We stayed at this hotel early June and arrived late night. We caught the shuttle bus from the airport and unfortunately would advise to be dilgent when taking transport from the airport, as in this instance they dumped us on the side of the road near Termini station.

Anyhow, when we did finally arrive at the hotel we were pleasantly surprised. The hotek reception is on the top level of the hotel (but there is a sub informal reception maintaining guard of the door and guests at the lobby). Entrance to hotel floors is via a heritage lift (the type where you shut the door manually behind you) Its cosy but fits max 4 people.

Initally we were assigned a room, with frontage to the street but after the first night there was some noise issues (some of the guests from the small bar infront can get a bit roudy). We mentioned this to the hotel and they happilly accomodated us to another room which was away from the road. The rooms are very tastefully decorated in an renaissance like style with lovely paintings. The room includes own bathroom and usual amneties.

The location of the hotel is excellent, as its not far at all from termini station and thus from there you can easily access every part of rome (via the bus and train system). There shops near the hotel and a supermarket which is useful for the budget traveller and for everyday goods. Also theres some lovely restaurants close by too.

The reception staff are very freindly and we had an excellent stay. I would advise visitors not to arrive after dark, as rome there can be some petty crime and wheeling luggage in the dark may make you an easy target for opportunists.

Room tip: Try get a room away from the roadside. The glazed windows aren't a match for the noise of Roman traffic and noise coming from the night activity.

This was our 2nd stay at hotel des Artistes, we spent a week in sept 2009 and we came back with a couple of our friends for 3 nights from sept 11 to 14. We booked the relaxed package: breakfast included, wifi free , room bigger than a classic and smaller than a superior . We were very impressed by the changes they did. The reception is now at the 5th floor( there is also a computer room ) and the kitchen is at the first floor. Staff are very helpful and friendly . Breakfast is very good. Good location. 5 blocks from Termini train station. 1 block from the metro station. There is a litlle bar just in front of the hotel - very quiet - mostly locals. You will find lots of restaurants in the surrounding - not too expansive .Some friends recommended it to us and we do not hesitate to recommend it to our friends ( some friends are also returning this september) - this is the best publicity . You want an hotel nice, clean , not expansive, good location , friendly and helpful staff - do not hesitate to book !! Oups I was forgetting to mention the terrace on the top floor- this is a must- at the end of the day or for breakfast - it's a great place

Located 5 blocks from Termini at a pleasant neighborhood, I enjoyed my 3 night stay at rome tremendously.
Stayed at room 510, room was available from 11 luckily, it was right beside the reception, had a double bed, sink with soap and shampoo, a table, wardrobe, ceiling fan. Beds were very comfortable! Not squeaky at all. The place was very clean!
Our room didnt have a private bath, but the floor had 4 bathrooms. And the bathrooms were huge. One had a tub even. And they are clean! 5th floor lounge had free internet computer. Wifi for 24 hours at 2 euros if you need it. Breakfast was at 8 euros from 7:30-10 and had a decent spread of bread, jams, ham, cheese, tomato, cereal, yoghurt, juice, coffee, tea and fruit.
Reception was friendly. There was a Pinoy at the reception, and a lot of pinoy guests as well.

Tips! Get the roma pass for unlimited travel on buses and trains. As of writing it is worth 30eu. You can skip the line at 2 historical places or museums. Use it for colloseum-forum-palatino and for borghese gallery. Be sure to reserve borghese in advance!
Restaurant called Mamma Angela was excellent! Their pasta dishes were so good. Ate twice.
Supermarket one block away from hotel called sigma or signa. Ask the reception. You can buy your snacks or picnic items there. Salads at 4 eu...

Souvenir prices: i heart roma shirts should be 5eu at stalls. Italia sweaters at 10-15 depending on quality. Magnets at 2eu each. Caps at 5eu. U can buy anywhere from the bangladeshi, just remember the prices.

Vatican : bus 40 from termini
Colloseum: blue tram from hotel station 'casa pretorio' to 'colosseo', walk around palatino and forum
Trevi fountain: from termini get on red metro to 'barberini' or just come from 'spagna' then walk from spanish steps to the area. Just walk around rome!
To get back to termini just hop on bus 40 if far from metro. 64 i didnt try to get on because of pickpockets.

Shopping for clothes along via corso. Just of red metro stop piazza del popolo and walk down. Lots of brands.

Vatican lines: at around 2 pm fri waiting time was 4 minutes. Student discount available. Paid 8 eu. Audio guide was 7 eu. Download ur own podcast.

Colosseo lines on sat: had roma pass. Worth it. Skipped the long line in the morning.

Booked this hotel through Solar Tours, Sept 6-10th. We arrived around 11am, and the room was ready! The rooms are a good size and are very clean! Our room did face the street, and the noises from the bar could be heard, BUT after a long day of travelling and touring Rome- it made NO difference. Breakfast was ust perfect to start the day.. a little bit of warm foods along with an assortment of pastries, cereals and yogurt.. as well as fresh fruit availble to take along with you for your days outing. The staff here are really very good. They are very friendly and willing to help you out with any information you need. In celebrating our anniversary the hotel gave us a celebratory bottle of sparkling wine... all I can say is WOW how nice is that?!
The location is great for accessing the Metro or Termini station... Like others have mentioned if you are touring alot of the sites and museums get the ROMA PASS. It is well worth the money and will save you a bunch in transportation as well as getting you into a couple of locations for free and discounted for all others.

If I was asked about any downside to the hotel, about the only one I would mention is that one of the mattresses in the room seemed to be losing its luster for life and starting to get a slump in the middle.. but other then that technicality.. it is a GREAT place to stay.

There is a local bar across the street "The Oasis" - you can hang out after a long days trekking of the city- have a few drinks and put a good end to your day. (although- from a street side room you can hear some of the noises and the bottles going in the recycle can- but that is only minor because you are typically tooo tired to care)

I would definately recommend this location to anyone who would like a nice place to stay.

We got this hotel through Solar Tours. We're from the USA and we stayed in hotels in London, Paris and Rome. We stayed at this hotel on Sept 7-8, 2012 and Des Artistes was the best hotel of our trip. The room had a very nice and big bathroom (which we Americans like very much), a closet with a full mirror and a nice size TV, which is something we found very much lacking at other hotels we stayed at. It did have Air Conditioning!!! The bed was firm yet soft which allowed us to rest well after walking all day. Breakfast is included and was really good, not just cereal, coffee and milk but they actually had a full breakfast with fruit, eggs, sausage, bread, all sorts of coffee, juice, etc. As if this wasnt enough, the hotel is 1 block from the metro station, and about 5 blocks from the Termini (if you're coming from the airport), we got around very easily thanks to the location of this hotel and the Roma Pass which is also a must have. We highly recommend this hotel to anyone going to Rome, if we travel to Rome again we'd definitely stay there again. About one block from the hotel there is laundry service and a pizza bar. The people there were very helpful in telling us how to get around and speak English fluently. We felt quite at home.
