“Lovely place to stay”
5 of 5 bubbles Reviewed August 23, 2013

The hotel is a great place to stay in Rome. Yes you have to walk 10 mins to the metro and the Colosseum is about 15 mins away but if you want them closer then pay the ridiculous price to be closer. There are 2 places to eat just up the road and it's close to a supermarket if you want to save some money. The staff were very friendly and helpful during the day and night. The area does have a lot of graffiti but once you get to Rome you'll see everywhere does, I walked down the road at 9pm and felt safe. I would definitely stay there again.

And we were mugged - however, I was wise to the con, and when I raised my voice, they evaporated. After a hot day in Rome we went back to the hotel to freshen up (by taxi) thinking to find somewhere to eat locally - there was nowhere. On the way back to the hotel we saw a man with a map looking lost so we asked if we could help. As soon as it was clear we spoke English, two others appeared and one waved a piece of card at us saying, "Police, show us your passports".

Yeah! Pull the other one. I suggested we went to the hotel to sort things out but they didn't move so I shouted the same thing and, as I say, they then vanished - I was drawing attention though the street was virtually deserted.

The hotel is OK but a long way out of the centre and the breakfast was a joke and as someone else has commented and as I have related, it is not a safe place to walk.

AVOID!!!!!

This hotel is not centrally located. There is a 12 minute walk to the metro station and the place does not look safe to walk at night. My family did not like the breakfast at all. Coffee, juice and croissant. I was the only one who went for breakfast only because I wanted to get what I paid for but I noticed the dry mat for the glasses for juice looks moldy. The outside patio for breakfast smelled. We asked for fresh towels and we learned that they don't wash the towels everyday they only hang it outside to dry so we were shocked. We had to pay for wifi but I got into an argument with the reception when it stopped working after two hours when I paid for four and he said it depends on how many iPads we had. It should not say per hour then it should say per usage. He finally gave me a new password but he told me that I had to explain to the manager. The other receptions were nice and helpful and gave us directions and tips on where to eat. It can get noisy especially if you get the room close to the road. I would have chosen another hotel if I have other options.

Two of us (girls, aged 22, 1st time travellers to Rome) booked a 4 night stay at the Donatello hotel through a Jet2 package deal and would really recommend this hotel.
Minus the cost of the flights, our stay worked out at just under £25 each per night which was an absolute bargain.

Service- The hotel has a 24 hour secure reception which really helped us to feel safe on an evening. The staff were very helpful. They gave us a map of the city on our first day, marked the location of the hotel and all the major tourist attractions and talked us through the transport routes to each of them. Breakfast in the hotel garden/patio was very nice and helped to keep the costs down.

The location was great. As mentioned in other reviews, the hotel is only a 10 minute walk to Manzoni tube station which can take you into the centre of Rome and through to the Vatican. The trains come every few minutes and are well conditioned and very quick to use. The Colosseum and Roman Forum is around a 15-20 minute walk but it’s very easy to get to. There was also a lovely little family restaurant just around the corner with plenty of other restaurants nearby if you wanted to stay local, or Spagna is only a few stops on the tube and has loads of bars and restaurants to choose from.

The room was of ample size , very clean and had a really nice bathroom and shower. I saw a few reviews which said that room service wasn’t daily and that there was no air-con but this wasn’t the case for us. We went in July so having an air conditioned room to go back to was lovely!

To sum up- great location, excellent service, clean rooms. Would definitely stay here again.

Room Tip: We had a room on the 4th floor at the rear of the hotel and neither of us noticed any noise at all.

We were received for a 2 night stay by very helpful staff and were very impressed with the hotel. We were a little worried after some negative reviews but I really don't know what people expect - this hotel is priced very reasonably for its good location and yes, there is some road noise (although we heard none in our room as we were at the back) but you are in ROME!! People beep their horns, get over it!! We had a twin room with working air con (thank goodness as it reached nearly 40 degrees), it was very clean and the continental breakfast was fine. All in all we were very pleased with this little gem of a hotel. Go for it.....

Two of us stayed at the hotel for a four night stay and we were left a little disappointed.

Has other reviewers have stated, the hotel is located just a 10 minute walk away from the Metro station and the basic breakfast provided of Coffee with Croissants and Bread rolls couldn’t be faulted for a basic start to the day.

However the room we stayed in had no working air conditioning. On our stay the temperature reached 30 Celsius. Luckily we had balcony doors to let in some air. Unluckily the balcony faced the main road outside the hotel.

As it was so warm we were faced with leaving the balcony doors open over night but the traffic noise was horrendous. Cars don’t stop beeping there horns at any time of the day/night, sirens blaring from police/ambulances going past, the tram and buses which run 24/7 and then the refuge collection at 1.50 am in the morning we were due to depart meant we got little sleep.

The room we were given was a double room when we had booked a triple room and it was tired and dated. Renovation work was been undertaken to the rear of the hotel so when we sat outside for breakfast the noise and smell was horrendous.

ws nervous with the reviews, but turned out to be a wonderful place to stay. hotel itself very, very nice. outside a little to be desired and that is a shame because the staff were very helpful and the rooms were very nice. clean and a good size. the neighborhood is not as bad as it looks. never felt threatened and we walked late at night. good location. 10 minutes to metro, 15 to Colleseum, and the best restaurant just around the corner right on Manzoni -LA TAVERAN ITALIANA. this place is amazing and it is a must do while in rome. cant wait to go back just for this restaurant!. all in all, would recomend this place.

Room Tip: back rooms have balconies! and it is quite pleasant to sit and have a glass of wine and unwind at en...
