We stayed 3 nights. The staff never informed us that the tax was cash only. Our room was cramped and small. The tv super tiny and the dishes from breakfast were CONSTANTLY clattering! I couldn't sleep. They came in and made our bed daily with the same sheets (stained from before we got there) It was also a long walk to get anywhere... pay a little more for a better place. It is not a 3 star hotel!!!

We booked this budget hotel through Groupon, the first destination of 3 cities, starting in Rome.
The hotel room is so small you literally can not open your case without putting it on the bed, no space at all. Only one plug socket. The beds are extremely uncomfortable. But this is all acceptable for the price if it wasn’t for the noise on a morning. Outside rooms 5-7 is the washing up bay, clattering and banging around, talking extremely loud. The staff never smile and are very rude, with the exception of the lady on reception who is lovely.
I would not return to this budget hotel if it was free, book a youth hostel if you want cheep, they are usually better than this.
Lastly, I would like to say Rome is phenomenal.
It’s a must in life, just don’t stay in this hotel
Not forgetting Phillip and Helen they will show u how to shake you're bootys guys pushy pushy you need to be there but they are great fun I can't imagine how this hotel will manage to replace this team next season pink wave are for sure the best
Thank you for a lovely stay at Athena Hotel we stayed in room 15 in the Hotel for 3 days room quite small bed not the comfiest shower nice n warm as was the room staff friendly room clean and clean towels everyday n breakfast gives you a good start to the day thank you for a lovely stay 10 minute walk to Bologna metro into the Termini
Wife and I stayed here in Dec 2018 as part of a groupon deal, had some reservations after reading some of the reviews. However following our stay i have to ask the question who are these people doing the reviews !!
It is a 3star hotel, our room was small (compared to uk) but after all we were here to sleep, the room was very clean, warm (we had to open the window) the shower room was spotless and i had plenty of room in the shower (6'2" and far from being thin).
Our room was cleaned every day with fresh towels etc.
Cannot comment on breakfast as we ate out, every day. The area has a host of cafe's and pizza shops, all that we tried were very good and cheaper than central Rome, supermarket also very close by.
Service was always warm and friendly by all staff, yes the lift was broken on our arrival, however the staff assisted us with our luggage upstairs (thankyou very much appreciated), lift was fixed the following day.
10 mins approx to metro station, 2 mins to bus stop for Termini, Roma card well worth it, we used the metro frequently returning by bus to the hotel.
Overall we were very impressed and would definitley recommend this hotel, and stay here again.

The Athena is a bit out of the way and the rooms are not large. However, it was warm and comfortable, the staff were extremely helpful and the breakfast was just right to set you up for the day. The electrics left a little to be desired with only 1 usable plug for our 3 electronic devices but we got around that. It's a 10 minute walk up to Bologna Metro Station and you can get just about anywhere from there (we have a brilliant 72 hour ticket at just 18 Euros each). For a short stay and just using it as a base, this is an ideal venue.
