“Good location & Good Accomodation”
4 of 5 bubbles Reviewed April 18, 2013

This is a hotel in Rome in a very good location in regards to tourist hot-spots, public transport, restaurants, general amenities and so on.
Rooms are not huge or impressive but are clean and tidy and have a safe. We faced the street and its quite loud from level 2 s consider a room facing the other side id say. The bathrooms are quite good, there are plenty of TV options and the rooms are made up daily. WiFi may be free, and works, but its very weak and slow. All the usual suspects are on offer at breakfast and its quite nice. Staff speak english and are friendly and helpful enough.

Directly out the front the 87 bus goes in one direction to metro lepanto station, the other direction it goes straight to colloseum so it is ideal.
Vatican, piazza del popolo, trevi fountain, spanish steps and more are all no more than 15 mins walk.

For the price and location its a good option.

The hotel was located in a very convenient location for us since our main point of interest was the Vatican, about 15 minutes on foot. The lobby is very small. The reception spoke English well and responded to our requests well.

Our room was very nice as the window opened out to the inner courtyard. There were good bathroom amenities and there is a safe. The beds were very narrow and quite hard. The only elevator is extremely slow such that you can actually climb up the stairs faster.

The breakfast selections were quite boring. There were no hot foods. They did allow us to linger there writing postcards past 11 AM. There is lovely courtyard seating outside which I assume gets opened up as the seasons get warmer.

Have just returned from a wonderful week in Rome. The Diplomatic Hotel was in an ideal location for us. It is very near the Vatican which we visited regularly. Close to the Vatican you will find the hop on hop off busses so after an exhausting day sight seeing you don't have too far to walk to get back to your hotel. We also walked to many other major attractions from the hotel.
The hotel is not luxurious. It is a typical small city center hotel. Small reception/lift/rooms/ensuit,
but perfectly formed and clean. We even had a small terrace with furniture and flowers. The continental breakfast was more than adequate and the coffee was delicious. There is no evening restaurant or bar facilities but honestly the hotel is surrounded with a variety of eateries. All staff were pleasent and helpful and if ever coming back to Rome (you never know, we threw a coin in the Trevi Fountain) we'd choose The Diplomatic.

The Diplomatic is a good hotel with a nice location. The Spanish Steps, Pantheon, Piazza Navona, Piazza del Popolo, the Vatican are all within walking distance with the Colosseum and Fori Imperiali a little further away.

The rooms were nice and clean, nothing too luxurious but very good basic level. The breakfast was ok. There's no restaurant in the hotel but 20 meters from the hotel on the same side of the street there's "Splendor" which is a nice Italian restaurant. Pretty new too, the menu says "dal 2012".

Great value hotel in a great central location. OK the decor may be a little dated and the rooms are not large but who is spending much time in their hotel when in Rome? Very centrally located within short walks from the Vatican, the Tiber and Colosseum/Forum etc. Also, very handy if you use the SITBusshuttle to/from the airport and get off/on at he Vatican stop. Decent breakfast included in the price.

The good:

My wife and I stayed at this hotel during the conclave and we were satisfied with the rooms. The facility is clean and and while the rooms are somewhat dated it was just what we needed. As mentioned by other reviewers, the beds was firm but comfortable. The bathrooms were nice and the showers had a nice amount of water pressure.

The not-so-good:

During our stay there were 4-5 different front desk clerks. I make it a habit of being extra courteous with people at the front desk (well, everyone one really). However, two of the clerks we encountered were unexpectedly rude. While they spoke very good English, it was almost like they had a chip on their shoulders because we didn't speak a lick of Italian. Our first night at the hotel was warm and muggy. We tried turning on the air conditioner and it didn't work. The next day I asked the front desk if we had a faulty A/C and he proceeded to tell us that the A/C is automatically shut off at 11PM and that we should try opening a window. LOL. OK, I'll let that one pass.

Another day after a LONG day of walking the city, we asked the front desk which bus would take us to the Spanish Steps (we didn't know where it was located). He gave a chuckle and sarcastically said that we should consider doing some walking while in Rome and gave us very vague directions. Whatever, I shrugged that one off too.

On the second to last day of our stay, we asked the same clerk about making arrangements with a taxi company to give us a ride to the airport in the morning. He told us that they use a special company that gives discounts to hotel guests. GREAT. We told the clerk that we needed the cab to arrive early. He said no problem. I then said we need them to arrive at 2:30 a.m. The clerk sighed and said, "Maybe you don't understand. I said NO PROBLEM".

Maybe I'm being hypersensitve but I've stayed in countless hotels and most all of them treated their guests with at least a little respect. Maybe we caught these guys on a bad day but its enough to skipping this hotel in our next trip to Rome.

P.S.: I ask the hotel to not consider responding to my review. I don't need a cookie-cutter "I'm sorry" response that you give other people who critisize your hotel. I suggest you use that time to train your front desk clerks to be more courteous to your guests.

Dear Andy P,
Thank you for taking the time to write a review. Concerning your review about your stay at the Diplomatic hotel, we really apologize for the behaviour of our staff if they have been so rude as you wrote. Usually we receive compliments for the courtesy of our reception, so for us it is very important to find out what happened to make sure it will not happen again.
Thank you

I chose this hotel Without really knowing it's location And I was surprised to find That it was the perfect spot. The price was great Although no room service But your in Rome. Breakfast was great The staff extremely helpful And very friendly And full of knowledge. Restaurant was just right around the corner And even though the coliseum Was a few kilometers away There were some gems around the corner.

I will not have a hard time Coming back
