Absolutely one of the best trattorias in Rome. We had an a fantastic meal. The wine list is varied and affordable and the only thing that was better than the food was the hospitality of the staff. Everyone at the restaurant was so warm and welcoming. It is off the beaten track but absolutely worth taking the #8 tram to the end of the line. We had eggplant frito as a starter, the pasta amatriciana –the best I’ve ever eaten anywhere, and then seafood specials. The specials are really the thing to get but I could not resist the amatriciana as it was our last night in Rome. A friend said “don’t leave Rome without eating at Cesare al Saparetto” and that was wonderful advice. Definitely reserve a table. We arrived at 8:30pm and the restaurant was nearly empty and watched as many, many people without reservations were turned away. The place was packed by 9:15 p.m. and still going strong when we left at 10:45. A lovely evening.

You will find many references to "a good, local restaurant in Rome" and end up with a tourist trap. This is NOT it. The food is local and excellent and of a high quality, the service nice and friendly, the house wine good and very cheap. You will have to take tram 8 15 mins from city centre. You will not regret it. The best value for money meal I have had in many years.

We rode the #8 tram to its last stop, Casaletto, 25 min. from our hotel near Campo Fiori. You turn right after getting off tram & immediately can see the restaurant sign. We went because of rave review from Elizabeth Minchilli's app. of Rome restaurants. Some confusion over our reservation which we really didn't need, as there were plenty of tables on a Sat. Night.
Delicious light meatball appetizer, fried gnocchi in blue cheese sauce so so. I had a tasty mushroom pasta & oxtails for my husband in a great tomato sauce. Ordinary pannacotta with fruit sauce for dessert. Good service. Too bright dining room but very nice outside tables under grape arbor.

We took a cab for about 15 euro from Coliseum area to the Trattoria Da Cesare and on the way back we hopped on the a tram #8 which has final stop near this Trattoria. The tram took us back to where we started. We were sitted outside under the canopy of grape wines. The food was excellent. To begin with we ordered all the fired appetizers they had on the menu calamari, zucchini blossoms, fish, rice balls staffed with mozzarella. Everything was hot and super tasty. For the main course I had gnocchi (potato pasta) pillowy goodness with sea food and it was simply outstanding. House vine and desserts did not disappoint either. Total price was 70 euro for lunch for two. Highly recommended.

The trip to the headline of the tram 8 is definitely worth it. The restaurant is simple and is the opposite of flashy and posh if you see it from the street, but you have the perfect surprise if you sit and take your time to go through the menu. It is difficult to choose from the antipasti: I wanted them all! We took fried squid (AMAZING), hot alla diavola (with a tomato sauce, perfectly spicy), aubergine fried balls (very delicate but my last choice) and fried meat balls in a sauce of basel and parmesan (super tasty). My pasta ai frutti di mare (seafood pasta) was just amazing and the portion was generous. The house white wine was good. Final touch a set of dessert tasting (small portions of tiramisu, cheesecake, creme brulée and home made pies). To be remembered.
