Has a great location, being within walking distance to Spanish Steps and the river, and a straight shot to the Vatican. But the people do not make one feel welcome, nor is the food anything to write home about.

We stayed at the hotel diplomatic in Rome as part of our honeymoon. The hotel was basic but as we didn't spend much time in the hotel we didn't mind too much. Breakfast was very simple.... Choice of cereal, fruit, toast etc. the rooms were small but clean and the staff were reasonably friendly. The location is excellent as only a short walk from the Vatican in one direction and piazza navona in the other direction.

Well, this hotel was just great.
The room was a bit small but fine for your stay. Plenty of towels and toiletries etc. Staff were very polite and helpful and will answer your questions to make your stay comfortable and give you tips of what to see etc.
Breakfast is a simple continental, similar to most other hotels in Rome.
It is close to the Tiber and about 10 minute walk from the Vatican. We chose to walk the back roads to see the 'real' Rome but finding your way from Diplomatic to most sights is easy. There are a couple of food shops opposite that sell good food and a pizzeria just around the corner. The bus stops right ourside so get the No70 at $1.50 if you need to go to Termini. On our arrival, instead of getting a taxi from Termini to hotel we jumped on a sighseeing bus which stopped on a street about 200 meters away so we walked the rest of the way. Also after a busy day in Rome, with tired feet, George helped us up to the room with our bags.
If I had to find a negative it would be that the TV didn't receive BBC World news, and the WiFi would drop out ocssionally. I have given a 4stars rating as I have stayed in fancier hotels, but I wouldn't hesitate staying here again.
Oh - also the staff do apprectiate if you at least attempt a good go at speaking the local language and helped us practise a few words on them before heading out each day.
Thanks

We stayed at the hotel for 3 days. Location is great. The staff is helpful. The rooms are very clean and have everything you need. The elevator is tiny but was always working fine. Breakfast was good and served by very friendly staff. We really enjoyed our stay there, and would definitely recommend it.

Stayed here in last week-end. We had a twin room (106) next to the patio/breakfast area. Room was a great size - plenty of space and a small sofa/pull out bed, hairdryer and mini bar. Whole hotel was kept spotless. Reception staff were great - when asking for directions etc and Breakfast staff happy and efficient.
Couldn't ask for a better location - 20mins to Vatican and 15mins to Trevi, Spanish Steps (I was travelling with my 74 year old mom).
Lots of great restaurants near by which were better value than those the other side of the river.
Would definately use this hotel again.

Stayed at the hotel for a few nights and have nothing to complain about. The room I was in was small but looked nice and was clean and well maintained. Bathroom looked nice with the natural stone all around. It had a mini bar, which I used to cool the water I bought in the city. Also had a little flat screen TV which is nice but I haven't turned on. The bed was pretty hard, but that's something I have at home as well, so no problem at all, but I can imagine people not liking that.

The location is very good, only minutes walk to all the sites in Rome (except the Colosseum) with a bus stop right in front of the main entrance, which you can use if you need or want to.

The staff was very nice, from the guys at the door, who were very helpful, to the ladies that cleaned the rooms that always said 'buongiorno' when I saw them and kept the room very clean.

The only thing I thought was not that nice was breakfast. OK, I just ate that there once (the first morning) but I was not impressed. It was a buffet with very little choice but maybe I was there just at a bad time because I do see review that speak highly about breakfast, so I decided to eat in the city the other days.

Found a very nice little place right around the corner on the side of the Justice building, which has great coffee and cheep croissants and other nice stuff for breakfast, to bad I found that place only on the second to last day in Rome.

We stayed here for 5 nights on a city break. It was our first time in Rome and enjoyed our stay here. We were given a room on the 2nd floor with a small balcony. The bathroom was beautiful and kept spotless by the staff. The room had a mini-bar which we used to store our water in etc. for when we came back from hot walks around the city. The concierge/doorman was very helpful and even offered to print material for us.

My two criticisms of the hotel were that smoking was still allowed in some areas/floors, and so the stairwell smelled of smoke. Also, there was usually just one bowl of processed fruit (in syrup) at breakfast - it would have been nice to have fresh fruit available (especially during the summer time)
