We stayed at Baileys in August as a family of four including two teenage daughters. We stayed in rooms 503 and 504. Beautiful clean rooms. We had already read reviews before booking, so knew that rooms ending in a 3 were quite small. Do not let this detract you - it was more than adequate for myself and my husband. Ok it isn't enormous, but is very comfortable and has all services including a decent shower, Sky TV, mini bar and safe. The adjoining room 504 with interconnecting door is gorgeous and was the only one of its type I could find in Rome. The interconnecting room gives privacy whilst ensuring that you do not end up at the other end of the hotel to other family members, especially if your children are younger.
The staff, especially Gerald, are brilliant and speak extremely good English. Gerald offered very useful information about all the sites, restaurants, ice cream parlours etc. Our daughters were particularly keen on our bellboy, Eduardo - a ringer for Tom Daley which was very apt seeing as the Olympics had just finished!
Rome exceeded all expectations. The city never sleeps. Try to make sure that you visit everywhere at night as well as during the day. The Trevi Fountain, Colosseum, Vatican etc etc are beautiful when floodlit.
We would definitely return, but possibly as recommended by Gerald in April or October as is was 35-40 degrees in August.
Baileys is very handy for all the sites. Piazza Republicca and Termini Station at only 5-10mins walk. Trevi Fountain, Pantheon, Piazza Navona are all in easy walking distance. Gerald arranged a taxi to the Vatican for us, which cost approx 14 euros. We bought a Roma Pass each which gave us free bus and metro for 3 days and the first two admissions to museums free of charge - best of all we didn't have to queue to get in to the Colosseum. We also used the 110 sightseeing bus which gives 48 hours use - we got one evening and two full days transport for 48 euros, so had a full trip around Rome to show us the sights on our first evening.
Our booking was made directly through the hotels own website, so we benefited from an advance web saver rate. Email Communication with the hotel is good, we always received a prompt reply to any query before our visit.
All in all, do not hesitate to stay at Baileys - we would certainly recommend it - a beautiful hotel in a ver beautiful city.
