Just back from this hotel and What can I say about this hotel that already hasn't been said. Location is about 5 min walk from Terminii station, near to most attractions, Colosseum is 10 min walk away as with Trevi fountain. Room was small but well laid out, breakfast each morning was Buffet, with plenty of variety and done us till evening. Staff was great especially Pietro (hope I got spelling right) any queries were dealt with immediately and with a smile. Would recommend it to anyone wanting to enjoy Rome at their leisure

I have just returned from a four night stay at the Mecenate Palace Hotel. This was booked by my partner as a surprise for my 50th birthday and we had a fabulous stay. The hotel is a nice looking building situated close to the Termini train station and the Metro. It is well located and all the main attractions are within walking distance. The Colosseum is about a 15 to 20 minute walk and you can reach the Trevi Fountain and Spanish Steps on foot. The Vatican was further away but we used the Metro which was quick and easy to use. One tip, when buying a metro ticket if you do not use the self service machines then you will need to take a ticket number from near the ticket office and your number will be called in order to go to the counter. Luckily we had a nice Canadian gentleman in front of us who old us what to do! Check in at thehotel was quick and efficient and the rooms were lovely and spotlessly clean. Towels and bedding was changed daily and the room had tea making facilities and a safe. We had a room which overlooked a small courtyard which was nice and quiet. The rooms however, were very hot! The breakfast was continental but there was plenty of choice. The hotel had a lovely rooftop terrace with a fantastic view over Rome. Breakfast was served here and this was also where evening meals were served should you wish to eat in the hotel. We used the restaurant on the first night and had the set three course meal, but found this to be quite expensive for what you got, but the quality of the food was excellent, all freshly cooked. The staff at the hotel were all very friendly and always happy to help and very efficient, however, it would have been nice if the Hotel had maybe left a complementary a bottle of wine in the room as it was a birthday treat..as we have had this at previous hotels when celebrating. But all in all we had a fantastic stay at the Mecenate Palace and would have no hesitation in recommending this hotel and would stay here again! Thank you for a fantastic stay in Rome!

Room Tip: Quit rooms will face onto the back of the hotel..onto a small courtyard.

Why you may want to choose:
- The rooms were good and clean
- It's close to the Termini Station
- Fair spread of Continental Breakfast on the Rooftop restaurant

Why you may not want to choose:
- Area near the Termini station not the best
- The Hotel is far from most attractions (long walks)

The Mecenate Palace is a very nice hotel in an old but nice building very close to the Santa Maria Maggiore Church. It is very conveniently situated, e.g. the central train station Termini is only 5 min walking distance, Metro 2 min and even the Forum takes not much more than 10 min. The rooms are kept in an old style but are clean, functional and modern enough. We stayed in room 107 which had no spectacular view (actually only to the backyard) but which can be recommended if you need a very silent one. Perhaps one of the outstanding features is the roof top restaurant where breakfast is served. From here you enjoy a magnificent view over Rome and you are actually able to see St. Peters.

Room Tip: 107 would be a very peaceful room (view to the backyard)

This hotel is in a great location with easy access to transport and convenience stores and within walking distance to the Colosseum and Forum. It was advertised as 4 star...I don't quite feel it lives up to this rating and would class it more as a 3-3 1/2. One thing I loved was the roof top patio with a bar and restaurant. A lovely place to spend a relaxing evening after a day sight-seeing. The staff were very pleasant. The little cafe right next door on the corner was our morning breakfast stop, but also does a reasonable lunch or dinner.
