“Beautiful, newly renovated room!”
Reviewed January 30, 2012

We had read reviews on TripAdvisor to avoid the annex, so we did. We stayed on the 5th floor and the room was gorgeous. It was newly renovated, and HUGE. It had a beautiful bathroom, heated towel rack and huge shower.

The front desk service was great. They served a very good breakfast. The room was a little crowded but we were able to find a table each morning.

The hotel is in great location in Rome, close to Termini (less than 10 minute walk).

We paid cash and received a 8% discount because of this. Make sure to ask about this or the Rick Steve's discount.

We would DEFINITELY stay here again.

Room Tip: Request to stay on the 5th floor if you can.

Honest hotel. Value for money. Good sized rooms. Clean, warm and comfortable. Free strong wi-fi in the rooms. The staff were polite and helpful, ready to solve every issue. Walking distance to all main atractions. Just 2 minutes walk from metro stations (Republica and Termini) and bus stop (40 and 64 to all major sights). The breakfast was ok. Don't be disappointed from the entrance and the reception. The rooms are on 3rd and 4th floor and are renovated. Recommended for anyone traveling on budget .

Would like to thank Ivan at the front desk for all his help during my stay, which was unfortunately curtailed due to mechanical problems beyond night staff's control. I did feel that the people, especially Ivan, were courteous, friendly and helpful, showering me with guidebooks and capuccino. The location is not bad, especially during January sales, .... and it only takes a day or two to get one's bearings and learn the layout of Roma. Fontana di Trevi, Plaza Espagna and Campo de Fiori are all fairly close. Great rates too, I should add. Grazie, Ivan for your grand good cheer which improved my trip in so many ways!!!

Clean, safe hotel within minutes of the Roma Termini (on foot). Easy walk to many of the major sights. Sumptuous feast for breakfast! Staff is very welcoming and helpful. Great value for the price, no compromises on safety and comfort.

We stayed at the hotel for 5 nights and the staff were polite and friendly from the moment we arrived to the moment we left. The use of a laptop in our room to check Internet was a nice touch and the helpful local information from the reception desk was appreciated.

The room was clean and although not a breathtaking view, the enclosed courtyard meant that it maintained an unexpected quietness in the centre of the capital city. The room itself was clean and the bed wonderfully comfortable and big. The shower was strong and hot. We enjoyed our stay and would recommend anyone to go for a break at Hotel Sonya.

Thank you for making our time in Rome so special.

My wife and I stayed at this hotel over Christmas for 8 days. The location is nice, not a tourist trap. We stayed in room 335 (very nice room, large with nice window....the only sore point is the cleaning ladies' locker is right next to it so it gets noisy with their preparation and chatter from 7:40am to 8am)....not good if you want to sleep till late (like my DW). We enjoyed the bar across from the hotel, took advantage of the location to ply around Rome in a bus or Metro and ice cream most evenings. One of the highlights of the stay was the dinner we had at restaurant Holiday - 1 block from the hotel. Babul, Sanjoy are most helpful. The hotel served us a spread at breakfast that was one of the best we had in Italy - a couple of hot dish choices, fruit, yogurt, cereal and some very good capuccino. We had great fun walking in Rome, shopping and then ending our days in restaurants around the hotel. We also took bus/metro rides to try out restaurants distant from the hotel. Given the location coming back late evening was easy and not a challenge. We aim to be back and be able to stay here again.

Room Tip: Room 335 is corner room - nice, airy, bright, high ceilings
