Hotel Diana Roof Garden
Ranked #322 of 1,272 Hotels in Rome
Reviewed June 4, 2013

We stayed at the Hotel Diana for 5 nights recently. While the location is fairly convenient for those traveling by train (including the airport train from/to Fiumicino), and has a pleasant roof garden bar, it disappoints otherwise. The room decor is old, and not in a good way. Elevator capacity is too limited. It has some classic Italian bathroom quirks (such as the toilet seat located under a pedestal sink). It advertises that air conditioning is provided, but on warm days (mid- to upper 80s F) in late May, the AC was (intentionally) provided only from 2 pm to 2 am (besides, ours barely worked when it was turned on). Thus, you wake up in a sweat in the middle of the night, open the window to get some marginally cooler air, and expose yourself to a cacophony of street or alley noises at almost all hours. The wifi is erratic. It's not cheap, and at this price there are surely better choices in Rome.

This hotel was a mix of great and awful.

The location is great. Almost everything you want to do in Rome in easily within walking distance. We took a cab to St. Peter's, but this was because the weather was chilly and we knew we were walking back (which took about an hour, but we took our time).

The hotel itself is pretty, and the roof garden is absolutely beautiful. The service on the roof garden was great as well.

The service at the front desk is adequate, but not overly friendly. They are slammed in the morning at checkout and don't go down there unless you absolutely need to.

The rooms themselves are tiny (which is not a huge deal, as we weren't in them much) and our air conditioner couldn't keep up with the heat. The front desk said they'd send somebody by to see about it, but they never did. Thankfully the heat broke and we could open the windows.

Room Tip: Plan to spend lots of time outside of your room.

Just come back from a lovely break at the Hotel Diana. Only 5 mins from the airport transfer bus stop and within walking distance of most of Rome's famous attractions. Only one we caught the metro to was Vatican City. Really friendly waiters at breakfast (good choice of things), and when we ate in the roof garden.
Our first room was slightly noisy from the road outside but they moved us to a quiter room as soon as we mentioned it. As we live 'out in the sticks' - any traffic noise seems a lot.
Book exchange in the lobby was useful too.

Room Tip: Ask for a quiet room not overlooking the road.

Once again checked on Trip Advisor before this hotel was booked!
Could not be in a better location for everything.
It is a good hotel. Reception staff really helpful and attentive. Breakfasts had lots of choice with cold meats, bread, toast, cakes, yoghurts, fruit and also scrambled or hard boiled eggs, bacon and little frankfurter sausages. You could eat on the terrace or in the breakfast rooms. Other contributors have mentioned that the breakfast rooms were full, we did not have this problem, there are two rooms and one was full but we had the other one to ourselves!
The roof terrace is really lovely and very enjoyable to have a drink here before going out for a meal, or you could eat here if you wanted. The prices for drinks and food were really not too expensive.
The rooms were clean and had all amenities. Not large, but adequate. Water was always hot and the towels were lovely and fluffy and clean. The beds were firm, but good. The only reservation I had was the layout of the rooms, I do not obviously know if they were all the same but the two I saw were, was that the door entered straight into the room and the beds were just inside the door. Usually, there is a little corridor with the bathroom on the side and then you enter the room, but here you were straight into the room. Where we were there were 3 doors very close to each other and, although fortunately this did not happen, if you are a light sleeper, as I am, if someone came in very late at night the noise of the doors opening and closing and maybe people talking would definitely wake you up.

It is very close to the main bus and train station - Termini - where you can get the Metro or a bus all over the city. We bought a card for 3 days for 16.50 euros for unlimited travel on all transport. You can buy these in the little shop just across the road from the hotel. You can also buy a one day card for 6 euros. Well worth having as the buses are plentiful, once you get to grips with the bus stops and the timetables it is very easy to travel around. The Metro is worse than the London underground but does the job. Just try to avoid the rush hours.

When crossing the roads in Rome the red man to you means DO NOT CROSS, the green man means CROSS WITH CARE as cars come from all angles even though you have the right to go, I just used to put my head down and go across, quite scary at times, but I survived!

There are lots of restaurants very close by to choose from. We chose some from Trip Advisor before we went and I will review these under the restaurant, but we were not disappointed.

Saw everything on our 'bucket list' and everyone had a different No. 1 choice of their favourite attraction after the visit!

Would recommend this hotel. If I went back to Rome would stay here again. When in Rome you do not see that much of your hotel as there is so much to see and do, you just need a good place to come back to!

Room Tip: Obviously rooms at the front of hotel by the road are noisier, although they do have double glazing...

This is a good 4 star hotel, at a very good location in Rome. Close to the big railway station and crossing point of the two metreo networks. We had a lovely room with seperate bed- and sitting room. The hotel has a nice roof garden (although we didn't find time in Rome to actually use it). Hotel is clean. Breakfast was reasonable, we had better breakfest oferings in otrhger 4 star hotels. But all in all a recomendation worth.

Room Tip: We had a *23 room, that has the double rooms, if you book ask for such a room.

Great location, close to train and subway. We were fortunate to have a room with a patio and on the quiet side street. Front desk helped when ever they could. Breakfast room always crowded and at times had to wait for a table. The roof top was a great place to unwind or have a cocktail before dinner. Would I go back to the hotel, YES.

Room Tip: Try to get a room on the side street, not the best view but quiet.

A comfortable hotel well placed next to the termini, staff we friendly and the place was clean. The breakfast was V good, they do bacon and scrambled eggs. They also looked after our bags after checkout so we could wander arround Rome on the last day. My only complaint is that they dont have tea making facilities in the rooms. Which was a huge pain!
