“Just Okay”
3 of 5 bubbles Reviewed July 22, 2013

Average hotel on average place. Just okay for 3 night trip to Roma, if you don't staying in the hotel so much. Hotel is located in the quiet residential part of Rome. About 20 minutes walk far from main spectacular points for visitors - Fontana di Trevi, Colosseo, or Piazza di Spagna. The nearest metro is far about 15 minutes. The best is Castro Pretorio to Colosseo, or Barberini for Vaticane. In the morning, when you are fresh and it isn't so hot, the 20 minutes is just perfect walk to the city, but in the evening I recommend you to take the taxi back. From Museo Vaticani is about 25 EUR. Breakfast is not so good. Good enough for London, but terrible for Italy. Espresso from coffee powder? Good Bless Italy! Finally, the hotel is clean, seems a little bit older, and receptionists help you as much you need.

Stayed in 4 person room for two nights. We were pleasantly surprised by the quad. Compared to other family rooms in Europe, this one was spacious and nicely furnished with working AC. Bathroom was clean and updated. Courtyard was a beautiful space to sit and meet other guests. Breakfast was sufficient for adults as well as children (bread, rolls, parties, cold cuts and cheese, yogurt, cereal, juices and great coffeemaker. Within walking distance to Termini (15 mins slow walk). Check out the Gelateria Latte - voted best gelato in Rome, only 3 blocks from the hotel. Area felt safe all times of the day - be aware of pick pocketing in Rome in general though!

I stayed at Hotel Medici as part of a student group for a few days. Overall, I thought it was a well-run hotel with a lot of advantages.

The service was very nice here, and the man working behind the front desk spoke English very well (to his great credit) so communicating wasn't a problem. There were nice common areas here, too, such as a large sitting room and a clean breakfast room. The elevator is very small, so it may be worth it to just take the stairs. The rooms are a good size, and I was very impressed with the bathroom (absolutely sparkling clean). The power in the rooms shuts off when the key is not in this little slot near the light switch on the wall when you walk in, so that took a bit of getting used to but it worked out just fine. The room I stayed in with 3 other people overlooked the street and had a nice, large window that opened right up. It's not on a very busy street, so it was fairly quiet.

The hotel is located in the northeast of the city, and I felt it was a little bit far from all the action. Public transit in Rome is almost non-existent (no subways, a few bus lines) and cabs are very expensive, so if you're looking to walk I'd suggest staying somewhere more central.

We stayed in the low season so the hotel was fairly quiet. What it lacked in modernity it made up for in being comfortable and clean.

I would probably not stay here again just because it was a little too far from central Rome for my taste, but it is a good choice for someone wanting a comfortable, quiet hotel.

Although in need of a 'face lift' this hotel is clean and very nice front desk help. Our room was a triple which worked for me and my two daughters. The room was very simple but worked for us. The courtyard area is lovely and the sitting area is adequate. The breakfast was fine and was used by many. The price point of the rooms represented good value. There are good restaurants and convenient shops nearby. A good find for Rome.

Official Description (provided by the hotel):
The Medici Hotel is the perfect hotel for visiting Rome: the building is close some of the major monuments of downtown, about 10-15 minute walk from the Trevi Fountain, the Quirinal Palace, Villa Borghese and Via Veneto, the street well known for Fellini's movie "La dolce vita", symbol of "the sweet life" of stars and jet set personalities. The hotel is also close to Termini Station, then thanks to the Metro and public transport it is easily to reach anywhere else in Rome. The Medici Hotel offers to guests large and comfortable living rooms: the TV room, a comfortable meeting room for 8-10 people, the breakfast room where breakfast is served as a rich buffet breakfast (during the summer months it is possible to have breakfast in our beautiful outdoor garden). The rooms have every comfort (Wifi, Safety Deposit Box, Telephone, Air Conditioning, Laundry Service, Tv, Mini Bar, Room Service, Private Bathroom). The Medici Hotel is located within the Aurelian Walls, near the The Gardens of Sallust, a significant archaeological site: for this reason inside the hotel are visible some Roman remains found during the renovation works at the beginning of twentieth century. The area is lively and well served by bars, restaurants, pizzerias and shops during the day, it is quiet and peaceful at night. ... more   less
