We stayed here from July 7 to 12th 2014. I was a little worried from the reviews but was very pleasantly surprised. The hotel is not run down, the front desk service very good with no lines and the pool a nice way to end hot tiring days. The ac in the rooms was not the greatest which is my only complaint. We used the downtown shuttle once then the metro. Take the walk, it is not so bad once you do it. We had no bad experiences and felt safe. Saved us a whole bunch of cash.

While initially in two minds about selecting this hotel for my vacation to Rome, I did find this "out-of-town" hotel a good retreat after a day full of museums, basilicas, and lots of queuing. A quiet drink after a swim in the outside pool was enough to cleanse the mind from the clutter of the day's activities.
Great room, well equipped, and very comfortable. Ever helpful staff.
This made for a very enjoyable "first visit" to Rome.

Room Tip: Include breakfast when booking the accommodation.

I used Starwood points to stay at this property, and I was hoping that it was somewhat upscale. Unfortunately, it is just average at best. The rooms are very small, and the only advantage to this hotel is that it is close to the airport.

Dear Karen F,

Thank you for your review. We regret that your recent stay with us did not live up to your expectations and that you were disappointed with the size of our rooms, which may not be as large as you can find in the US, but are not so small by European standards.
Thank you for your recent visit and we hope you will consider staying with us again.

The hotel has gone down so much in 6 yrs , The staff are extremely rude and unhelpful . Overpriced and inedible meals . Do not bother with a club room upgrade , To get a substandard room which we where moved due to a leaking ceiling . The club lounge is a joke, A few bowls of crisps and nuts no great selection of anything . Drinks ( alcohol ) are put out half empty bottles , Staff very uninterested in you . There is no where to go other than the hotel as it is miles away from everywhere and the metro walk is like take your life in your hands . Not recommended at all .

Room Tip: club rooms but they are not fabulous either .

It's kind of like Rome itself - a little bit dirty, overcrowded and noisy, but has its charm. We stayed for four nights in three Superior rooms on a city break. The check-in is extremely slow, but in general the service is rather good. There is always a queue at the front desk, and if you need any help or are about to make a complaint be prepared to wait for a good 30-40 minutes. Very convenient transfer from and to the airport on a reasonable price (7 euro per person one way). Useful luggage room (free of charge). The room was big enough, nice marble furniture. Very comfortable bed, but the 4 pillows was the same size, equally uncomfortable ones. The cleanliness standard is low (typical for Italy), a hair or two in the bathroom is OK (for them). There was no bathrobe nor slippers, I find it strange in a Superior room in Sheraton. The marble bathroom was OK, not exactly clean, with a small spots of mold in the corners (these rooms were renovated in 2013, I wouldn't take a chance with the non renovated Classic rooms). Nevertheless it was a nice one, especially in a city like Rome and in a country like Italy. In general the place was comfortable and cozy, а nice place to return after 8 or more hours of sightseeing. Very good continental breakfast with a lot of choices on a reasonable price if booked on BB basis. There is a hotel shuttle to the city, but we used the public transportation which is far cheaper (1,50 Euro for up to 100 minutes ride one way, the hotel shuttle was 7 euro per person one way). The walk to the metro station (EUR Magliana) is an unpleasant one (I think almost impossible one with lot of luggage) because there is a 7 min walk to the metro station and the road is not the nicest one for walking, since the sidewalks are not well maintained or are missing at all and you have to cross some heavy traffic roads. Another option to go to the city using public transportation are the buses stopping right in front of the hotel. One of them goes near Vatican city, another to Piazza Venezia. I didn't have time to enjoy the outside pool (opening hours 10 AM - 7 PM or sort of) but it seemed pleasant one. For SPG members it would be a lower end property, but I think it is not a bad choice in Rome and don't regret staying in it.

Reception was friendly. Convenient is the bus transfer from hotel to city center and airport at reasonable price. Though none of the bus drivers' English is well enough to understand your questions nor answer them!
Breakfast is the italian way - bit limited - not focused on the foreign traveller. Several staff don't speak a lot of English, nor French or Spanish. Only ... Italiano ...
Prices of food and drinks at the pool and bar are a bit exagerated, as nearest restaurant in the area is at 15 min walk.
Good plus is the big, well equiped and well maintained gym and the big outside pool to refresh, although it closes already at 6pm.

Dear Wyckmans_1,

Thank you for choosing the Sheraton Roma for your recent stay. We are pleased to hear that you found our Reception staff friendly and appreciated our Sheraton Fitness and enjoyed relaxing at our outdoor pool. The opening times of the pool vary according to weather conditions and management may occasionally close it earlier for private functions. In June it closed at 7.30 pm the first weeks and it is now open until 8.00 pm. We regret that overall we did not meet your expectations as a Sheraton hotel – we welcome travelers from all the world and strive to provide a superior guest experience through our products and services – including our Sheraton breakfast, tailored to meet the requirements of an international clientele. We have also noted your comments about the poor interaction you had with the bus drivers and will follow up on this with the bus contractor to ensure we provide the best possible service at each guest encounter.

We hope to see you again at the Sheraton Roma and so have the opportunity to exceed your expectations next time.

Warm regards,
Guest Experience Team

I booked 2 rooms, redeeming points over a special weekend. The hotel went far out of their way to make my experience extra special. The service we received was fantastic, the check in and check out process was seamless and the rooms were immaculately clean.

This is an old building but many of the rooms have been upgraded. I understand for some people the location is a little far out of the centre of Rome; however there is a very well organised shuttle bus during the day and also a main line Metro station literally 7 minutes walk away from the hotel which takes you straight in to the centre of Rome or to the main tourist hot spots.

As an SPG platinum guest, the recognition of my status was fantastic and access to the club lounge is an added bonus. Breakfast on the sunny terrace is a great start to the day.

There is an airport shuttle at various times during the day, I think for 10euros per person. Well worth it as it takes 30 minutes and saves you 40Euros on a taxi fare.

I would very much recommend this hotel to anyone visiting Rome. I was very impressed.

PRO's
-SPG status recognition
-Room size and cleanliness
-transport options to the centre of Rome
-Club lounge
-Service

CON's
-not in centre of Rome so will be frustrating if you expect that
-older building but renovations good.

Room Tip: upgrade to a club room, worth the money if you don't have gold or platinum status.
