“Rome from the Rooftop”
Reviewed October 19, 2013

Earlier this summer I spent (with family) 10 days on the Amalfi Coast with a dear Italian friend, who has lived on that beautiful, curving coastline for 40 years. Our friend arranged for us to stay at the Mecenate Palace because of it's proximity to Rome's Rail Terminal and it's amenities, a short, easy jaunt. We only had a few hours of daylight and were able to spend a portion of them atop of the hotel's rooftop cafe, which opened up to the vista of Santa Maria Maggiore and Rome's landscape. The hotel was perfectly located for an evening's walk to Nino's (an excellent restaurant) and to the shopping zone of premier designers of wardrobe and window eye candy. The breakfast had an array of yummy choices and a courteous desk staff called the taxi for an early morning airport pickup, which came exactly on time. The room was clean and adequate for our stay. Yes, I recommend the Mercante.

Have stayed at this Hotel several times - always a wonderful experience.
The whole Team are very professional - always willing to help and advise.
The location of the hotel is central to all the sites and venues in the City. The view from the roof top garden is stunning and of an evening its the perfect place to relax and reflect on the day and plan for the next adventure. The rooftop garden has stunning views of Mary Major.
The food is of a very high standard and the Hotel even has its own ice cream shop which provides some of the very best the City has to offer

Room Tip: Family rooms are located at the rear of the hotel - if you want a room with a vire these are located...

The Mecenate is centrally located amidst the historic monuments of Rome. Also very close to the Termini, which is Romes Rail Terminal. Our initial check in was a little disappointing. The Hotel had the wrong arrival date (even after 2 emails, which were acknowledged). The excellent staff took care of us and sent us to another hotel in the immediate area. They paid for a cab and the next morning upgraded us to a top floor room. Not with a street view, but this was fine with us because the room is much quieter being away from the street. Rome is a very noisy city with ambulances and police yowling through the streets 24/7. We ate at the restaurant and the food was fine. The free breakfast was good, just don't expect an American style breakfast. The wait staff made sure everything was perfect and was up to par for a hotel of this class. We will definitely stay at the Mecanate Palace again when we re-viste Rome. Next time tho, I will book directly through the hotel.

Room Tip: Go with the courtyard view. The hotel faces Santa Maria Maggione Plaza, but the streets are noisy a...

Stayed at this Hotel for 6 days late September. The price was right. The views from the terrace were gorgeous as you can see Santa Maria Maggiore. It took only 2 blocks to one of two Metro stops and you are able to walk to the Forum. Easy trip to the Vatican and not a bad walk to Borghese Gallery.
Our room was very nice with a good bed although noisy in the morning as it was right below the terrace and they open at 7 am for breakfast.
The food for breakfast was "blah, bland and boring" but... the dinner menu was excellent , expensive and worth the price.
Internet connection is fast and strong and their community computer allows you to print.

Room Tip: Do not take room 512 if you want to sleep late!

I choose this hotel as a "treat" for my last night after traveling in Italy for 4 weeks. I booked and prepaid through the hotels website a few months in advance. I booked the Presidential Suite which was amazing. Top floor, HUGE terrace and big rooms. A great way to end an amazing trip to Italy. My only critique on the room is to install a proper shower attachment to the wall and the wifi was a little spotty, which for the price of this room should have been spot on. I had dinner in the rooftop restaurant and the food was amazing. My only critique is on the restaurant is they didn't serve non alcoholic beer (as I don't drink alcohol) which I found odd for the caliber of this restaurant (and bar downstairs). Most other places restaurants I went to in Italy offered non alcoholic beer. I would stay again.

I had the best Roman experience, it's located in one of the best locations in Rome. Everything i needed was close by. (Architecture, transport, entertainment, piazzas, and restaurants)

The hotel is beautiful.
It has a very antique roman feeling to it, it is like entering in a time machine.
I loved my room, it was clean, comfortable, and it had a great window view.
Furthermore, the food service was excellent and the Roof lounge is just spectacular. Situated on the highest hill in Rome you get one of the best vistas.

The staff is really friendly and very helpful.
I will definitely come back.
I had an incredible experience.

This was my first visit to Rome and this hotel was an excellent place to stay. The location was great, the staff was friendly and helpful. The view from our room was beautiful and the hotel was very clean and quiet. The roof top restaurant was the best thing about the hotel,it was great for the morning breakfasts and also after a long day fighting the crowds of Rome dinner their was relaxing and the food was excellent. I ordered a spicy pasta that wasn't even on the menu and it was great. After dinner the chef came and showed my the chilies he used to make the dish. If I go back to Rome I will stay at this hotel again.

Room Tip: Choose a room with a view of the church
