“Hotel Pace Elvetia”
4 of 5 bubbles Reviewed June 4, 2007

Stayed at hotel for 3 nights. It was noisy on the front of the hotel on a Sunday but it certainly is not a motorway!! Much quieter on weekday nights. The hotel warranted its 4 stars and was better than a lot of the 3 stars I have stayed in previously. The bathroom was large and of good quality. The beds were clean and maid service was very good.

If you want to stay in the centre near all the attractions then this is an ideal location and you would have to be incredibly naive not to expect hardly any traffic noise in the centre of a major capital city, particularly Roma.

Breakfast was plentiful, the staff were helpful and made sure all the items were replenished quickly. It was typical continental breakfast but there was a good range and items were tasty.

The roof garden is a treasure and you get a fantastic view of the city from it.

We returned from this hotel on 23/5/07 after 3 night stay. This is definitely NOT a 4star hotel. We have been to Rome 4 times and have stayed in a far more impressive 3star hotels. The hotel is located in a brilliant position close to all major attractions BUT
be warned and make sure you book a room at the rear of the hotel. We went with two other couples and were all allocated rooms on the 1st Floor at the front. The noise from traffic below was incredible and went on till 1.00am and beyond. I have never slept adjacent to a motorway before but this must be as close as it gets. We survived the first night with little sleep and asked for a room change to the rear the following day. The staff were very good and re-located us to the 4th Floor at the rear. What a difference, peace and quiet for the other two nights. Our friends persevered for the other two nights, bless them! Breakfast is quite bland. Roof terrace is brilliant with tremendous views and a sunbathe if you have time. I can only think this hotel qualifies for its' fourth star because of its' location. Rooms are a little tired and in need of some TLC. I certainly won't be returning.

I stayed at Pace Helvezia hotel for 4 nights nad it was a disaster. We arrived at 9:30 PM, so our agent arranged us (our group) a dinner. It was catastrophic. First, they gave us ladagne that looked awful, but tasted okay. When the waiter took our plates he took our knife also, (that we used to eat) but he put it beside our second plate, so we can use it AGAIN (we were shocked). Then he gave everyone two slices of meat (bad quality) and after 10 minutes (we thought that our dinner ended) he started serving us potatos, the same thing happened with salad.
The next morning, we ordered cappuccino for breakfast, and the waitress was nervous, so she didn't want to give us our drink!!!!
The mini bar is also closed, and you can't open it, the beds are ready for garbage ( I think they have better beds in jails) and the elevator doesn't work. Without mentioning the loud street this is a maximun of 2 star hotel. We joked that this hotel has got 2 stars for inside and 2 stars for outside, and when you put it together is a 4 star hotel :).
P.S. I advise you to look for an another hotel

We have just returned from a marvellous weekend in Rome on its birthday weekend (21st April). It was 24/25 degrees and was simply stunning.

We booked the Pace Helvezia through a hotel search engine and read the (rather mixed) reviews of the hotel through Trip Advisor. We were a mixed party of 14 and had booked 7 rooms at 230 Euros per night.

We found the hotel, and the service from the reception staff to be excellent, and our rooms were provided promptly on arrival although we had arrived to check in at 11.30am (the hotel check in is 1.00pm). We were actually provided with an upgraded room (102) which surely must be one of the best in the hotel. It has a fantastic balcony with stunning views across to Palazzo Vict Eman. and Piazza Venezia and was immediately adjacent to the access to the roof top terrace.

The terrace as other reviewers have said, is just incredible and with views in all directions has to be one of the best hotel locations in Rome. Although there is no bar on the roof terrace the hotel are quite happy for you to take your own drinks up there (or empty your mini bar from your room!) and it really is a must do after a day of sightseeing.

All our party were happy with the hotel although the rooms on the lower floors were noisy. We had asked for, and were provided with, rooms on the back of the hotel, as we had read other reviews suggesting this.

There is clearly a problem with the plumbing as the showers do tend to run hot and cold intermittently, and if staying for several days this could become very annoying.

Finally on a not so positive note, the breakfast was very poor. When you are paying a high room rate is it too much too ask for a generous choice of breakfast ? The stated times for breakfast are 7.30 to 10.30am but at 9.30am we offered an extremely limted choice of ham, cheese and yoghurts. All pastries, croissants etc had gone and were not replenished.

However this did not detract from our overall opinion of the hotel which was very positive. We will return again one day.

I stayed at the Pace Helvezia for 4 nights including New Years Eve and New Years Day 2007. I had read the reviews before my stay so I knew what to expect. I agree with most of them. You couldn't ask for a more central location. The rooftop garden was an excellent place to sit and watch New Year's fireworks in every direction. From the rooftop you can see all the major monuments of Rome. Now for the bad part ... this was the loudest room I've ever tried to sleep in. My room was on the front of the hotel overlooking the street. The street below was unbelievably loud. Even with the window closed it was loud but when it was open it was unbearable. The room was very hot so the window had to be opened at least part of the time. So I had to "pick my poison" either the heat or the noise. Everything else was okay. The staff was pleasant, the breakfast was good, my bathroom was small but beautifully decorated and shiny clean. One of the two tiny elevators was out of service most of the time so I became aquainted with the 6 flights of stairs. Would I stay there again? Maybe ... but only because of the location. I would make sure I had a room on the back side of the hotel away from the front traffic.

As many other people have said, this hotel is no more than average. The location is good for all the main sites but Rome is pretty easy to walk around anyway and if you were planning to visit both the Colleseum and Vatican areas, a hotel somewhere near the Pantheon might be even more central.

We stayed for two nights and on the first night were kept awake by a group of very noisy American university students who didn't go to bed until 5AM. As a result we asked to be moved to a different floor and our second room was much bigger and brighter (the students also left the hotel which helped!)

Breakfast was OK, with a reasonable selection of cereals pastries, fruit, meat, cheese etc. and the roof terrace was quite pleasant at night (even in February) for a glass of wine with fantastic views over the city.

Overall, OK for the money, but we would stay somewhere else if we went to Rome again.

We stayed here during the last 4 days of our honeymoon. First the good. Good location...minutes walk to the Trevi fountain and Colosseum. The room was a triple so very spacious and clean. The staff were very nice and accomodating. They arranged for a taxi to the airport for 50 Euros. The internet is available for a small fee. The terrace is a nice feature but could do without. Now the bad stuff. The hotel is located on a very busy street so very noisy and I am a deep sleeper. The shower leaked all over the floor and the water did go very hot then very cold as I read in another review. Not a big deal but this should not happen. There are no safes in the room. The breakfast was nothing special.
