“not bad hotel near train station in Rome”
Reviewed December 7, 2012

We used Priceline to book a "4-star hotel" in central Rome, and ended up with the Royal Court, and the reviews weren't great. We walked to the hotel from the train station---3 blocks, and were pretty leery as the neighborhood looked a little rough. The lobby is very small with only a desk clerk who showed us to a small, pretty shabby room----naturally, the "last room" available. It wasn't even close to 4-star quality. It was late so we were stuck, but I remembered that one reviewer recommended Room 314, so I told the clerk we would stay if we were moved there the next day and if it were acceptable. We went sightseeing the next day and returned to find our stuff moved to 316. It was great, good bed, marble bath, window overlooking the courtyard. So, it all turned out well for the next 5 days---real easy access to the subway and trains and buses, several out of the way neighborhood cafes, and easy walking to many sites. The price was right (for Rome) at 120 euros per night, but the clerk said they usually charged much more. Anyway, we ended up liking it.

This is a hotel 4 blocks approximately from Termini. Looks like an antique Italian home which
was converted. It is not an American type hotel You know you are in Europe when you take the
few steps up to the lobby from the street. The hotel is full of narrow staircases, corridors and
tiny elevators. The decor is turn of the century...Marble everywhere and hardwood floors. The
room ia small by American standards but average by Italian standards. The bathroon is all marble
with an antique bathtub perfect for soaking all the tiredness out after a long flight. There is a safe
in the room. Breakfast is served in the basement and it is a very generous breakfast with eggs,
breads, fruit, fruit juice,coffee,tea...etc. The room is quite elegant and the service there is very
genteel. I found it through Priceline and paid $199 for one person with breakfast. It is more than
I would like to pay,but Rome is very expensive and the hotel was quite frou,frou...

This hotel is close to the Termini, so that is a plus. The room was really tight, barely enough room to move. The front desk staff was completely apathetic. I booked this on Expedia and realized after I booked one of their non cancel rooms using their Special Rate that the rate was higher than the normal hotel rate and didn't include breakfast which the other rate did. So, I would not recommend this hotel and I would be wary of Expedia Special Rate "deals".

Dear RobHop489,

first of all thank you for having choosen Hotel Royal Court in Rome.

We apologize for the inconvenience with the room on arrival and I'm glad that from the day after you had a larger one.

Being an historical building rooms may not have all the same size, but definitely the same service, which is a 4 star service.

Concerning concierge behavior I thank you very much for your important review, and I apologize if there was any lack.
Concerning rates I truly guarantee that there wasn't any gap between Expedia rates and Hotel direct rates when reservation was made.

We stayed in Rome for just 3 nights and found the accommodation clean and bright. The room was very spacious and the bathroom was too. Breakfast was lovely and intimate. It was our anniversary while we were there and the staff recommended a restaurant for dinner which was fabulous. The hotel is very near to the station so it is quite a walk to all the well known sights. The staff were very friendly and helpful with any requests we made. The only downfall was that there was no lounge or bar area to relax in.

Room Tip: We stayed in room 314 which was lovely

The staff was very polite and friendly. However, the hotel is very small and dated. Our shower and tub leaked, the breakfast was poor (not fresh), and rooms are so small you are bumping into the furniture to get around. The location is very close to the Termini train station, which makes it convenient for coming and going to Rome, but this area is not a great neighborhood for exploring as a tourist. This hotel is nothing special...this would be, at best, a 3 star hotel in the US.

Hotel Royal Crt is close to the main train station in Rome. It has a nice little courtyard entrance, and has lifts to the different floors. Staff are friendly, and there is free WiFi. our room was a pretty good size and clean. Nice towels.
My only issue is with the beds, which is always a priority for me. Cleanliness and a good bed and pillow. The pillows in our room were old lumpy and flat and the mattresses need replacing. The beds, unusually, had just a sheet and a brocade bedspread, no blanket. The slippery bedspread would fall off during the night and wake us up.

Room Tip: perhaps ask if they have new beds and pillows.
