuase from the outside it looked a bit grotty.

However, once inside the Munster's front gate we walked up the stairs and the hotel, which only has a few rooms, was quite nice. You can't really see out the windows but the bathroom was good and we enjoyed the better than average TV selection.

The breakfast was a nice touch as it is brought to the room on a nice tray at a pre agreed time. Breakfast consisted of croissants, yoghurts, packed toast jams etc, tea/coffee, fruit juice (STAY AWAY FROM THE JUICE).

Bed was comfy and the free electonic safe was a result.

Location is a bit out of the centre but you can get to the trevi fountain in 20mins if you know the route.

Overall we had an excellent visit to Rome even after a twelve hour flight delay and the hotel was fine for us but we are very unfussy and students. The bottom line is in Rome the people, sights, food and culture are so special that no hotel should alter that.

This is not really a hotel - more like a B&B. The staff are helpful and did their best to accommodate our requests but we had chosen the place based on the description on venere.com saying that there was wi-fi in the rooms. There was no internet (not even dial-up) and this created a big problem for our work. They knew that it was vital to our stay and so they kindly let us use their work station but this was also the reception desk and so it was a bit awkward. The room was v small and the bed was v uncomfortable (too hard) so we tossed and turned for 2 nights. A few things were broken (toilet flush was all cracked and the electricity sockets by the bed didn't work) and this was a bit disappointing for the price.

  • Disliked — the very hard bed & no internet in the room

It is a wonderful little inn with just six perfectly served rooms..I loved my stay!
It is very close to the heart of rome..15 minutes walking from Trinita dei Monti,5 minutes from the Termini station.

Read the posts on this hotel before going so was quite aprehensive. First thing is that you can easily walk from the Termini without getting on the metro. Start as you mean to go on as you will be doing alot of walking! When we arrived we got the lift up to the first floor (the only time we actually used it!). Yes it is old and the bell is annoying but hey, when in Rome!! The hotel is very small, only 6 bedrooms so don't expect anything on a grand scale. Saying that, when we arrived (around 12.30pm) we were shown to a twin-bedded room. When we asked if we could have a double they immediately showed us to another room. Only downside to this room was that the window was about 12 foot off the ground so no view at all unless you are a basketball player!! Also the air-con didn't work but both of these were not big problems. Bathroom was more than adequate with a shower etc with hot water on demand. Breakfast was ok, croissants, sweet rolls and dried toast, jams and butter choice of tea or coffee. Set us up nicely for the day. The hotel is pretty central and the buses are brilliant. I would not say it is really near to any of the major sites but everywhere is so easily accessable, no more than 30 mins walk or 10 mins bus ride. Would recommend this hotel as a good base, we just showered and slept here!!

My husband and I stayed here for 2 nights in May 2004, and it was very disappointing. The entrance/reception area is awkward and as uninviting as the slow, dilapidated elevator. The various desk clerks were pre-occupied with their own phone calls and newspaper reading. The coffee & packaged toast breakfast was a joke. Overall, we felt "had", and this bad hotel experience took away from our enjoyment of Rome.

Worst place to stay in Rome! Bad location, terrible service and is a trap for tourists that do not know better! It is located upstairs in an office type building with a concierge who isn't on the ball to ring you into the building. We stood outside for 30 minutes to get into the hotel. When we complained about the sewage smell they transferred us to another one of their hotels, the Domus, not much better but at least didn't smell bad. They also charged us for both the Domus and the Locanda and refuse to refund any of the charges on our credit card. Their idea of breakfast is a package of dried toast and coffee. Right down the street for the price of a room at Locanda you can get a Jr. Suite with a complete American breakfast buffet included for less than a terrible room at Locanda or Domus. Travelers beware!

Just back from Rome. Stayed at the Locanda del Fante for 3 nights and found it very pleasant. The hotel is very small and situated in a block of flats/businesses.Room was clean and nicely furnished, staff were polite and friendly, and location was good - only 10 minute walk to main bus/metro/train station. Breakfast was served ,at whatever time requested, in room. Only gripe is that it is situated in quite a busy area so the traffic noise may upset light sleepers - but other rooms may not have experienced this problem. Overall, i would recommend this hotel - something a little bit different.
