“Fantastic Stay!”
Reviewed November 27, 2012

My family of three (including our 5-year-old daughter) just returned from a month in Europe. We started in Rome at Hotel Nazionale and what a great start. We had the hotel arrange pick up at the airport - flawless! I had corresponded several times with Loretta asking some questions and getting some information about the area. She was not only quick to respond but her answers were detailed, helpful and courteous. Our room was beautiful. We had an amazing view, plenty of room for our daughter, clean, quiet and a lovely bathtub! The staff were top notch. We loved the dinner recommendations, their promptness and friendly demeanor. Most of all we love how they welcomed our daughter. She LOVED the staff. She actually made a picture for the bellman, shared her stickers with all of them, and would ask throughout the day when we were going back to the hotel so she could see her new friends. The location was fantastice - walking distance from EVERYTHING! The breakfast was delicious and plenty of variety. We look forward to returning to Rome mostly so we can stay at Hotel Nazionale again.
Many Many Thanks,
The Foxes,
Stephen, Amanda and Hayden

We stayed here for 3 days prior to our cruise in November 2012. Our room was beautiful and clean. The continental breakfast was wonderful and the staff was friendly and helpful. The hotel is centrally located. We were able to walk to the Coliseum, the Vatican, Trevi Fountain, etc. We look forward to returning in the future.

One year ago we stayed a bit outside the central parts of Rome and promised ourselves we'd never do that mistake again. So, this year we booked Nazionale and it couldn't be any better. A decent sized room (304) with possibility to put away the suitcases and windows towards the side alley. A large bathroom with bath/shower. A large security box and a well filled mini-bar as well. Clean and well kept. Staff was very helpful and friendly. Great breakfast with anything you could wish for. There's a locked luggage room and you'll get a receipt for your bags you put there.

Location: you're in the middle of it all! If you want to go by bus somewhere you walk 200 meters to Via del Corso or 500 meters to Corso Vittorio Emmanuele II / Area sacra.

I only have two negative things to say and those are:
1. Internet should be free. It's 2012 for crying out loud! Yes, there is 1 free hour per day (10 EUR for 24h) but it's just annoying to have to deal with that every time you want to check something.

2. The side alley can be rather busy until after midnight. And in the middle of cold nights the carabinieri guards will start their diesel jeep and run the motor all through the night (the parliament is neighbour of the hotel). Ask for a room facing the piazza instead.

I'll be back!

We spent 3 nights here in November. Before we left, I had emailed them to say we would be arriving at 8:00 am and would love an early check in. They responded that they were sold out the night before, but would do there best. We walked into the hotel at 8:00 am and they greeted us by name and had our rooms waiting. In addition, the awesome hotel clerk (one was nicer than the next-especially Patrick who went out of his way to provide great tips about the city) invited us to enjoy breakfast. The hotel rooms are slightly larger than you would expect in a large city-one of our rooms was for 3 people and it was the equivalent to what you would get in the US.
Breakfast was excellent by European standards. Great espresso, hot chocolate, nice pastries and fruits. It was in the Pantheon District which meant you can walk just about anywhere if you are in decent shape-we are all in our 50s and had no problem. We walked to the Vatican twice, the Spanish Steps, the Forum, etc.
There is an awesome gilatto bar right around the corner and you are in an exceptionally safe area because you are adjacent to the Parliment Building, so there are armed guards walking around 24/7. There were plenty of good inexpensive restaurants near by. They had an elevator, which many hotels do not. Almsost all of their staff speak English, so they can give you directions, tips, etc and they are willing to do so. Would definitely stay here again and would recommend it to my friends and family.

Room Tip: We had a room facing the parliment building which was nice, but at night the guards can talk quite a...

Stayed here in July 2012. Very nice hotel and excellent location - 10 minute walk to Spanish Steps, 5 minute walk to Pantheon - 10 minutes to Piazza Navona. Not a pensione - a much bigger hotel than your average in Rome. Good breakfast with lots of choice - cereals, warm pastries, cappuccino, fruit, croissants, etc. Staff were a little formal - but still very helpful with ideas for sightseeing, etc. Would stay here again!

Just returned from a 3 day stay at the Hotel Nazionale. As others have said, it is perfectly located, and we walked everywhere. We had a bad experience with an elevator, and the management could not have been more responsive, attentive and professional. What could have been a really bad experience was handled with excellence by them. Our (deluxe) room was spacious although I'd say it seemed a bit dingy (better lighting would have helped). I don't understand why many hotels underlight their rooms. The bathroom was marble and clean and more than adequate. The staff was attentive and the breakfast was very, very good, and the breakfast staff were smiling and polite--a very nice start to your morning of hard-core sight-seeing and shopping in Rome! I was really happy with the price we paid, as well, and that does affect the hotel choices that we make. Did I mention that after that long day in Rome there is an excellent gelateria right around the corner from the hotle?

My wife and I recently enjoyed our 4th visit to the Nazionale and, just as all of our other visits, we felt right at home. As I have mentioned in other reviews, unlike the United States, many/most of buildings in Rome are comparitively old. If you keep this in mind and enjoy the atmosphere, you will find the Nazionale a warm, traditionally Italian, convenient place to stay in the heart of old Rome.

The Nazionale is conveniently close (easy walking distance) to many of the places you will want to visit. And, maybe best of all, the most famous and best gelato shop in Rome, Giolitti's, is just around the corner. The following are directions you will want to remember: When you walk out of the Nazionale, go around the corner on your left and keep walking until you see Giolitti's on the left. You order at the register near the front door, then take your ticket to the gelato counter. Or, sit at an outside table and order there. However, if you order inside, don't sit at an outside table or they will run you off. In that case, just take your gelato back up the street to the hotel and sit a one of their outside benches. We did that often, enjoyed a Roman evening and watched people in the piazza. The moon was full the last time we did this . . . making for an absolutely beautifil setting

The Pantheon, Trevi, Spanish steps, Forum, the Colosseum, and more are all close and the hotel keeps of pad of very handy maps at the front desk. Additionally, you will find the staff quite willing to help you locate a destination, make a reservation, or call a taxi. A real treat is having lunch or dinner at the Patheon piazza or Piazza Novona just to watch people and both are a very easy walk from the Nazionale.

If you have any concerns about security, the Nazionale is the hotel for you. It is located on Piazza Montecitoria, which is also where the Parliment building is located. Your taxi will have to pass through security on the way to the hotel, so it's obviously a very safe place to stay.

Breakfast (colazione) is more than enough to get your day started . . . the rest is up to you. But, if you are looking for a nice convenient place to call home while visiting

Room Tip: Simply ask the staff member checking you in for what they believe to be the nicest room available in...
