“Good location but unwelcoming”
3 of 5 bubbles Reviewed October 26, 2012

A friend and I stayed here for four nights in single rooms overlooking the road. The rooms were very cramped, but we accepted this being a traditional building in a small street. The lack of decent lighting was very annoying and meant it was almost impossible to read in the room. We both had bites on our legs from something in the room or beds. The bathroom was fine with a great shower. Breakfast was adequate but uninspiring - orange juice was not fresh and the bread was stale but there was a nice buffet of cheese, meat etc. The machine coffee was not what I would have hoped for in Rome. It was a shame not to be able to have breakfast outside - the management seemed over-keen on preserving the hotel 'image'.
In fact the hotel staff - with the exception of one lovely bar attendant - were so unhelpful we were left speechless on occasions. Examples:
1. The first night we asked for suggestions as to where to eat as we didn't know the neighbourhood yet. We were told there would be virtually nowhere open as it was Sunday and everywhere closes early. We went out and found plenty of places open nearby!
2. We asked if they could recommend a walking tour. We were told there weren't any - there may have been earlier in the summer but not now (late October). I found a company called Enjoy Rome in the next street (Via Marghera) who were fantastic and we booked on one of their tours. It seemed like the hotel staff couldn't be bothered.
Apart from the good location, not a place I would stay in again.

Room Tip: Rooms at the front have a lot of street noise

Staid at the hotel for almost a week. Had a good sleep (never heard neighbors or noise from the street), short walk to Termini metro station and Barberini street, quite close to the historical center. Friendly and helpful staff at the reception. Charming inner garden with orange trees. Not rich but sufficient breakfast (though never had as there are nice places for having breakfast near the hotel). The only thing I didn't explore was WiFi.

The hotel staff spoke good english and were very helpful. I had a single room which was small but comfortable. The price was very good compared to what you get. The Breakfasts were also very good. The hotel is just a five minute walk from the Termini Station. The neighborhood is safe. I would definitely stay here again.

I needed a hotel close to Termini Station so chose the Astoria Garden. I agree with the majority of the reviewers. The location is very convenient to Termini, not more than a 2-3 minute walk. The staff was very welcoming when I arrived and throughout my stay.

My single room was relatively large compared to similar category hotels in which I have stayed in Rome. It was clean and comfortable. The bathroom seemed newly renovated. The bed was a little firmer than I would have liked but still allowed for a good night sleep. The breakfast included a wide nice selection of food.

The only problem that I had was that the internet was down during my one night stay. The receptionist tried his best to fix it but was unsuccessful.

This 3 star hotel is located within a 5 minute walk of Termini Station in the center of Rome. Before we left for Rome I requested and received directions for walking to the hotel from the station. They were perfect. We found the hotel very easily. The people working reception were very helpful and spoke very good English. The room was clean and comfortable.

Continental breakfast was included and contained a large selection of meats, cereals, cheeses and rolls.

I can recommend this hotel and would stay here again

We walked from the Termini at 10:30 at night, dragging our luggage and felt very safe. Our rooms were small, but the showers were the best we had in Italy. The breakfast was very good, the staff was so helpful and we enjoyed sitting in the garden in the afternoon. There are restaurants nearby and when we wanted to go anywhere, it was only a couple of blocks to walk back to the Termini to catch any bus. We would definitely stay here again.

It was our first time in Rome and the staff at Astoria Garden made us feel welcome in Rome. They were very kind, friendly, and helpful. They gave us tips on how to get around the city and recommended us to restaurants and laundary service where we got discounts and great service just for being guests at Astoria Garden. Plus, every morning we were welcomed with a wonderful spread of complimentary breakfast. The room was very clean and comfortable. The location was one of the best things. It was walking distance from Termini station and a central bus stop, so getting to many of the attractions was very easy and quick. For anyone going to Rome, we would definitely recommend Astoria Garden. Thank you Astoria Garden!!!
