After completing a Globus Tours "Best of Italy" for 11 days, my wife and I wanted to see more of what Roma had to offer. We found the Franklin to be a great little neighborhood gem, and enjoyed a few days living among the locals for a change, instead of a chain hotel. The room was very clean, the staff was very helpful with our questions and with their guidance when we needed it. The free breakfasts are good, as well as the coffee barista's creations.

I have a trip report posted on this section of our trip, with photos and video, that is easier to read than here, if you are interested, follow the link:

Hope this gives you some good ideas on how to spend your time in Rome.

Room Tip: Take the Soul room and enjoy the private terrace!

Great little Hotel. Standard rooms are spacious, clean and have Sky TV, WIFI, hairdryer and stereo (with speakers in the bathroom). CD's can be picked up at reception where they also offer coffee and juice - along with cakes & buns - for free throughout the day. Hotel is a few minutes walk away from the nearest Metro station, but the bus 23 stops very close to the hotel too. You can walk to the Vatican in about 15 minutes. If you're out for the night its probably best to get a taxi back as the walk from Trastevere etc would take a bit too long. Booked through ClickandGo.com and got a great deal for 3 nights in the hotel. There are also some great little restaurants in the area like Trattoria alla Bucaniera on Via Faa di Bruno - its absolutely superb!

Room Tip: Standard rooms (Pop/Rock rooms) are perfectly fine.

We booked this hotel for two reasons; we loved the idea of the musical theme and because it had family rooms, something we found difficult to find in Rome!
This hotel is full of personal touches, they emailed us before we arrived to find out if they could help in anyway, give us a weather update and find out which CDs in their collection we would like in our room on arrival. As we arrived back from our second busy day sightseeing we collected our key from reception and our 2 children were given their own envelope... which turned out to be a treasure hunt around the room ending with a lovely present for each child.
The staff were very friendly and always willing to help.
The hotel was well located for the Vatican but a little way off from the other locations, but we used the metro and our children walked a surprisingly long way. I would recommend this hotel.

Room Tip: The rooms on the ground floor are very noisy as soon as people start having breakfast!

Very conveniently located to the Vatican. For most other sites in Rome (colloseum, trevi fountain, Spanish steps etc) it's a short walk and then a short subway ride. Beds are not very comfortable but the neighborhood is quiet and the hotel is clean.

Great. This hotel has its music theme reflected in instruments as furniture and piano ties on the staff. CDs available in reception and a great stereo in the room - although it seems to default to loud volume so have the remote in one hand if turning it on to control the volume. It is modern (slightly Ikea-ish) which may not appeal to all,but the staff are great, friendly and informative. We found the rooms soundproof for the music but not the bathrooms where noise of showers etc travels. The room bar does not carry alcohol (we didn't see if we could get any in the hotel) and to me threw out a lot of light all night. We had a front room and I would add that on Sunday v early (1-2 ish am) the main bins outside are noisily emptied, but that is not the hotel's fault. Breakfast is good but nothing hot except the drinks. Sometimes there were not enough tables once the outdoor terrace was too cold to use. Staff always there and very willing (charged daughter's DS etc).

The location is good - a brisk 5 minutes from the metro, which is handy and unusual in Rome where the metro is not mainly there for tourist travel (get a day pass for 4euros), and a further couple of minutes takes you to the Vatican and museums. Its only a brisk walk on across the Sant Angelo bridge to the historic centre. Be prepared to walk your feet off in Rome as public transport is not brilliant in the centre (narrow cobbled streets!). Rome traffic takes some getting used to, but green for pedestrians just means straight-on traffic stops, the traffic turning has to stop of their own volition and it takes a while to gather the courage to just step out and see what happens - but they do stop!

Saw the Pope in the Square Wednesday morning (much better than Sundays) but don't try and get into the square at lunchtime that day as they only allow people out for about 30 minutes. Do Trevi fountain at night.

Great restaurant opposite (Taverna Romana), although best in the evening as lunch menu is limited (italians don't eat big lunches) and the Giuliana 95 at the end of the street is a great boutique (ie: small trendy and expensive) restaurant, but worth it. Went to Est Est Est for pizzas as recommended in AA guide, and although lovely inside, did not think it was extra special.

Older reviews are right. Great place to stay. We stayed 4 nights the first time and 2 the second.
It’s a 10 min walk to the Metro, which gets you around quickly to the tourist attractions, or there’s a bus, 2 mins walk. If you are heading to the Vatican and Sistine Chapel, it’s perfect, a 15 min walk.
It’s quirky, loads of musical character, terrific staff with good information and English.
Recommend the airport pickup, which is a private car and very easy.
The breakfast area is delightful and the breakfast is most enjoyable either inside or outside. The leftover juice, water and pastries are put out in the reception area afterwards, most welcome after trudging through the streets of Rome all day!
Great quality sound systems in the rooms and you can borrow the CD’s from reception.
Simona, Michaela, Daniel and Maria, the housekeeper are all friendly and sweet.
Also, recommend booking well ahead. We changed our plans. Six weeks in Italy, we stayed 4 nights at the beginning of our trip. We decided to return there a month later at the end of our trip. Booking a month before we wanted to stay, it was still double what we paid at the beginning. We liked it enough so we didn’t worry and it saved having to search for somewhere else in Rome.
One thing, I just wish all hotels would give guests 2 pillows, one soft, one hard, so you could have the choice of your preference.
I must say that relaxing in the bath with music and the blue mirror ball, was just brilliant after a 14 hour flight from Singapore. never too old!!

Room Tip: book well ahead

We just stayed in Rome for 4 days and loved the Franklin Feel the Sound Hotel.

My husband, daughter (22 year old) and I shared a room. As expected, it was crowded with 3 adults but we had plenty of storage space, safe space, and bathroom space to be very comfortable. The beds were very firm - which we like. As described on their website, it had a really cool music theme and the sound system and TV in the room was very good. The room was on the front and and the first floor. We were afraid it might be noisy but it was really quiet. The neighborhood was off the beaten path and we felt very safe.

We loved the bathroom. It had a disco ball with a blue LED light shining on it. Very clever and made for a great night light. Being the first time our daughter was in Europe - she got a kick out of the bidet. The installed hair drier wasn't blowing hot so they were very good about providing a hand held drier that worked even better. Plenty of shampoo, conditioner, lotions etc which they provided in small dishes to save on containers - eco friendly.

Probably the best part was the breakfast. It seemed to be served almost all morning. A great variety of breads, meats, cheeses, hard & soft boiled eggs, pastries, fruit, cereal, yogurt, and juices. The had staff on hand that made lattes, cappuccinos, American coffee (strong) and teas.

The staff was friendly and helpful.

Other nice touches: they provide a laptop in the lobby for you to use, music CD's were varied and good, patio for breakfast was airy and charming, a few drinks and snacks were left out int he lobby incase you need a little pick up, it was a 15 minute walk to the Vatican and a 10 minute walk to the Metro.

If I had to list a drawback, it is located near the Vatican (which is the far Western side of Rome). If you spend a lot of time in the center or in the ancient city, it's a little out of the way. However, it's near the Metro so it was easy to get to all site in Rome.

As a side note about Rome, if you see graffiti in any pictures, don't worry. Graffiti is EVERY WHERE in Rome and doesn't mean that it's a rough neighborhood. Personally, I can't believe that the officials in Rome can't get this under control. Considering it's one of the most beautiful old cities in the world, why don't they crack down on this. Other cities control graffiti.

We would highly recommend this hotel to anyone!
