This was a great experience! The Franklin (with its quirky musical theme) offers the American visitor with a quaint and different lodging experience. The staff are attentive, the rooms are clean and neat, and the morning breakfast is a good blend of American and European tastes. Each room has its own CD system and there is a nice collection of music available to visitors in the lobby. The location is also in walking distance of the Vatican neighborhood which has several available restaurants. We would most certainly visit the Franklin again and highly recommend it to others.

I stayed in Franklin Hotel for four nights in november/2011 and didn't get disappointed. The reception desk and lobby are small and simple, yet clean and welcoming, with a nice decoration. Staff was kind and attentive and room service was efficient. Breakfast was acceptable, with a very good cappuccino. Rooms could be a bit larger, but still it offered comfort and good sleep quality. All rooms have a stereo and ambient sound (even in the bathroom), and that really made the difference in my stay. Besides, one can choose from several CDs available in the lobby, at no additional cost. In addition, it should be noted that the hotel offers free wireless internet in the rooms.
Finally, I found the hotel's location very convenient. It was far enough from the most touristic spots (so that I could taste the Rome of the romans), yet close enough to the Vatican (15 min walk) and the subway system (Ottaviano station).

This hotel is ideally situated for a trip to Rome. Within easy walking distance from the Vatican with all its museums, churches and history, you can easily get to the city centre on foot or by metro.
The staff are so welcoming and do anything they can to help with your visit. Loved the courtyard restaurant where breakfast is served. The rooms are well appointed and you can listen to just about any sort of music on the cd list.
The price won't break most budgets so you can get a visit to Rome for a really good price.

After completing a Globus Tours "Best of Italy" for 11 days, my wife and I wanted to see more of what Roma had to offer. We found the Franklin to be a great little neighborhood gem, and enjoyed a few days living among the locals for a change, instead of a chain hotel. The room was very clean, the staff was very helpful with our questions and with their guidance when we needed it. The free breakfasts are good, as well as the coffee barista's creations.

I have a trip report posted on this section of our trip, with photos and video, that is easier to read than here, if you are interested, follow the link:

Hope this gives you some good ideas on how to spend your time in Rome.

Room Tip: Take the Soul room and enjoy the private terrace!

Great little Hotel. Standard rooms are spacious, clean and have Sky TV, WIFI, hairdryer and stereo (with speakers in the bathroom). CD's can be picked up at reception where they also offer coffee and juice - along with cakes & buns - for free throughout the day. Hotel is a few minutes walk away from the nearest Metro station, but the bus 23 stops very close to the hotel too. You can walk to the Vatican in about 15 minutes. If you're out for the night its probably best to get a taxi back as the walk from Trastevere etc would take a bit too long. Booked through ClickandGo.com and got a great deal for 3 nights in the hotel. There are also some great little restaurants in the area like Trattoria alla Bucaniera on Via Faa di Bruno - its absolutely superb!

Room Tip: Standard rooms (Pop/Rock rooms) are perfectly fine.

We booked this hotel for two reasons; we loved the idea of the musical theme and because it had family rooms, something we found difficult to find in Rome!
This hotel is full of personal touches, they emailed us before we arrived to find out if they could help in anyway, give us a weather update and find out which CDs in their collection we would like in our room on arrival. As we arrived back from our second busy day sightseeing we collected our key from reception and our 2 children were given their own envelope... which turned out to be a treasure hunt around the room ending with a lovely present for each child.
The staff were very friendly and always willing to help.
The hotel was well located for the Vatican but a little way off from the other locations, but we used the metro and our children walked a surprisingly long way. I would recommend this hotel.

Room Tip: The rooms on the ground floor are very noisy as soon as people start having breakfast!

Very conveniently located to the Vatican. For most other sites in Rome (colloseum, trevi fountain, Spanish steps etc) it's a short walk and then a short subway ride. Beds are not very comfortable but the neighborhood is quiet and the hotel is clean.
